Man, the nostalgia. This was SHOCKING to me when I was a teenager, the ultra-fast flashes of intensely gorey ultra-violence mixed with explicit sex and nudity, all projected on a canvas of otherworldly insanity and constant explosive action. AKIRA, Vampire Hunter D, Urotsukidoji, Wicked City, The Guyver: Bio-Booster Armour, Bubblegum Crisis, Roujin Z, Genocyber, AD Police, Cyber City OEDO 808, Mad Bull 34, Crying Freeman, 3x3 Eyes, Demon City Shinjuku, Wings of Honneamise: Royal Space Force, Dominion Tank Police, Battle Angel Alita, Tokyo Babylon, Fist of the North Star and even more than I couldn't even recognise. From anime's silver age (before the golden age of the post-Evangelion boom), when it was still a niche cult property that was often dismissed as being all tentacle porn, but the minority who knew of it felt like they had secret knowledge that the masses were ignorant of. The memories are too much.

Actually "Manga" is the same as the word "Cartoon" - it's what we use to describe a comic book, but also an animation, whilst "Anime" is more commonly used to refer to animation. In the UK we usually use "Manga" to refer to the dark, cyberpunk stuff which appeared in the early 90s, and "Anime" to refer to the lighter stuff which the kids love.

My 15th Birthday i managed to buy copies of Fist Of The North Star and Urotsukidoji on VHS from Virgin Megastore. This was pre internet so i had no idea what they were about but they looked cool from the covers and having seen Akira well they had to be good didn't they? There's life changing days and that was one of them. Total and utter shock after watching Urotsukidoji and that was the heavily censored UK version as well. Thank fuck my parents where out when i watched them back to back that evening!!!. When i went into school on the Monday people couldn't believe what i was telling them could be in a cartoon.

This song is actually called Refuse/Resist. Sepultura were very good indeed. Saw them play in Melbourne at a guess 8 or so years ago in a basement style bar, the guitarist was the only original member left but man did they put on a show.

@CLDavi1983 shame we had to lose the more detailed/sketched art work since today's anime is very... standardised and digital. Also while I am more than happy to cast aside the atrocious dubbing we got back then... I preferred the metal music we got in those releases.

This is a promotional video for christs sake why would they disable the audio. Sepultura would have been paid good money to have their song attached to this promotion. Such were the times. Anime during that point was mainly "fifteened" versions of Japanese animation that had gallons of over the top sex and violence. Thankfully we live in a more refined, faithful and sane world and the Anime we get is far superior to the messes they gave us then.
