HOWEVER….this particular coverage from the journalist shows the lack of understanding of finance. Whilst the debt amount is the same £535m, as it was 18 years ago when the Glazers took over, what this analysis doesn’t account for is the impact of inflation. In ‘Real’ terms (ie amount after allowing for inflation), the debt is much smaller as £535m was worth a lot more 18 years ago than it was today. It doesn’t justify how the Glazers have decided to financially engineer Man Utd, but this particular point on the debt needs to be explained clearly by the journalist and not just headline rates
