What is more concerning is the lack of regard for the mandalorians alive in the croc’s stomach that he blew up. After all, it is established canon that mandalorians can live in a monsters stomach for several years, and often can blast their way out if given enough time.

They litterally brought all of Mando's clan back from the dead, had yet another fight with a giant snake monster on tatooine, had a droid that self-destructed on top of a river of lava be perfectly fine, had mando travel all the way back to the armorer to ask for a second time if it's ok for him to take a bath in belle delphine's bath waters to be redeemed, he went to get a destroyed homicidal droid because apparently it's super important if he intends to take a proper bath, there's apparently a perfectly fine , habitable homeworld next to mandalore yet not of the mandos are smart enough to move there, and mando litteerally doesn't go to mandalore even though it's next-door, instead going to grab the mc guffin to repair the other mc guffin so he can finish the mc guffin quest of being forgiven for having removed him helmet for like 15 seconds to get scanned by a computer.

@@grayden4138 Because the Mandalorian series is capable of good acting and dialogue. Episode 7 of season 2 with Bill Burr was Andor like. Good acting, dialogue, and story. Got to say I totally agree with everything said here. I am so over Grogu now. Two seasons of green cuteness was enough for me, they should of left him with Luke and been done with it. But of course Disney needs money so marketing that green fuss ball is top of the list which was probably why we had so much of Grogu being cute in this episode. The tiny robot fixers make no sense at all. I mean, how do they get tall or long robots inside to fix? Once IG11 has his legs on he would be to long for their work space?! Oddly I was thinking the space pirates were from Pirates of the Caribbean, lol, more so when I saw the actual pirate king or whatever who reminded me of Davey Jones. On a side note .... is it ok for Mandalorians to remove their helmets to eat and drink, or do they have to stick to a liquid diet and long straws?

They go over that question in season 1. You can obviously remove your helmet to eat and drink, and Mando is actually shown doing that in season 1. You just can't remove your helmet in the presence of any sentient being. They didn't go into further detail because it's a detail that was already addressed in the series. Two of the episodes of Boba Fett were actually the first two episodes of season 3 of the Mandalorian. It was soo weird, I have no idea why they would do this, other than trying to get crossover views. The problem... well Disney missed the fact that the internet has existed for 30 years and anyone who cares just watched those two episodes and waited for season 3. This first episode feels the way it does, because it's actually episode 3 of season 3. Crossover episodes are fine given that 1)both shows are successful (not the case here) and 2)massive, major plot arcs are not changed for the non-primary show. (which they did here). If I had not paid attention, and not known about the crossover, I would have ditched this show after this episode. Is that what Disney wants? Lose fan base for one of it's only successful Star Wars shows?

It’s not episode 3… it’s the leftover glue scenes from episodes 1-2 (which became episodes 4-5 of bobf). That’s why it’s so disconnected. It could also be deleted scenes. The reason for all of this is because bobf was so terrible they felt it needed this help, meaning Rodriguez messed up bad. Or they set up Rodriguez for failure by giving him so little time. Which is likely a bigger issue caused by Pedro pascal fighting with Favreau about more face time and less helmet, etc. domino effects.

KK got the Marketing team to complain that without Grogu there won’t be any product to sell. Forcing Dave and Jhon’s hand in bringing reunightibg the two of them together much much earlier than anticipated. This also comes with the added effect of preventing the timeline from being disturbed since Ben Swolelo is Luke’s first apprentice. I hope the rumor of her departure this summer is true. She has spent too much of her life running the franchise into the ground.

Funny enough, it sounds like Favreau is trying to maintain that Grogu was Luke's first student and not Ben because he's come out in interviews saying that Grogu was with Luke for somewhere around two years between seasons. That's longer than Luke was actively training with Yoda, so if Luke could reasonably consider Yoda one of his masters, then Luke was most definitely Grogu's master.

