Klaus Voormann is not only a successful musician, but also a very talented graphic artist. He has been a close friend of The Beatles since their early days in Hamburg. Among his works is the design of the Revolver album cover. He is also the real "son-of-a-gun" in You're So Vain; Carly Simon was referring to Klaus and his impressive bass intro in the song.

This is nice to see in its entirety - I have a clip of this video from the 1966 episode of The Rock N Roll Years broadcast on BBC1 back in the 1980s... never seen the whole piece before so thankyou!

I think that, for success in a wide variety of pop music styles, it's hard to go past MM as the best UK pop group of the 1960s

The Manfreds would come an hear my band at the Gala, Ballroom in Norwich all those years ago. Paul Jones parents lived nearby. Wonderful times, I turned down an offer from The Sidney Bron Agency I must have been mad.

Strange how MM were able to effortlessly deliver the songs of Bob Dylan at the time without complaint and yet when the Hollies did their Album of Dylan Cover they were hammered by the record buying public and Music Press...

I’ve heard that Hollies album and it’s material pale in comparison to Manfred Manns.

Becaude Dylan himself was a fan of Manfred Mann's renditions of his songs

Mike Dabo could be Paul Jones twin brother, they look and sound alike Manfred got the perfect replacement
@rossdelain16458 ай бұрын
Yes Mike looked like a replacement for Paul, but in terms of how MM sounded the difference was like day and night. D'Abo was suited to the sound of Folk/Singer-songwriter with the best examples Keith West and Tim Buckley. Paul Jones was more black R&B/Blues with the best examples being Eric Burdon and Van Morrison.

such an important hit for manfred mann......their first single since paul jones left......a fairly plodding version of the bob dylan song, without dylan`s urgent middle section...some of the manns earlier work sounded livelier than this...still it made the charts and kept the manfred mann name going.

@jllackey24644 жыл бұрын
Richard Luetchford huh?
@TheGateway374 жыл бұрын
@@luetchford07 It's an eight string bass guitar for playing chords on. Jack Bruce in 1966 in Cream used the same type of guitar for a heavier sound.
