If he'd have started his leadership bid talking the way he was by the time he finished it, there's every chance he could have been Labour leader. The trouble is that he only started saying what he rally thought when he saw the groundswell building behind Corbyn, by which time it was too late. If he'd have stood for the leadership when Corbyn stood down I'd have definitely voted for him. The party would likely have kept most of the members and votes it lost due to Starmer.

EU migrants were mostly young, single and commonly returned after 3/4 years experience as the standard of living in the EU is not dissimilar. African and Asian migrants more often bring dependents (as its too expensive/far to travel) and don´t generally return as the standard of living is higher in the UK. Andrew Marr made this point when he reported from the Midlands during Brexit. According to a Kings College study, British Indians majority voted for Brexit because of the perceived unfair access advantages EU citizens had.

I agree wholeheartedly. However, many are students and the government introduced increases to spouse visa thresholds so they can’t bring their relatives into the country (so much for taking back control!). Reform talk a big game like most Far right groups, but they are unwilling to challenge the inequalities in the U.K., they be,I’ve in tax breaks for big business for example, which never works. I read an interesting paper that stated that the number of EU migrants may have been underestimated and the number of non-EU migrants as overestimated, which is really interesting to me. researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/SN06077/SN06077.pdf

Andy Burnham is probably the ONLY hope we have of saving the Labour Party after the wreckage created by weakling Starmer and Shylock Reeves. It's too late for a second term sadly but this man could carry us through to 2029. Act NOW and ditch Starmer and the party could be saved. BUT time is running out fast. Another 3 months of the shambolic mess will see Labour finished forever.

Well said Andy. He is not afraid to speak his mind. In regards to the BREXIT immigration con, let's not forget that UKIP played on the unfounded claim that Turkey was poised to join the European Union and that would see 15 million people leaving Turkey for the EU over 10 years. UKIP went as far as to say that all 15 million people would be coming to the UK. They played on people's fears that 'British Culture' would be erased as a result. But let's be absolutely clear here, BREXIT was never about immigration or sovereignty. It was all about the rich being able to erode the hard fought rights that we all enjoy, the erosion of regulations and standards that keep us safe. The rich are only interested in making as much money as possible on the backs of the lower classes and they view rights, regulations and standards as a barrier to maximum profits.

He needs to be MP first. But stop blaming those who have come here outside of the EU.

The dynamics and advantage of free movement for all member countries is that you can at will ramp up or down labour as needed from a large work force across the continent. The beauty is that its dictated by the markets not by a government quota. Very little friction in movement and thus can come in many forms be it short or long term. Applying for a work visa and the high bar that has been set by the government means that most applicants are considering a permanent change to their lives. Worse is that the numbers are attempted to be set by the govermnet who as we know from recent history centraly managed economies allways work out best! Unfortunately the level of education regarding the EU was and still is very basic. The labeling of europeans in the UK by Farage et all as imigrants, the big con, was purposefull to stigmatise and create divisions. I have moved (not imigrated) and worked in several countries across Europe back and forth including the UK. I have never heard anyone I knew ever mention in conversations, that he or she imigrated from country a to country b, always moved. The same is with Americans. Ever heard of anyone imigrating from one state to the other? Yes, in Europe we have an imprefect union, but the crown jewel achievement was and is freedom of movement.

Exactly !!! Starmer is frankly poor ,but has made Labour electable .Moving forward ,Andy Burnham is the future if Labour is to get a second term .Starmer has just made too many basic errors to win the next election .

Always liked Andy Burnham and Yvett Cooper both are gritty politicians, honest and want to do a good job. For me either would be good leaders of the Labour Party and PMs. Infortunatly Andy has previously said, he's happy being the Mayor of Manchester and refused to stand as a condidate for Labour leadership. I vote Labour but the Party does Andy me. Yvett Cooper stud but was rejected as leader for Starmer I think because she is a women. Labour run scared too often and don't take chances like the Conservatives do not only in leadership but in policies or dealing with issues. Labour tend to be soft. As for Brexit and immigration: we used to send be able to send illegal immigrants back to France as part of the EU agreement and cooperation. That agreement ended with Brexit. It's Ironic don't you think we now have the Instigators of Brexit, Farage, standing on the White Hills of Dover waving his hands about whinging about the influx of illegal immigrants that he has caused. Between 2002 and 2012 EU Citizens contributed £ 2.5 billion to the British economy because they most where educated, skilled. Young, and spoke more languages than most Brits. If they couldn't speak English very well they started learning and wanted to fit in. Many came to start up businesses that was unobtainable in their own countries due to outdated Soviet laws that there countries weren't quick to get rid of. Do we think the refuges/immigrants will contribute to the British GDP anything near the amount the EU citizens did?

Andy Burnham was the object of one of my great predictions. When he stood for leader of the Labour Party I thought it was a joke This man could never be a significant politician. Other notable predictions by me: After seeing the scruffy Beatles on TV I was sure we would never hear from them again. After watching Cesc Fabregas on his Arsenal outing "I thought enjoy yourself son before you slip into obscurity"!!!

Good point, if the Tories had delayed the elections for another six months the entire house of cards ‘promises’ by different Tory departments would have fallen flat and they would have still lost, but by embarrassing even larger margins. Rwanda being one biggie 🤣
