Where the tropical ocean meets the sea, a peculiar kind of plant thrives in shallow, salty water. These mangrove plants are incredibly important for shoreline protection and baby fish habitats. Jonathan investigates life in mangroves by visiting both Caribbean and Pacific mangroves.
JONATHAN BIRD'S BLUE WORLD is an Emmy Award-winning underwater science/adventure program.

This is perhaps one of the best explanations I have ever seen in 23 years ! In my school we used to learn these statements but were never told the reason behind . Example 1 - Mangroves act as a buffer zone between Ocean and Shore . Why do they act as Buffer Zone was never explained . Today I learnt that the roots hold the shoreline together preventing erosion , thereby attenuating the tides . Example 2 - They act as a home for Invertebrates . But why ? I got the answer today . The vast mesh of roots protect the small fish and invertebrates from predators . They also provide them the food which is flown out to ocean during receding tide . Excellent Videography . I would just like Mr. Jonathan Bird to notice this comment of mine and feel good how his videos have been affecting lives of many . Love from India .

I think only the Red Mangrove has seeds that develop a stem while on the plant. Some other species of mangroves (different genera) grow slightly more inland.

Hello Jonathan, I don't know if you remember me, but a couple years ago I told you I wanted to get scuba certified. But, to get to the point... Don't lemon sharks live in mangroves? And you should totally do a video on coral reefs, like the great barrier reef! And, don't listen to the haters, they are just jealous that you're smart and they aren't! 😊😉

Jonathan, do you know about the Machineel Tree? Looks like mangrove and gets into the mix, so I've read. TOUCHING the tree is dangerous, or sitting beneath...definitely eating any part of the tree is pretty much a horrible death. Just FYI?

Am I tripping or were those platies and swordtails swimming by the mangroves
@blubahub
@blubahub 6 жыл бұрын
Close! They are mollies, if I'm right the sailfin molly. Mollyfish are like elongated platies. Mollies, being part of the same family and livebearing, can crossbreed with platies, swordtails, and in rare cases, guppies and mosquitofish.
