What efforts did he put in? Did he call her? Text her? Just show up to where she lives? They go to the same college; he could see her at any time, and given her own internal monologues, she would have been overjoyed to have him do so. No, this was a story about two people who grew apart because neither put in the effort to remain in contact, but all of the blame for that all of the expected change going onto one person. Hell, she quit modeling for him? That's a lucrative career, especially for a young person, and he just let her do it? How incredibly selfish and self-centered. At not point did he even consider that he was part of the problem, or offer to change himself at all. If you ask me, she would have had ever right to leave him behind. He's lucky -- damn lucky -- that she's so attached to him.

@@Josh-99 I would assume they had to cut to the chase to reduce the length of the story, which is why we didn't hear more details about his efforts. You basically have to take it as: "he tried to keep in contact with her, but she kept prioritizing other matters before him". It's more accurate to say he was mentally defeated by this constant circumstance, which is actually a realistic thing in human relationships, believe it or not.

@@Josh-99Somethings that you mention that Himeru could have done to try to save the friendship may have already happen but was off-screen. You got to remember that this is a one shot and some scenes that should be in the episode, happen off-screen. And before you say anything about Himeru not putting in effort. In the video, the MMC study to be in the same university as Ren. This means that Himeru is willing to put in the effort to be with Ren. However, the story is presented in a way that Ren is the one that cause the problem. I do not have a problem with Ren becoming a model and gaining new friends. The issue is that Ren starts distancing herself from Himeru. Both characters notice the distance and the way how the dialogue is going, Himeru was the only one trying to do something while Ren continue on doing her own thing. It is even mention at the 17:17 mark of the video. Then Ren goes into detail on the fact that she become a model for Himeru and wanted to be his equal. She even notice the distance that happen between the two and seemly give-up at 18:17. And when she ask what she should have done, the MMC call her out and say why she couldn’t be honest with herself at 18:35. Then from 18:41 to 19:01, Himeru go off and mention that he confuse as to why she start avoiding him and most people would think that she is cutting ties with him. The fact that at 19:03 and onward, that she realize what she did, apologize and decide to quit being a model points that Ren realize that is the one at fault in the story. The story is going out of it way to show that Ren is the one ultimately cause the issue in the story. I am glad that Himeru didn’t take Ren back immediately and wants to clear his thought first before going back to being childhood friends.

How about we get together and [go out to eat/cook dinner together/play some D&D/etc.]." I make an effort, because a friendship takes effort from BOTH SIDES. I don't just sit around wallowing in anger that they haven't reached out to me recently. Should they take the time to call me? Sure. Absolutely. No doubt. But they didn't so I do. Because that's what friendship is. He made no effort. There's no talk of him reaching out, and there's even a scene (where she's being asked to join the Tennis team) where he walks RIGHT PAST HER, head down, clearly ignoring her. That's a situation where a good friend would have stopped, smiled, and said "Hey! Man, it's been forever. I see you're busy right now, but can we catch up this weekend?" No, he was angry and jealous that her life improved while his stayed the same. He complains about it ALL VIDEO, even from the very first sentence in the opening scene. Then he gaslit her, making it seem like everything was her fault. SHE got a new modeling job. SHE got new friends. SHE didn't make any effort to contact him. What the hell was HE doing the whole time? Does he not have a phone? Do they not go to the same school? Does he not know where she lives? The point is that they are BOTH at fault, but he pushes EVERYTHING onto her. His life treads water while hers improves and he can't deal with that. He's lucky -- DAMN LUCKY -- that she loves him so much. Here's to hoping that he learns that and starts becoming an active part of their relationship instead of expecting her to do all of the emotional heavy lifting.

This story honestly piqued my interest. So the FMC changed herself so she would become worthy of the MC, and made him go to the same university so they would be together. But as she became more popular, she unintentionally distanced herself from the MC. And I honestly can't blame the MC for being sad about it. I liked the way this story went, until the end that is. I get that she changed her look to get him to see her as a woman, and that got other people's attention as well because she really was pretty. But, she still isn't listening to him. Senpuji is just a friend. Yes, their relationship could possibly blossom into romance, but I don't think Senpuji is interested in romance, she just needs someone to talk to who isn't trying to get into her britches. Ren needs to grow up. The MC was right when he guessed that romance was not what Ren needs right now. But she's so scared of losing him that she is going from one extreme to the other. Maybe if she settles down a bit and becomes friends with Senpuji, and, doesn't quit her modeling career, she might gain enough self confidence to not be so needy.
