Kindle Scribe Case Review: Absurdly Expensive (but worth it).

It looks like it's official! The Kindle Oasis has been discontinued in the United States and is no longer for sale in the U.S. market. No word yet if a new updated model will drop in 2024. So, as of now, the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition is the most high-end Kindle available. (Unless you count the Scribe, even though it lacks water resistance and wireless charging that the Paperwhite offers?)

Was tempted to get one after listening to your take on it, but then I saw it adds about 200g to the weight of the Scribe (also when holding and reading), making my current felt sleeve look like the better option, especially since the sleeve makes a nice pad to place the Scribe on when taking notes. Propping up is possible with a lightweight flipstand I also use for my iPad and iPhone, so it’s always with me in my backpack, plus I keep a flipstand at hand in every important room of the house. Beyond the weight and bulk factors, though, I also read several reviews complaining about the edges fraying and coming unglued. Several reviewers also included photos to illustrate this. I was hoping Amazon had maybe improved the design by now, since the same kind of reviews were showing up half a year ago (scaring me off from buying a cover at the time). It seems the same poor-quality edge bonding is happening, so I‘ll pass. Wouldn‘t want to buy such a case even for €20 if it falls apart on me after a bit of use.

If you're in the US, I suggest looking at the Used options. I was able to get the leather case for $8 and a fabric one for $15. Both were listed as "like new" and the only damage for both were for the packaging and not the cases themselves.

your last criticism is one of the best things about the case imo. i think this was definitely an intentional design choice for quickly detaching the Scribe to read as the sides of the case can feel sharp against the hand during long sessions. with the Scribe's screen margins minimised and the line spacing reduced I think the Scribe far outperforms any of Amazon's smaller devices as a dedicated reader and is very well balanced in the hand. the landscape orientation with two columns is also really nice. i just wish Amazon devices stored the orientation as a flag in each book being read, as I like to switch between portrait and landscape depending on the type of book i'm reading.

i just watched one of your video recommendations recently on buying a kindle. Honestly it would have been so tough for me to make a decision without your videos. I read manga daily when im travelling on my phone. But there is alot of downtime every week waiting for new chapters to release and i started researching on kindles. Ive tried bringing books with my while im travelling but i found it quite uncomfortable to read a book while on public transport. Thankfully kindles exist. And after watching a bunch of your videos, ive gotten a kindle paperwhite. keep doing what youre doing bro its really helpful. Especially videos where you break down every single feature and the differences between kindles.

I would not recommend it. It's not as good as people make it out to be. The two layers that make up the bottom two corners started coming apart and I had to glue them together. It's worth it only if you are fully prepared to buy another one after 2 years.

I don't really get the appeal of the Kindle scribe as someone who has an iPad. I use the kindle to read and iPad for notetaking. I only read for leisure so I don't need to constantly take notes when reading. If you need it for work then ofc, it would be useful.

Love this. I would love to hear a review from you about other cases for the Kindle scribe. Also, also, I’m sure there’s something in the works but I’d love to hear a review about the remarkable tablet.

It is not only you... I can't figure it out how to use the case properly to stand the kindle...so every time I use it I have to look at the sticker... it is annoying.

The magnetic nature of the case would be a big turnoff for me. That looks *really* insecure, and if you dropped the Kindle it doesn't seem like the case would be much help.

There’s either something wrong with his case or he’s not aligning the grooves. It’s not like that at all. You literally have to pry it off. Look at other reviews. Everyone loves the way they did it including myself because it’s both secure and easily removable when I want to hold it.

The other downside he mentioned is also not a downside. I read the instructions and never made the curl mistake once. He is right about it being a great case. The downsides I would have mentioned is increase in weight and no hand strap, but they are nitpicks.

I’ve gotten all of my Amazon cases from the Amazon warehouse. They’re usually used but they’ve all been brand new, pretty much and very low cost. My fabric cases for my Basic, PW and Oasis ranged from $4 to $6 for each one.

Ended up buying the Leather version in "Used: Like New" condition on Amazon Warehouse, and Love It. It Feels so much better than any of the cases that use the typical plastic housing for it to snap in to. I would've gotten the fabric case, but it was more expensive...even used. But, am very happy with the "leather" version. I probably won't use the loop very much to hold the pen...but, it is nice as a "handle" when manipulating the flap.

Individual pricing is worse in Canada, due to our weak dollar. But it wasn't bad at all with Black Friday and Essentials bundle discounts. Best. of all, they seem to have made running production changes. I just bought a second one (blue denim), and now they have rolled, heat-sealed edges. Feels more comfortable, and the edges won't fray. The top-hinge design is compact, and brilliant for left-handed use.