I found this channel and continue to come here because I normally enjoy the commentary. This is the first time that I didn't. I can appreciate a difference of opinion and taste. I just had a debate with a senior citizen about the benefits of playing video games. She works at Kroger and was mocking the bagger who was telling me about her plans to play games with her boyfriend when she got off work. she had no problem watching Kojak and Mannix reruns, but she was complaining about her bagger expressing her love of gaming to yet another customer. We agreed to disagree and it was fine, but I supported the bagger and let he know it. Anywho, after watching the Film Threat hateathon about this, I watched the episode last night and enjoyed it. The nitpicks about this show are ridiculous. As a western fan, I immediately recognized the similarities between a lot of different westerns and Tatooine. While the Mandalorian draws upon different influences, the western influence is the one I'll stick with. Let's take another 30 minute show, Wanted Dean or Alive. Starring the legendary Steve McQueen. He played a similar type of character in that he's a bounty hunter. He carries a sawed off rifle called the mare's leg that looks pretty cool but you can nitpick it. Why saw off the barrel because you lose the benefits of the rifle by cutting off it's reach advantage. He also has to have a trick holster to perform a quick draw with it. That's not common for westerns. Wait, it gets better, his gun belt carries bullets too large to fit into his gun. Why, because it looks cool, that's why. You can nitpick anything if you try. This show is no different, but instead of simply enjoying it, it's more fun to attack it. It reminds me off people trying to justify not watching Star Trek DS9. instead of giving it a chance, they ran with what they heard and missed out on the best Trek of them all. If you don't like the narrative, that's fine, but if everything was perfect and made sense with this show you wouldn't have any drama now would you? Favreau and Filoni are doing the best they can to give us the best Star Wars universe show to date and instead of embracing it, let's hate on it. I do agree that Grogu should have stayed with Luke despite his upcoming failures as a teacher. I also think they should have killed all of the pirates but those are not episode or show killers. I thought it was funny having droids carry Greef's robe train. For a comedian who does sketch comedy, that site gag should have been obvious. Like I said earlier, if the characters made perfect decisions, where is the drama. This episode gave us some action in the beginning and did one obvious thing they seems to be overlooked. It's setting the table for what's to come. You have seven episodes to go and it sort of makes sense to have a reason the pirates are trying to catch and maybe kill you. It also seems to make some sense that you give Bo Katan's character a reason to continue to return other than fan service. I'll make it plainer than that. If the pirates had just shown up and tried to kill Mando, people would complain about them not being in the first two seasons. So, they had to give us a reason for them to start now. With Bo, I see a character who's going to be so desperate to get her followers back that she's willing to kill a former ally. While I thought it was an odd choice to have her sitting on the throne lounging away, what else would you prefer her to do. Please let us know how much of a better writer you are than Favreau. People want and need to be spoon fed these days and that's sad. Obviously, there are more Mandolorians than we thought. Why waste time on the what and how, you only have 8 30-40 minute episodes. I will also say again, we have already seen Mando remove his helmet the first season to eat. He just has to be alone to do it. For the sake of progress, let's assume he will shave, wash his hair and anything else he needs to do in his private time off camera. I don't know about you, but I don't recall seeing anyone on the Falcon coming out of the head, but I'm sure it has one. I will admit, I don't agree with everything on the show, but I didn't write it. Why does Batman allow the Joker to live. How did the Batphone on the TV show work? Why didn't Han pay Jabba? We accept all of that and keep it moving. How about let's be grateful the SJW haven't been allowed to take this from us and enjoy the program.

Unusual for me, but I disagree with your downer review. I enjoyed it for what it was: The first episode of a story arc. This sets up the pieces on the board for what will happen in the coming episodes. I also admired the use of practical puppetry instead of 100 percent CGI; that's a very ROTJ-esque turn. Clearly there are some limitations Jon Favreau is working under, like having Grogu back. Grogu didn't do anything in the episode other than look cute. He sells toys, so I guess Mando has to carry him around like a boat anchor shackled to his leg. So be it, though.

In fact what purpose do the Mandolorian have now they their world has been nearly incinerated, they are as they were before divided left to their own devices but now prey for the universe too, with their helmets on blinding them to anything other than what’s in front. Religion, Duty, Cashing in on past Glories of their Empire for their own benefit; nothing really else that unites them as a people. I’m hoping this is explained more during the season

@Tyler_W
@Tyler_W Жыл бұрын
I honestly didn't think it was particularly bad. They objectively bungled the whole execution of getting Grogu back with Mando (that was never going to be a permanent separation anyway when their dynamic was the core of the series in the first place), but I can cut a little bit of slack due to the context of the situation. Gina Corano's firing threw a massive wrench in the plans of the producers (made them sffectively cancel or indefinitely delay a whole series, Rangers of the New Republic, which was supposed to already be out by now). Then within that same year, Kennedy meddled in the production of Boba Fett, which forced them to pivot yet again. They had to throw something together to tie into Mando s3 last minute so the story could kind of work, but they basically sacrificed the already ruined quality of Boba Fett so they could make sure Mando season 3 and Ashoka got off the ground and stay on schedule for release. The transition from seasons 2 and 3 of The Mandalorian was an absolute train wreck forced onto them by their braindead studio heads. Making the last half of Book of Boba Fett essential viewing to understand what's even going on in the beginning of The Mandalorian season 3 was an objectively terrible idea, and I will fully grant you that because I hate that too, but I mostly chalk this up to the people making this show trying to make the best out of a bad situation that wasn't their fault in the first place. It was the fault of the studio's top executive who is simultaneously takimg undue credit for The Mandalorian's popularity while actively trying to sabotage it's success because it wasn't her idea, even though the people making it are carrying the entire franchise on their shoulders at this point. Beyond that awkward transition, I didn't actually have a lot of problem with the episode itself. It's only real "flaws" by my estimatiom are that it's doing a lot of set up for everything going forward out of forced necessity, and that they're trying to bring back IG-88 when that really doesn't appear to add anything to the story so far, at least for now until we see and learn more that hopefully justifies that decision. it makes eense why Mando would only want to work with IG-88, though, and honestly, a lot of your questions about why things are the way they are in this episode already have answers in the first two seasons. Season 1 established that that he's kind of biased against droids because of childhood trauma when a Seperatist droid army slaughtered his hometown, murdered his parents, and made him an orphan when he was a child durimg the Clone Wars, and IG-88 was the first droid he's come to trust and consider a friend. It makes perfect sense for Mando's character not to want to work with any other droid even if the request to bring him back is a bit unreasonable. As far as what they're actually setting up in the story going forward, however, I'm genuinely interested and looking forward to it. The lore of Mandalore/the Mandalorians is probably my second favorite aspect of Star Wars behind the Jedi/Sith stuff, and this season is going to be exploring a lot of that, building on themes and narratives that have been seeded throughout mostly solid Star Wars stories for years now that go back to The Clone Wars before Disney even bought Lucasfilm. As for some of the helmet related questions, that's another thing that was explained in previous seasons. It isn't that they can never take it off because obviously, as you said, they need to remove it in order to eat, drink and groom/clean themselves, which we see Mando do in season 1 btw. What they can't do is renove their helmets and show their faces to other sentient beings. That point is a major factor in what happens in both previous seasons of the show. Likewise, the whole ceremony and bathing in the waters bit isn't ridiculous either. It's fleshing out culture and portraying the value and importance they place on religious rite and ceremony. Maybe that kind of religious or ritualistic thinking just doesn't resonate with your own frame of reference, but it is actually important in what it says about these people and their cult's way of life, for good and bad. It isn't just cintrived drama. I can't blame you for probably blocking Boba Fett and Obi-wan out of your memory (because honestly, same), but whatever this episode's flaws, this was still far, far more competently made than the two aforementioned series, and from what I hear from everybody who has seen the first two episodes, the story should actually pick up in the next episode, so I'm not prepared to fall back on "boohoo Star Wars sucks because it's current year Star Wars" just yet. It didn't blow my mind, but I think this episode was competently made and perfectly adequate in doing what it needed to do in spite of the bad circumstances the studio forced it into.

