Whenever I feel low, stressed or sad, I come to this song and read the comments from people around the world. It's like knowing that we are not the only individuals who are suffering. Stay strong guys, one day at a time, it will all pass.

My Dad sadly ended his life when I was 15. I'm 28 now. One of my good friends sent me this link a few days ago and it's the first time I cried to a song ever. I took a 3 hour drive starting at 11pm. I had to think. This band is honestly a life changing band. That was one of the most painful grieving moments I've ever had. Thank You

"Where have you been" acoustic is my favorite. I've watched every one of Andy's live versions of that song. There are some early versions of him in small venues where the audience is distracted inside conversation and all the while he seems to be spilling out his guys in front of them. Great stuff. I also love "cope" acoustic. I Iost some interest with this "black mile to the surface" album because of the dark spirited album art...but im making my way back to check in on his acoustic sets.

We have been listening to Manchester Orchestra for 13 years, and I swear, they never cease to amaze us. Everything they release is out of this world amazing. I've never heard a band that can continue to outdo themselves like these guys. This arrangement of this song is one of my favorite songs of all time. I fully consider Andy to be the defining voice of our generation. Full of heart, full of soul. I will never be able to tell you all how much I adore your music. I have a 5 year old daughter with Down syndrome who sings your songs daily, and my 2 year old is learning them quickly! It's a family affair, loving MO over here!!! You're amazing. I don't know how you'll ever be able to top everything you've released, but your musical and lyrical genius seems to be endless. Thank you for touching my heart and soul so many times.

💕 👏 BRAVO, as always! I’m going on 70, and the 1st time I heard MO’s beautiful music was ‘The Silence’. It was the meaningful lyrics, captivating voice, instrumental background that hit me hard in my heart and soul! Since then I’ve been searching for, and playing, just about everything else they’ve performed/recorded. It was just very recently that I found THIS, and imo it’s another 👍 ‘masterpiece’. IDK WHY they aren’t more popular and well known in the US 🇺🇸, or elsewhere, but they should be! Yet with the huge # of other contemporary artists that imo don’t come anywhere even close to having MO’s talent THEY are considered to be the ‘best ever’ by SO many, it’s sad, a real shame, and hard to believe they can’t relate to THIS group! Maybe it’s bc they don’t have a heart or soul…🤔, but it’s their own loss!

Love how the camera circles, "all of this is a circle". Reminds me of (circular) arguments and hard times in relationships, and how in the end it comes down to a choice to just simply keep trying to make it work. Their songs are like tributes to the ghosts that circle us as we strive to stay together. They masterfully create deep internal strife and dialogue that accompanies trying to figure out life, and combining that with the hope/fear that ultimately decides what happens in one's life. It's a matter of choice of belief, about one's self, others, being open to having our stories open to interpretation, seeing two (or more sides) and struggling to find the truth in those shades of grey. While all of their songs are related (seem to tell different parts of the same story), this song ("I know how to speak") seems most closely related to "The Silence", to me (like opposite sides of the same coin, and if I'm not mistaken both have something to do with the lead singer reflecting on having children, potentially struggling to understand how they approach his relationship with either his wife or future kids, or even himself. "The Silence" is a more visceral experience of the pain and anguish associated with creating space in a relationship due to hurts. "I know how to speak" is sort of the decision to re-engage and acknowledging it will not be perfect, but that you sincerely desire to try and hope to be accepted in your honesty of your "baggage" and likely ongoing personal struggles in a relationship. Not sure if my interpretations are correct. Regardless, love you guys (Manchester Orchestra). It's helped me process own aspects of abuse in my past, and coming to acceptance with how that abuse has tainted my own attempts to form a family now and in the future.
