I'm trying to upload my photo book interior and the proof keeps showing a white margin/bleed area that is not in my document. I set my PDF bleed area to be .125" on the exterior edges as they say to do. Any idea where the extra white space is coming from and how to change the color of it?

My book comes out tomorrow, The Lutheran Chase. I haven't seen it in real person before, so I hope they have it at my local B&N stores tomorrow, after a few pre-orders from my family and friends. An amazing accomplishment for me in the last few years. Whenever I didn't do film photography, or hockey. I finally pushed myself for me to write my debut novel, in which I've learned from Brian Russell.

I published with Barnes and Noble and they have been a pain. Set up is easier than IS, but shipment quality is terrible. I've placed 2 bulk orders of my book and each order arrived damaged. Pages curled and dirty and covers bent back. Nothing to protect the corners of the books. They sent me replacements each time but they were damaged too. I am over it with them. Way too much money spent for this.

So glad Barnes and Noble is being covered! I've been wanting to hear more about them bc I think I want to use them abd KDP in the future to publish my books. I'm stuck on the cover part. That whole pdf they give you is a joke! All of it...all of it. I am not an Amazon person but their gig left a few hairs on my head by the time I printed. B&N? I need a wig! I'm gonna look and see if you dive a bit deeper on that part- on another video. Fingers crossed. Still- great info, it just didn't scratch my itch. Thanks anyway and it was great to find you (again!) Dana Louise [THIS is Gonna Sound Weird]

Hi, Mandi. At 12:20, the pages of your book are showing on B&N. I was wondering, does page 1 appear on the right side of your book when you first open it? And then when you turn the page, page 2 appears on the left and page 3 on the right? I hope that doesn't sound like a dumb question, but I'm just making sure there isn't some funky rule that might throw things off. I checked your other video about the printed book, but you don't start with page 1.

So I'm a newbie and I'm totally confused by all of this. I hired someone to do my book cover and formatting and I also wanted to upload to Barnes & Noble press so I could get a proof without a line through it. If it's all six by nine I don't understand what would be different other than hardback dust jacket, which I don't even need I'm fine with it without a jacket. Help. All of you and Bethany's videos are very helpful but to someone whose brand brand new to all this I think some things I need a little more info on. I feel like I need self publishing for dummies 😅

One thing I don't understand. On the cover creator they state that all texts and images MUST be inside the blue dotted lines. MUST be. But when I do that then the image is not shown centered in the preview. And I need the image to be centered. So should I cross the blue dotted line next to the spine if I want the image centered? Also.. when I cross the blue dotted line next to the spine then the book looks cut off in the store, but looks centered in the preview. So I don't know what to do. I have no idea how the final look of the cover will be. Why are they complicating? When I stay inside the blue lines and check the front cover, it shows an inch of empty from the spine and only 0.25' from the edge.. what should I do if I want 0.25' all around? Should I cross the blue dotted line next to the spine then? I don't want to order a copy just to check what turned out. And no one is answering when I write them. It's about a hardcover btw. The paperback is fine.

Okay, based on what you just said ( 3:25 ), it sounds like publishing through B&N does NOT prevent you from publishing the same content through Kindle. However, I heard an author saying a while back that she encountered issues. Allegedly, she had published content on Amazon and then tried to release the same content elsewhere. I don't know the specifics and whether the other site was free or whether she had chosen the higher royalty on Amazon and if that had anything to do with it, but, allegedly, Amazon cancelled her. I've never had a problem with Kindle, but I have only published through Kindle. So, my question is, do you think it means if you use different printing places, you have to go with the lower royalty or something? Or is it against Amazon policy or something? I know I'm not being specific, but I really DO appreciate being able to publish at NO COST WHATSOEVER on Amazon and would not want to jeopardize that printing option by making a bad choice.
@MandiLynnWrites2 жыл бұрын
You only have to be exclusive to Amazon for Amazon's Kindle Unlimited program. But I believe that is just speaking of the digital version of the book, not physical. I'll try to look into it more and let you know if I find something different

Mandi, my name is Michael Mosley. I bought the 3 book series you and your friend wrote. I recently am trying to find an alternative to Amazon KDP. I have been very frustrated by the fact that the Amazon Helpline at Amazon cannot seem to understand how to help me log back into my account even though I've been writing and self publishing my books on Amazon KDP for over 15 years....Suddenly, they act like they don't know how to help me login anymore...AND GET THIS: I had my password written down in a notebook for safekeeping. I have decided to start using another platform than Amazon. I would like to know if any of the other platforms have a book cover creator built in their system like Amazon KDP does. I can draw and do artwork myself and would like to make my own book covers. Are their any other platforms that will allow me to design/make my own book cover with a photo or drawing on the cover and whatever text I want to add to the front and back of the book? Thanks Oh, by the way, I was accepted by B&N Press yesterday and it appears that they don't have a cover creator like Amazon does. If I'm wrong about that, please let me know. THANKS !