I have absolutely ZERO issues with this season premiere episode. It was fun, consistent, and maintains the major feel of the show…it tips the hat to tabletop gaming. There is ALWAYS the primary story. But giving viewers/players the primary story and nothing else doesn’t allow to see the world these characters live in. It doesn’t let us see how bad days, new characters, or change within the world we’re watching can truly change our main characters. This episode was like the beginning of a D&D campaign. Where the table gets set, expectations are developed, and we’ll get to see new strings become woven into the tapestry of the story. It’s all amazing.

I agree that the fact they made BOBF essential viewing to follow the elusode was a bad thing and it made the episode a bit awkward, but a lot of his problems were things already answered in previous seasons of this show. I also agree that this was only meaningless to people who don't follow Star Wars, because this actually set up quite a bit in the time that it had because this episode holds a lot of meaning relevant to all of the Mandalorian plot lines from mostly really good Star Wars stories that go as far back as the time before the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm. He's right about the core problems that come from making BOBF essential viewing to understand this premiere, but I also think he's just factually incorrect about half of this review.

I enjoyed the episode. So, I may be too much of a fan to comment here. I will try to stick to some of the points Chato was stuck on. 1. Yes, Grogu is back. And yes, I can get on board with the idea that there is some definite market value in having him back. But, story-wise, I believe this story is genuinely about found family. A lot of Star Wars is. I think that the bond between Grogu and Din Djarin would have made his training with Luke impossible. 2. There are many clans. Din Djarin happens to belong to the Tribe. They are a fanatical semi-religious sect of the Mandalorians. That is why he has the rule of never taking off his Helmet and why he was shocked when Bo Katan and her crew casually took off theirs in Season 2. 3. I don't find a man, asking his first 'Found Family' for permission to rejoin them after breaking their rules so preposterous. The Jedi in the Legacy Universe have several characters that went a little Dark Side and came back to the light. Luke Skywalker included (Star Wars: Dark Empire). Disney has been picking and choosing what bits of the Legacy Universe it wants to be cannon again for years. 4. Din Djarin's parents were killed by Separatist Droids. As a result he does not trust any Droids in the first season. It is only when he encounters the re-programmed IG-11 that he finds a droid he can trust enough to protect Grogu. He is going to need that kind of backup if he going to go underground on Mandalore. Who knows what kind of nasty creatures are living under the surface there? 5. Bo Katan has every right to be depressed. She lost her people not once but twice to the Empire. And then the Empire, realizing they could never control the Mandalorians committed near genocide on the population. They bombed and strafed the planet for days. On Mandalorian described the planet as "Glassed". I imagine it is really an inhospitable place in the current timeline. Imagine how you would feel. The clans that survived went into hiding just to survive. On top of that some Mandalorians blame her for the Great Purge. Saying that because she did not earn the Darksaber throught single combat had brought this disaster on her people. 6. Kalevala is a nice habitable (if you like toxic desert) planet. But it is not Mandalore. Bo Katan believes that the tribes will not come together until they have reclaimed Mandalore and a leader bearing the Darksaber calls them. And right now Mandalore is not inhabitable. And Din Djarin is not that guy. So, while this first episode did not do much more that identify the pieces on the board that Din Djarin will have to deal with this season. Pirates and all. I believe that things will come together as the season goes on. This is an overarching story not a one and done, bounty of the week, show any more. - This is the way
