I feel like you could have mentioned 2 more interesting things: a)you can beat up every trader and steal their whole inventory, they don't have it magically stashed away somewhere b)when a skill trainer teaches you, they actually describe the new or improved action you'll be doing, it's not just a +1 to a skill, they describe how the new moves work, so it feels like an actual training session
@TheMetastasia
@TheMetastasia 6 жыл бұрын
Thats the good think about Gothic. The Creator expect you to be an Asshole time to time. You can kill people out of greed and even get paid for it. Morrowind had this features two (no in the inventory but you were able to steal traders Stuff out of their Shops. Meanwhile Oblivion and Skyrim punish you for randomly killing people as they just give you the middle finger for killing people for Loot.

@@TheMetastasia I love that the immoral things you described are possible, because it puts your actions into perspective like in real life. If the game for example hadn't allowed killing people and robbing them, the act of not doing that would have been meaningless. Yes, it's very strange that polish teens seemed to love that game. I think many things come into play here. You don't need good hardware to play, which is a huge thing in Poland. Then it's cheap or even free and most importantly, the dark and depressing setting which is Slavic culture in a nutshell.

The thing is, the concept of Gothic is genuinely interesting. There's this great war against an orcish horde going on, but it's all background for why you get dropped into this situation. You're just some guy, and you never stop being just some guy, you just become a stronger, better version of yourself. You never stop being what passes for normal in this setting, never get any kind of special destiny or divine aid. I wish more fantasy games were willing to not force you to be the chosen one.
@Mendoza-yi6qk

@@URMyNewTV Well, I was sarcastic in a way that "manliness" in and of itself is so vague a descriptor that it could mean basically anything. Manly means different things to different folks, you know? Is it a dark, raspy, boomy voice? Or is it a quiet, calm, deliberate voice? Is it a voice sodden with wine and beer, where you can basically smell the alcohol, just by listening to the voice actor? Or is it a folk-tale-narrator-type voice? There's such a beautifully rich variety of male voices. Sorry, that's just stuff I think about. It's just not communicated clearly, so one can understand what makes the voice so cool. :D

One big advantage from having a smaller world map is, that you remember every place. I always remember "Oh yeah this hunter is right next to where I killed all those orcs". I couldn't say you anything like that about later Elder Scroll games, where I only vaguely remember special dungeons and cities.

Not to mention a better quest design is possible. Like how you have the quest gives actually describe the quest location and how to get there. Instead of just a boring marker and arrow pointing the way. In this game, one has to listen to the quest givers if you actually want to know the way.

Maps being smaller have nothing to do with maps being memorable or your ability to recall them. Per your example of Elder Scrolls, I can recall where most relevant NPCs, items, quests, and locations are in Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, and ESO in addition to irrelevant but noteworthy ones, and I do so almost entirely from associative memory formed from an initial playthrough. Don't conflate your own shortcomings with those of the game's. @@kopicat2429 The overwhelmingly vast majority of games confer relevant quest details through the dialogue or quest log, regardless of there being a marker or not. It's also not remotely "better" to not have them, you just happen to prefer it, there's many many reasons markers are a ubiquitous feature. Learn to differentiate between subjective preference and objective improvement.

Saving a game took a good 10 or so seconds and loading one was a bit over a minute. There was a demo released that featured the whole first starting area around the old camp and I played that through four or five times, knocking down everyone in the camp just to get more XP for that last level up. I loved this game. This is an epic classic, right up there with Morrowind, Bloodlines, Deus Ex, etc. Playing and exploring was a blast, reading and planning for a more epic play-through (min/maxxing or completionist mode) was just as rewarding (as you had to face insane challenges, but for awesome rewards), this game was fun for multiple plays. This is one of those games where you think "why aren't we getting more games with this much awesome in this day and age, how come such old games (with such limitations) can outshine so many modern creations?". I know that some games are just breakthrough brilliant and innovative, but we can be building on old successes instead of innovating new duds. Even remakes, like X-Com and MechAssault, are such a disappointment; why do they have to dumb-down a game, can't they remake a classic and just improve graphics and take advantage of advanced computing power, why do they have to mess with success and muck it up? I think this is why I look for indie games more, they are more likely to focus on gameplay & story over just graphics & style/gimmicks. I'd rather have substance over slick graphics any day.

Greetings, fellow Poles. It is the time we rise up to thoroughly and with unrelenting bias examine Mandalore's video in terms of the recently surfaced "plagiarism" issue. We shall judge the unworthy! We shall be victorious!

Thank you times a million. Even though I'm generally bollocks at gaming, I still have a great appreciation for this game and the way that it does combat. At least at the very beginning. I never really got further than that but am working on it. I love that you need to be legitimately disciplined in your swordsmanship to get anywhere. I'm glad I actually decided to take a tougher game like this for the spin.

Do dungeon siege please. Also, I appreciate that you explain how to run the game before actually reviewing it. You have to do that with dungeon siege btw.

I've always thought that Gothic was up to something with the way it was controlled and I'm glad that someone mentiones that it's more intuitive and not that clunky at all.

I actually prefer that combat style than Gothic 2

12:10 that scene was etched into my brain ever since I first played Gothic. When you said you were about to talk about bad voice acting, I had a gut feeling I was about to see this scene again and was not disappointed

I've known Gothic for a while but I've never cared much for it, until i saw your review, which singlehandedly convinced me to go and get it So, kudos for that.
