MandaloreGaming by the way, if you want some more hidden gems of this magical three R (Russian Racing (kinda but hard to say) Roleplaying) - there is one game series that is awesome (unless it's my nostalgia). There was game series AIM (artificial intellect, not aim), not sure if first one have an English translation, but second one have for sure and got a steam release store.steampowered.com/app/289180/AIM2_Clan_Wars/ (third game is shit, it's actually racing and it's garbage). It's about artificial intellegence that was made to test weapon systems by humans in the future. Humans left it (why - story spoilers) and artificial intelligence started their own "culture" on this planet, developing their new views on the world with free will. UPD there is a translation for the first game, there is their official forum link forum.skyriver.ru/viewforum.php?f=38 overall story of the devs is very sad, they are capable, passionate and have tools like Unreal Engine today, but they don't have resources or approval for working on the third title. And another nice RRR game is about post apocalypse store.steampowered.com/app/285500/Hard_Truck_Apocalypse__Ex_Machina/ I really have no idea why our developers were fans of vehicle roleplaying games, but I fucking loved them. And at least can say this right now about game soundtrack.

Too many references to Russian/Soviet culture to translate. Like, the ranks: "rab" (slave), "prorab" ("foreman"). When you get the "rabbox" you wear, they cite a poem about the Young Pioneers' tie. Like "Keep it dearly, for it's color is the same as that of our Banner!" I guess the inspiration came from the Kin-Dza-Dza movie (a sci-fi classics)
@cometkite4 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I can see the similarities with Kin Dza Dza. Unfortunately I think most of the references and wordplay were lost in the English translation. To make things worse the GOG version actually has two conflicting translations -- sometimes characters will refer to an item by one term but it has a different name in your inventory, or vehicle names in the store don't match the name in the description.

There is a saying in Russian and it really encapsulates the process of understanding wacky games: "Без бутылки не разберешься" - "You can't figure out without a drink". Because mpst of the game really feels like you're stoned af. Gigantic green worms with faces and hands(and little tails) tell you to go between their den-garages and deliver food and shit in which said worms(called elypods) like to swim, whilst there are more than you can think of drunk drivers who take verything as a challenge, then there are the challenges which are races in which you have to deliver some type'o'shit, and it goes on, and on, and on. This mushroom explodes, those bugs can chew through your truck(?), every mechos has his own cryptic description and the whole game has incredibly wacky color scheme. On a side note, all of the worlds in Vangers are _donut-shaped._

@ripoutyourprejudice6 жыл бұрын
Yep I remember playing the first DF games. Simple yet fun I would describe them. Had quite a mod/map-making community because the maps were literal kbs in size compared to other games at the time. The map files basically just instructions that the engine would generate the map from.
@hemangchauhan28646 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Land Warrior was quite advanced for it's time, and it stomped our then ancient PCs.
@ripoutyourprejudice6 жыл бұрын
Well I was talking about DF1&2, Land Warrior for me was a bit of a dissapointment :/ and the engine worked fine on my Pentium 2 back then, probably because it was less advanced and used 2D pngs for weapons instead of 3D ones like in the first DF games.
@hemangchauhan28646 жыл бұрын
DF2 is one of my favorites. "Quick Missions" in FPS games back in the day was such neat idea of byte sized gaming sessions. One of the most interesting things about it was the limited ammo management, meaning you needed to choose your fights. And yeah, the maps were HUGE! I played Land Warrior, but was still a kid back then, so I didn't got disappointed with stuff all that much.
@ripoutyourprejudice6 жыл бұрын
I agree so much with you on the Quick Missions aspect of DF. There's literally no game these days in the mil-sim genre that just let's you jump-in jump-out of a session these days. Possibly the last game I experienced to be like that was SWAT 4, amazing game even today with the Elite Force mod. Loved seeing the penguins doing slides in the ice maps in Delta Force 2 =)). I understand why you probably enjoyed Land Warrior much more as a kid. Like how I did with Doom 3. As a kid I loved and played Doom 1 & 2 Everyday. So when Doom 3 came out I was in fanboy mode and thought it was the best game ever. Years later I find Doom 1 & 2 to be the most enjoyable arcade shooters ever and Doom 3 to be unbearable to play because there's so much in the way of letting you having fun.

Perimeter was one of the prequel games for this made by that company? cool, I remember buying and playing it, though I was probs too young to figure out proper unit compositions and never really got far, I really dug the idea of morphing your units from type a to type b on the fly for what you need, makes for a pretty interesting concept, no clue how much that holds up still, but I remember it fondly

the parts that involve talking to the bug-human hybrids, especially the way speech was represented, gave me serious cruelty squad vibes. the art style is like something between what a child would draw and a fever dream, and its a feeling that seems to crop up every so often yet I have no idea if I should comprehend it

One overly ambitious game I loved back then but is pretty damn hard to find these days would be 'Space clash'. A older rts title that offered both a linear campaign for several factions as well as a galactic conquest mode , some banger music and interesting but sometimes strange mechanics that include diplomacy and trading, to the point of being able to buy out your enemy rather than conquer them. Submarine titans is another older rts favourite that sadly got lost as it competed against starcraft back in the day, but similarly does things in a very unique and fun way. Actually, I recommend both, especially the latter as it's more accessable and easily available, while space clash may make the more interesting game to cover on the channel.

Man I love this game, we got it on sale at a Menards of all places along with another eastern game called Earth 2140 for my father one fathersday. He played Earth 2140 a bit but my sister and I were the ones who fell in love and played the hell out of Vangers. It's just so insanely weird and deep we were obsessed and to this day if I start humming the menu music she'll start singing it at well. lol Btw yeah I was like 10 when I first played this game, I grew up to be a big fan of far out media in general. Maybe I was the right audience though cause I loved 60's music from a very early age as well. lol

I was seriously surprised that this game was related to the Perimeter games. I have been trudging through the first one for the past week now, and the only reason why I bought them was because I own an original copy of Emperor's Testament. The last thing I expected was that that sci-fi RTS would be connected with a Giger inspired racing/driving game. Then again, thinking about it, it kind of makes sense, in a way, given the story of the Perimeter games. Cheers though, for opening my eyes to this game!

I remenber this game when I was 6 or 7 years old. I got it from a CD that came from cereal box (Yea, We are talking those times).. I didn't understand english at the time (Heck, prolly didn't even know it existed) and I would boot up the game and simply drive around. I remenber being able to open a portal trough pure luck once and never being able to acomplish the same feat again on other playtroughs. I remenber this game being creepy at first though I got used to it.. Thanks for the video. I had forgotten the name of the game. I will go back and run it again now that I will be able to arrive somewhere!

If I tried to sum up the story in one sentence, it's... half-human, half-insect remnant creatures surviving in bunkers in a bizarre world while playing cargo cult to human customs and following insect instincts while understanding neither--and they hire you, a disembodied driver in a vehicle, to do stuff for them. Oh, and the money is bugs. I guess that makes it two sentences.
