Manfrotto 561B HDV-1 Monopod Preview

Before heading out to CES 2013 I was on a quest to find tools that would lessen my load. I learned from CES last year that there is a TON I mean a TON of walking that you have to do. Because of this I did not want to use a DSLR for video like my D4 and have to set up a mono pod each and every segment.
I knew this year since I was going to be filming with a smaller camera I would't need a huge tripod. That is where the Manfroto 561B HDV-1 Monopod comes into play. This monopod has a fluid video head and a way to stand on its on with a very clever design.
This Monopod is sure to be lighter and easier to maneuver around CES and the 135K people that were there.

This is an excellent tripod for video. I rented one for a wedding I did video for (one time thing for me) and it performed amazingly well. No glitches, easy to use, and great results. Hope you like it Jared!

I love this monopod. It's a brilliant little piece of kit. More than worth the money for rug-and-gun video shooters.

Also, all this stuff runs together, photo and video is one these days and I plan on covering a lot more of all of it. Its all photography based. Also saying something like "its disappointing" that you come here for photography stuff and your finding me reviewing a monopod for stills and video is pretty annoying to me.

I have one of these, worth every penny, I've had it for nearly 2 years and I can't imagine a video shoot without it. I use my 7D as my walk around camera on here and then I do a fixed shot via a tripod rig and a 60D

Hi, your statement is not correct in the least. I have not been covering a lot of video related things at all. The majority of what I have done is still photography and its always been that way. I am not sure why you think that im covering more video oriented things when the last 15 or more videos are photography reviews, critiques and what not.

Manfrotto's 562B-1 allows for more weight (17 lbs). I love this device but I got the other option because I wanted something for more weight. This won't hold most of my heavy lenses and my Canon 60D too.

I can't believe it's that stable. How much weight can it hold? I'm afraid the camera would fall if it's touched by someone's elbow. Too risky.

Stability doesn’t mean that thing rocking from side to to side.... when u put a camera on that it will fall over.... the base is not stable.... keep it 💯

There is a problem with your preview. I own this monopod and I also have a quick-release attached to the plate to quickly switch from monopod to tripod when necessary. Balancing a camera on its own on the monopod is risky. It is not very stable. A slight breeze or vibration can tip the monopod over. The weight of a camera makes it top heavy. It is almost impossible to SAFELY balance a camera with a heavy telephoto lens on this monopod. Despite this, I have no regrets owning it.
