Maned wolf in Brazil

For decades, it has been a tradition that maned wolves go the Sanctuary do Caraca.
Despite their almost nightly presence, these animals are still extemely shy.
Sitting on the best closest, was the director. He supervised the situation to ensure any visitor was sitting down, quiet and did not move if the wolf was present.
We rented a car and stayed at the monastery four nights. I would recommend staying as long as you can if you enjoy hiking, nature and wildlife photography.
This nature reserve is an absolutely excellent place to support with tourism.

Here in Brazil it is called "Lobo Guará", which means "red wolf", in an admixture of Portuguese and Indigenous language. There is a bird called Guará, totally red, as well as the plant Guaraná, with a red fruit that contains caffeine.

A vet in training here. Don't feed your pets cooked bones. Thermally processed bones gain density and harden, making them splinter when animals eat them. Over 40% of all emmergency cases in our clinic are bowel hemorrhages aka. GI bleeding and obstructions as well as a very, very large number of fatal cases as a result of choking and it's all because the owner decided it was a good idea to give his dog or cat cooked chicken leftovers, including bones. If you're going to give your dog bones, give your dog raw bones, not thermally processed and not dried bones. In 2020, our clinic had just over 430 such cases, out of which were 28 dead dogs and 4 dead cats. Also sorry for terrible English.

This old man on the left was the principal of my school for many years. He is a priest and a biologist, and he knows literally everything about the maned wolf. This place is a kind of a monastery in Brazil where every night he calls the maned wolf to eat this meat tray. In Brazil we call the maned wolf as Lobo Guará, and this man built a fame among all the students of my school with his well-known epic maned wolf call: "come, Guará, come...". And It always worked - the guará always came after hearing the sound of his voice. Seriously, this man is the Guará caller.

Já fui no Caraça e me decepcionei pelo que exploram os lobos para atrair turistas e ganhar muito $$$ ....oferecer restos de ossos de galinha do jantar do restaurante achei um absurdo..... até porquê ossos de galinha depois de fritos não são recomendados nem para cães.......qual seria o custo de darem pedaços de frango ou carne crua??? Absurdo... lotado o lugar , os quartos.... já ampliaram várias vezes... fiquei até na sede da fazenda mais distante da igreja pq estava lotado , ganham muito dinheiro e tratam mal e condicionam a dependência da alimentação artificial

That took me by surprise. My late brother lived in Brazil in the 80s and 90s and I remember him telling me once that he stayed in a monestery that fed wild wolves. He lived in Minas Gerais - mostly Belo Horizonte - so that was obviously the place he told me about. He said he'll take me there one day but unfortunately he died of a heart attack in 2001 at the age of 49 so we never did make it. I was very close to him and it was nice to see that place where he once stayed. Thankyou.
