Cornish pasties are so called because they're from Cornwall in the far south of England. Rather than being made of corn, they're a baked savoury pastry product. V popular in the whole UK. Fun fact: emigrants from Cornwall took them to Michigan, US, where they're still a local dish

Some confusion to clear up...Rick and Steve first met on XFM and did a show in the late 1990s, got fired and then started writing TV stuff. i think you did jump the gun on this, also there are some strange cuts, for example 42:44 cuts out mid story, theres more dialogue back there but it cuts suddenly. i recommend going back to man moth, though the pictures are a nice addition man moth seems to be more RAW and has more of the content. the point of confusion is that his episode 1 misses the first half (thats why its only 30 minutes, and ricky references telling a story about his 'bullshit' t-shirt earlier in the show despite you not hearing it) but from that point on manmoth is the complete collection unedited from start to finish (with songs removed obviously)

The thing about the baguette fact in Upper Crust; I remember there was a sandwich shop, coffee shop or something, perhaps it was Upper Crust, at Waterloo station. Twenty years ago, I used to visit it quite often when I was passing through the station or waiting for someone. They indeed had framed posters on the walls with "facts" about the kind of things they offered, always silly. Very much for entertainment, for a joke. We all know Karl does not know the difference. If it's printed, it's true. I'm pretty sure that's what he saw.

Proper Cornish pasties are pretty big (I lived in Cornwall for a few years) They are a filling meal. Whereas Empanadas (The ones I've tried in Spain) tend to be smaller. It is true that the crimping was to hold the pasty in the mines where the miners would have dirty hands, and they did also use to compartmentalize the pasty to have savory in one half and a sweet desert like apple in the other half. Finally whereas you can pretty much put anything in an empanada, a Cornish pasty has to be made using strict ingredients, They can only contain beef, potato, Swede (rutabaga), onion, salt and pepper. No other meat, no other vegetables, no other seasonings allowed.

The story goes that Ricky and Steve had a radio show already, went away to do the Office, became famous, and came back to do 3 more seasons for whatever reason. Maybe they had to fulfill a contract. It was on their return to XFM that they were given a manc to handle the production of the show.
@benwinter5295 Жыл бұрын
I believe the first time round Ricky was 'Head of Communication' or something. He was then sacked (I imagine for being terrible; if you've heard the pre-Karl shows it's understandable lol) After The Office s1 was released they went back to XFM as a favour to the station's owner, as by that time the station was losing popularity after selling out to a big commercial station, and Ricky and Steve were becoming more well known from TV. Don't know how true it is, but it makes sense. edit: It says 'voluntary redundancy'... which tells me that even Ricky and Steve agreed that they themselves were terrible lol

It is lovely to have you back. I’m glad you took the time away to build up energy again. Listening to this episode, one is reminded again that they just can’t say, ‘no way’ to Karl’s stories; you have to say, ‘some way’”. About the ‘pasty’ name, ‘pasty’ came into English from Old French and Latin for dough/pastry. That explains why this is the word used in the UK. Finally, well done to the person who added pictures for context. I am sure overseas audiences, as well as some of the UK’s millennialls and most Generation Z’ers, found it useful.

TBH I think how that's you're gonna get around the fact that all the XFM shows aren't animated and still make it entertaining without worrying about "nothing happening" as far as animation goes. Most of the time he's right, but he embellishes the facts a lot because he rarely reads beyond the headline and he's got an active imagination. One of the things I found myself wondering is whether a lot of the Xfm stuff might go over Mandy's head a little bit. Not because of anything wrong with her I should add, but because it's full of reference to British people, music, things, some of which have become irrelevant enough that even many Brits won't know what they're talking about. It'll be hard to guess a lot of the Rockbusters answers when that stage is reached as many of them are not that well known outside the UK and Ireland. There's still plenty of hilarity to be enjoyed though and it gets better as Karl becomes more involved.

They are a good marker for weight goals, as if you know you are usually 9 stone, if you get to 10 stone you know it's time to cut back. Or if we want to lose weight we usually do it to the nearest stone "I wanna get down to 11 stone". It's just a cultural thing, when you grow up with it you learn to eyeball people's weight to the nearest stone through experience. There's a Red Dwarf scene that covered the Wilma / Betty debate, it seemed to be a thing in the 70s / 80s - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHzcaXawjZmHe7csi=xbyMx7CNoiAw7feD

A stone is 14 pounds. The imperial system is much older than the metric system, that's why it seems random. No one really designed it, it just developed over time.

For those of us who don't have your contact, like Rusty Dog and Adam do, if we have something (like a similar of this video) to send you, how do we do send it to you? Is there a particular email? Is that how THEY sent you the videos they had? I'm SO glad that you're back, you're healthy again, you're happy, and you're not in pain, you wonderful human of earth. Super beautiful, super amazing Mandy. Oh, that's cool! Now being invited to radio show for your stage show. Now you're famous, like you said you feel. Big time, for sure. Congrats on the invite. It's in Spanish and I only speak English, but I would love if you all film the show and sell copies of it on DVD. More money for the three of you (you and your brothers). Plus, that would be entertaining, as well as nice to see. Is it about a one hour show that you and your brothers do on stage? Do you rent the theater? Who takes care of the ticket sales and marketing for you three? A lot of questions, but I'm curious. My city has a "Playhouse Square," which is basically my city's Broadway. Five theaters at Playhouse Square, all next to each other. Basically for shows like what you three do. So if the three of you move to where I am, your show can just as easily move with you. The only thing would be the need to translate everything into English. I have a 6' 5" uncle, and I met 7 foot Brad Sellers (former NBA basketball player, and mayor of a Cleveland area suburb I lived in at the time), so my 5' 11" self can imagine, with Stephen's height. I wish I were 6' 2" or so, but I'm just glad I'm not shorter than I am. Napoleon: Baguette ....... Random people walking down the street: Is that Jonah Falcon? ..... 😂..... Imagine if that pocket was a sock. 😂(From yesterday) ....... They used the pocket. More socks for me to use. (They're well needed). (Tink the glass) So they were each other's cupbearer.

We measure body weight in stone + pounds, so you’d be like I’m 13 stone 7lbs. There’s 14 pounds in a stone

cornish pasties aren't made of corn, they're cornish from cornwall in the south west of england where steve's voice is from, and they're kind of like empadas but more like masa de hojaldre bien seca

All you need to remember is there's 14lbs in a stone.. so for example 10 stone would be 140lbs

Mandy, a stone is an imperial measurement, 14lbs. So if you're 140lbs, we would usually say 10 stone. For some reason, despite being completely married to the Imperial system, Americans just stopped using stone at some point. But it's just a kind of shorthand for pounds. Yes, we often say things like 9½ stone, and yes, if you're dieting you might set a target as something like "I want to get to 9 stone", rather than "I want to get to 126lbs". Obviously an American would likely round to 130lbs in that case, or more likely, 200lbs (present company excepted of course). 😅 I hope that makes it a little clearer. 😊

Yes, it does help, thank you. But pounds make no sense either 😅😅🤣

@@MandyCaneLane 1kg = 2.2 pounds 1 pound = 16 ounces (about 1/2 kilo) 1 stone = 14 pounds (about 6.3 kilos) 1 hundredweight = 8 stone (about 50 kilos) 1 ton = 20 hundredweight (about a metric tonne) easy ;)

A stone equals what we call 14lbs, the lbs stands for pounds. So 9 stone 13 means 9 stone 13lbs. 1lbs short of 14 stone. A lbs is equal to 0.45kg.
