@@PoliticalConservative Makes perfect sense. There are single syllable characters for 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and even hundred million. Reading, writing & perhaps calculating are therefore made simple.

@Alonoda Yes and this video was about to 100 🤡🤣 the numbers ur saying are irrelevant.
@PoliticalConservative13 сағат бұрын
@Alonoda The pronunciation of a number has 0 correlation to their ability to use that number in an equation unless they're under the age of learning to read, what you said is completely irrelevant 🤣

well... after 99 you need 百,千, 万 to get to 99999. Also you need to know 零/〇 for zero to say years
@Taytanchik13 сағат бұрын
Also 两 for 200, 2000, 20000 etcetera. And 〇 will already be needed, apart from years, for the number 101.

Badmouthing an app which provides a free language resource to people like me who wouldn't afford the basics any other way, it has allowed me to try out so many languages and zero in on the ones i find my brain works best with! I know others who only do 1 language on duolingo and its more like a game in that sense but the gamifying the repetitive stuff has actually kept me coming back to it because i couldn't write it over and over with the arthritis in my hands so having thr app has felt like language learning is more accessible than ever before! Yes i don't just do the app but doing the app gave me the confidence to understand how i learn and how to go about teaching myself better, i buy 2nd hand books now and the thing I've found that's helped me improve thr most is watching shows i enjoy only in the language I'm currently studying and that has helped more than anything... But duolingo helps keep me consistent and reminds me to practice every day which in turn makes you more likely to keep studying in other ways, like sticking a podcast on! Language resources are shocking in the UK and we don't put any value in learning any other languages which is just appalling, growing up thr language you learn depends on where you live and what school you go to in Scotland (i cant say about England) so it's a post vode lottery that decides thr language for you or if you even get a regular language teacher. Learning a language always costs so much so we can't be crapping on one of the few good free resources we have 😔

There's a theory in Greece that the Aegean Sea was named that because the white foam of the waves looked like sheep. Maybe that could also explain the 'ocean' word? Sounds cool, even if it probably isn't true.

I might disagree with that, just because I consider Duolingo as a good introductory tool into a language. Yet, I finished Duolingo German course and didn't become fluent at all, though it has completely changed the perspective on how I feel the language I've never knew before. So I went on getting to know Chinese with Duolingo, and even now it doesn't sound and look like gibberish anymore. By the way, the language I write this message in is also not my native, and it took me over ten years of practice from scratch to fluent. So I would stick to the same way if learning, and Duolingo is a good starting point 👍

Duolingo used to have comprehensive grammar lessions in each course, but they either removed them completely or hid them to the point where I can't find them. Duolingo is good for learning words and syntax but it needs to be supplemented with other sources.
