It is great! I am at 4 months and I know how to write almost 550 characters, it is so easy! I hoped I'd be further along by now but I have a busy full-time job so I'm impressed with the progress mandarin blueprint has allowed me to make considering 😁

Thanks Luke for the terrific summary of many key aspects of effective language learning. I searched through lots of possible study techniques, courses and books until finally landed on Mandarin Blueprint. And I agree with Luke and Phil: it IS the most efficient and comprehensive 'blueprint' for learning Mandarin. I'm working my way through the course material while trying to keep in mind all the techniques that Luke shared in this video. I'm grateful for this summary. It's yet another good motivator.

I lived 18 years in Xinjiang Mmm only studied a little Learned what I needed mostly from listening or learning the language I needed for a specific task But I listen very well So my local accent is perfect So .. I can carry on very basic functional and social chat but go anywhere specific and I can only figure out the subject matter

Oh, I meant to say I know a lot of foreigners who learned Chinese well but didn't learn the culture For surviving and thriving in China knowing the culture is even more important than knowing the language

When you mention writing down and reviewing your motivations, I think you are touching on one facet of a method to improve self-discipline: cultivating the emotion of resolve. A Harvard-trained psychiatrist, Dr. Kanojia, discusses this in his KZbin video "Discipline Is Actually An Emotion" on his channel HealthyGamerGG.

I'm at ~B1 currently, am pretty good at understanding at native speeds, etc. But I'm in that period where the wins become less and less obvious. Some structure would definitely do me some good at this point. I've been tempted by Mandarin Blueprint (your videos are great!), but the biggest thing that keeps me away is that it seems to be a) all 簡體字 and b) mainland-focused vocabulary (mostly the same, but there are still a fair number of differences). B would be acceptable, but A seems like a waste of my time. Any plans to address this in the future? Love your content!

Yes, someday we will add traditional characters! We don't have a set plan of when this will happen, but it's definitely in the cards.

I will never understand people who stay in Asian countries for a long time, e.g. China Japan Korea, and do not learn this language... After all, countries like these are not obvious choices when it comes to living or working, the vast majority of people must be at least a little interested in those sides. I come from Europe and I know that not everyone here learns the languages of a given country when going to work, for example. However, the level of English in Europe is much higher, and the Western culture is very similar. For example, in China the culture is much more different and few people speak English. That's why I'm even more surprised by people who have been living there for a long time and don't know this language. not to mention how many advantages there are in being, for example, European, living in China and knowing this language.

The main stumbling block for me is that I can't say the number 2 in Mandarin and the R sounds. The tones are difficult. I'm wondering if I'm tone deaf. I'm a Brit 🇬🇧 with a Liverpool accent.
@MandarinBlueprint9 ай бұрын
R is one ofthe harder sounds for a native English speaker, so don't fret. You can check out this video for pronunciation of 2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ3Ee2RoqdKnq5Ysi=yupXppq5Y7i4c8nA&t=2123 Then, go to timestamp 25:48 in that video for the R pronunciation. Hope this helps!
