BJU absolutely written for a classroom setting. At the school I taught at, the representative said that the curriculum was designed to not finish. In a school year, we had chapel, play rehearsals, field trips, graduation (my students helped with the kindergarten graduations) rehearsals, testing, etc. that would disrupt our days. It is a great curriculum. The videos are also great. The teachers are amazing! They thoroughly explain the concepts that are being taught.

This is the best review that I have seen on the Heritage Studies! You covered all of my questions that I’ve been trying to get answered surfing on KZbin. I am so excited to try out BJU this next school year! I was afraid when I saw that you had it in hand on IG a few weeks ago that you didn’t like it. I love how you’ve set up the printables and I agree 100%! The Epson Ecotank is such a phenomenal printer! It used hardly any ink and is so easy to refill.

We love BJU science 3 especially with videos. My daughter bonded with the teacher.lol. This yr we will be using the science and heritage studies 4. I can see our highschool, that we will be BJU all the way because they have the accreditation and graduation.

I absolutely love the Charlotte Mason way too. But after trying different CM-styled curriculums, my son’s favorite has been BJU Heritage Studies textbook. Ha! For the CM-like curriculums, he says they are just okay, but with BJU history, he begs for more and more, and BJU makes history his favorite subject. Ha! As he is only in 3rd grade, we don’t do the worksheets or tests (as it’s just too much for him). I still have him to CM narration and I had lots of living books (including chapter books) to add to his history, which he loves. We have BJU Heritage Studies 2 & 3 and most likely we’ll continue with 4 & 5. I love how it’s breaks history to highlighted summaries, which makes it easy for me to expand it however I want!

We loved BJU for 2 years, but it got to the point of "remembering all the things" my son would melt in the floor (autism) bc he couldn't remember all the dates or the people that the book covered in a single day. This year I am just going to take it slower, we went with Notgrass 50 states and I am going to add in BFBooks and alternate between the two. Again, loved BJU for 2 years, I think it is great to check the boxes and the information, just a lot for some children :) Great review!! Great for Seasons ;-)

I could totally see that with autism. It might be working against the child. I've heard great things about Notgrass' 50 States! We loved their high school books.

Yes, it's a monday through friday schedule.

For the lesson plans laid out in the teacher's manual, did you follow the schedule or did you make your own schedule? For the book recommendations in the teacher's manual, are they BJU readers or books from the library? Also I don't see the link for your printer, could you share it? Thank you!!

Thank you for this review! I really think I will move to bju history for my middle schoolers. Do you know anything about the bju science? I felt like abeka science was really boring too.

Is this something you read to him or had him do the reading separately and then used the questions in the teacher’s edition to check in and see how he was doing? We’ve used and loved Notgrass in the past because of their wide range of elementary curriculum and we have lots of littles. Our oldest with be in 5th next year and I’m shopping around. We use BJU for a few other subjects, but never heritage studies; although I’ve been tempted a few times.

You can totally do it either way. My kiddo is super independent and wanted to read it on his own, so that's how we did it.

I have 3rd and 4th grade boy's (And our first year homeschooling!) Is their history something I could combine so that I'm not teaching two separate one's?

I have a 3rd and 5th grader and they do BJU Bible, History, and Science together. I just modify some of the tests and activities to fit their age/ability level.
