Thanks for talking about the mistakes. I think it is a lot easier to learn from mistakes than to learn from watching people do everything right. Of course we want everything to go right, but the real opportunity for growth is in the mistakes.

Smash beers are great. You can learn a lot about malts and hops. Munich Malt is very awsome indeed. Often instead of using pale ale malt and some cara malts to get this color one could just use munich malts. I played around with munich malts a bit. Made a smash lager with munich and tettnanger., was awesome. Tried Munich malt for an IPL. Worked also great. Was malty enough for me for an IPL. But I have to admit my local munich malt is darker than the weyermann type 2 munich malt. Vienna malt smash is also great to try. Very nice for lagers. Did also a vienna lager smash with saazer hops but dekoktion mash to get the right flavours for this style. Love Smash beers experiments!

quick question ,,when you set the pression at 2,4 bar ..do you restor the pressure before the fermentation does it on its own or you let it go
@DrHansBrewery
@DrHansBrewery 4 жыл бұрын
I put the pressure on to dial in my spunding valve. That will go down a bit as it starts to equal out in the tank between the liquid and the head space before fermentation kicks in. I dont put any more pressure on after the spunding valve has been dialed in.

Hi. Why do you ferment at that high pressure? Most people recommend around 10psi. I've only brewed with Kveik for the last year. Some awesome results in short time but didn't know u could use other yeast and ferment hot under pressure. Don't you get any of flavours? The fermentasaurus /fermzilla is the best thing that's happened to homebrew in my opinion. Never going back to buckets

Why avoid splashing during sparge, what does that avoid? I wonder if the reduced efficiency for this batch was due to cold water sparge!!
@DrHansBrewery
@DrHansBrewery 4 жыл бұрын
Try as an experiment to keep splashing to a minimum during the mash. You will se that smell of mashing will be much lower. Aka less aroma lossed. How well that translates to the finished beer is another thing g of course. But of course it also depends on the beer. For a hop driven beer maybe it dosent matter as much. Experiment with it!

Very nice color from Munich! The additional bitterness could be from the long exposure time your hops had in the wort during the No-Chill procedure which we can definitely blame on Mikael. Love that you are polite to Siri.. Also, is there a music credit that you could give for the wonderful background track. Sounds very much like a Grateful Dead inspired type of jam band. Thanks again Dr Hans.

Great video Doc I especially enjoyed the brew footage. I am surprised you did not get a higher efficiency though. The bitter I brewed on Friday went the other way and I got 93% BE and I added an extra litre of Sparge water which didn’t alter it much. I wanted a 4.2% beer and it’s over 5% on a 4kg grain bill! Not what I wanted. I have never used the no chill method and I wonder if you don’t chill it , will it effect the flavour or bitterness as the hops will be cooling with the wort? I suppose you can try and filter them out before you let it sit overnight, cooling. Great video and loved the wildlife section too.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
