There was a Reddit comment made about how it's also the name of a Scottish hero of legend with a story almost identical to FECamus, as opposed to a French philosopher he has basically nothing in common with. I'm sticking with Cam-miss, since ScotCamus is much more likely to be the namesake than FrenchCamus.

That line of Camus saying he has someone else back home always makes me tear up on the inside. A man that only uses his owm loyalty but the same thing betrays him being stuck between two lovers and Nations. Him choosing to stay with Tatiana but go back to Arcanaia shows the true "that zone" that the old games created. He isnt able to choose one sidr and when he tries, it never fully works out. Damm dude imagine living with the guilt of everything Camus through your entire life. I can't even think of it. Characters like Camus remind me why I love the Fire Emblsm series's story telling.

actually, tatiana says that she found camus washed up on the shores and took care of him. she says this at some point in shadows of valentia, probably in a support conversation. in-game cannon lore saying that camus did in fact wash up on a beach. maybe mila had some plans for him, divine intervetion and dragons.

Not sure if this video was made before or after the recent translations of the Valentia Memorial book, but that has some interesting facts pertaining to Camus that are worth noting here as an addendum - notably, that the Gradivus found in Valentia was actually found on Camus' body when he washed up on shore, meaning it's the same one as the one from Archanea, and was returned there by the Whitewings when they went back to Macedon. This means that it's likely canon that the ending of the chapter where Camus is fought in Shadow Dragon is the one where the fort is seized before Camus is defeated, where both Camus and the Gradivus disappear. This would go some way to explaining how he was able to make it all the way to Valentia without dying.

Minor corrections and notes - Camus has technically been in 7 games, not 6 (Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light, Gaiden, Mystery of the Emblem, Archanea Saga, Shadow Dragon, New Mystery of the Emblem, and Echoes) - Pretty sure it was Gharnef who brokered the alliance between Grust and Dolhr, not Medeus - While he's in command of the Millenium Court, he allows Navarre, Lena, Rickard and their allies to go free after they try to ransack the Palace for treasure to buy food for the poor nearby - He was put on display naked in a cage and dragged about after helping Nyna to escape, or something similar, rather than just being thrown straight in a dungeon - something about showing the people of Archanea what happens to traitors - I wouldn't say that he's necessarily better in New Mystery than he is in Mystery considering the differences in stats on enemies in the two games, but he's definitely good in both - One thing to note is that the games themselves imply that Camus is a lot stronger than he typically lets on; I think Medeus himself says that Camus is almost as strong as Anri, a guy who quite literally fought through an army of dragons single-handedly. And as Camus himself remarks, his biggest flaw as a warrior is that his weapons will break - if he could use the Falchion, it's implied that he could have defeated Medeus by himself. One thing I do like about Camus' character that I think you slightly skimmed over is that his single-minded loyalty and especially his pride as a knight are depicted as his fatal flaws - as Gharnef says of him and Michalis, either of them could have easily been a threat to both Gharnef and Medeus, but they were prevented from doing so because of who they were as people, and Gharnef himself notes that he didn't have to brainwash them to know how to control them. Camus - at least in his Shadow Dragon incarnation - is controlled by Gharnef purely by controlling King Ludwik, and Camus' foolish pride as a knight prevents him from seeing how Gharnef is using him and prevents him from even considering changing side, unlike Ordwin or Cartas (one of the two, can't remember which), whom the game implies he is supposed to be the successor to. But yes, I like his depiction much better than, say, Selena "the Emperor is clearly insane but I'm still robotically powering on; wow what a noble person she is" Fluorspar.

What a nice video about one of my favorite characters, but I think that you forgot to mention two things I consider important about "CAMOOO" haha: First: In Shadows of Valentia there is a conversation with Zeke (from the ones you get at the entrance of a town or in Mila's statues) where he says that he doesn't knows from were he comes, people believes that he comes from the Archanean continent but he isn't sure about that since every time he tries to remember his head aches like if his lost memories were something umpleasant, except for one intact memory he has, but he won't talk about it since it would hurt Tatiana's feelings (This implies that he still remembers Nyna despite his amnesia). Second: Camus was the first character to set not one but two kind of character archetypes. The first one was the "Tragic enemy" archetype you mentioned in the video and that was reused by Eldigan, Selena, Bryce, Xander, etc., and the second and much less used one was the one I like to call the "Identity complex" or the "Reused character that shouldn't be here" archetype, this one refers to characters that reappear in later games but under a different identity for their own reasons (like amnesia or something), they also often appear under circumstances were they technically should't appear anymore but they're there anyway, the only times this archetype was used aside from Camus was with Bridget/Eyvel from Holy War/Thracia 776, Devdan/Danved from Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn, and the most famous one: Owain, Inigo and Severa from Awakening/Fates, so Fates wasn't the first one to reuse old characters, GAIDEN DID IT FIRST!!! (Sorry for the long comment).

There was no boat, he got washed up with Gradivus. According to that new Valentia Book that got released recently. Also, in FE 3 you need 3 more points to double, NOT 4

There HAS to have been a boat involved. If you take a look at the world map, Valentia is west of Archaneia, and Rigel again is on the west side of the Valentinan continent. For Camus to somehow drift ashore in Rigel without a vessel, he would have to traverse a distance by sea equal to the length of the Archanean continent, that’s freaking impossible, even for Camus. My guess is that he got on a ship that sailed around Valentia, and either capsized or got attacked by bandits, and then washed ashore. The head injury might have stemmed from a battle on the boat he was on. Regardless of what happened, unless magic was involved, there’s no freaking way he “washed ashore” in Rigel without the assistance of a ship.

If I'm not mistaken, I recall Sharena's name being pronounced as "Shar-ee-na" and "Shar-ay-na" in different Directs. Similarly, Lyon's name being pronounced differently by different characters. None of the pronunciations are necessarily "wrong" of course but there is certainly inconsistency.

I lifted my DnD character's name from Camus, pronounced the old way (ca-mus), because I took German and Russian influences for his country of origin. Maybe I'll start calling the Fire Emblem character "ca-moo" to differentiate the two, but it will certainly be difficult to break the old habit.

Camus is not really pronounced "CaMoo", the French sound "U" does not really exist in English, so most of the time English speakers can not pronounce it. the opposite also exists, the sound "th" is very difficult to pronounce by a non-English speaking, for example. The way Feh pronounced Camus' name was still not the French way. The letter u in French usually make the [y] sound (which is very unique to French, common words using it is "tu", "rue", "nue", etc.), but most Anglophones pronounce it as the [u] sound (the sound you hear in "Moo"). Camus' name shouldn't sound like Camoo, it should sound like Cam-[y], a much deeper sound which makes him sound more badass than Mr. Cow Man.

Camus is one of the most powerful warriors in Fire Emblem. I actually did a little thread about his feats and accomplishments, like how when helping Nyna escape, at the end, he gets praised two ways. If Bulzark is alive, Camus wiped out an entire battalion singlehandedly. If Bulzark is dead, Medeus praises Camus for wiping the entire battalion and also defeating Bulzark, even getting compared to Anri. Camus is one of the characters that I would say is actually just as strong as Greil in his prime and an Endgame Ike that reached Greil's prime's level. I would love to see Camus and Ike going at it. Or better yet, going against the Black Knight. The original Fire Emblem Black Knight versus the first known Black Knight for the western audience.
