I never thought a rattan/manau bow could have the shape of a Manchu bow and still works pretty well!
Check this bow out from Lukas in Germany. Very well done. More info directly from him:

Rattan is very good bow material. I have several rattan bow. But 1 thing with this bow. The poundage decrease after 50+ shots. But when you rest it for several hours it goes back to it original poundage And in indonesia the material is in abundance..

Look like there's a new premium all natural horsebow on the market, I have a Rattan bow myself and it has the most insanely smooth draw experience there is. Looks like Lukas also knows how to make them look less like bamboo/grass and more like a premium piece of art too. You'd almost think this one was from a museum!

One of the first bows I ever made was out of rattan,a simple recurve,but it was fun. This is a beautiful little bow,well made and as always a honest review. The problem I feel today is that far to many people go for carbon fiber, bamboo cores and the fastest speeds. This is a bow you can have fun with stump shooting on a summer's evening. What archery was ment to be. Fun

You showed the details on the bow!!! YES!!! That’s what I’m talking about!! Way to go sir! That’s perfect. 👍🏼. Sometimes I’ll try to decide between bows which have similar characteristics. In the cases where I can’t decide because the bows are alike, then I’ll choose based on the aesthetics and details like the ones you showed here. Thank you!

I remember when Rattan/Manau became a thing in Germany 15 years ago. It spread like crazy among the German bow building forum Fletcher's Corner. I think that explains why Rattan bows are so popular in Germany. You see it used a lot for LARP bows. It's understandable, too, because wood was and is hard to get in Germany. Board bows aren't a thing because hardware stores don't sell suitable lumber. People also didn't have access to trees usually because you can't just go to a forest and fell one. Then Rattan comes around, and everyone got could get Rattan shipped to their doorstep for like 10 Euros per stave (making two bows). One user experimented by putting a cherry laminate onto the belly and getting great performance out of his bows. In the 170 fps range. That was amazing back then.

I have a manau rattan bow, you can bend it to the other side and then string it upside down, and leave it like that for a night to return the shape to it's original form. Man, it woud be great to have a Manchu style manau bow :D

That's a cool bow Lukas! Have you ever tried to reinforce manao with bamboo? this allows you to increase arrow speed.
@safetyflipflop
@safetyflipflop 4 жыл бұрын
Or... you just build a bamboo bow, which will increase arrow speed even more 😉 jokes aside, if you want to build a composite bow, dont use manau.

@@safetyflipflop Unwanted vibrations can quickly occur with bamboo bows. This is why the Japanese bows, for example, are asymmetrical so that the vibrations do not meet directly on the handle.

I think the package should get an extra point for all the information provided 😁 It looks beautiful. Only question, what is "mana"? What do you mean "grass"?
@gussie88bunny
@gussie88bunny 4 жыл бұрын
He's saying "manau", which is another word for rattan. It's a creeping very thick vine that grows in South East Asian jungles. It's technically a species of grass, but looks in the wild like a crazy long noodle of bamboo snaking up the side of the big jungle trees. It's solid all the way through like wood, but is very uniform like bamboo ..... It's a bit squishy too.

Depends on the overall design of the bow. In case of a Manchu bow it gives the arrow quite a kick at the end
