Yup, Marble Hill is still a part of the borough of Manhattan (and New York County) despite being attached to the Bronx. And this is because at one point in time, Marble Hill WAS the northernmost tip of Manhattan Island! The Spuyten Duyvil Creek flowed around the neighborhood to the north, separating Marble Hill from the Bronx. Marble Hill became its own island in 1817, when two small streams were dug up to form a narrow canal. This canal was expanded to become the Harlem River Ship Canal in 1895. The island was then physically connected to the Bronx in 1913, when the old northern bend of the Spuyten Duyvil Creek was filled in. It was filled in with rocks that were removed to build Grand Central Terminal! The Bronx became its own county in 1914, but Marble Hill remained part of New York County. The name of Marble Hill was conceived when Darius C. Crosby came up with the name in 1891 from the deposits of dolomite marble underlying it known as Inwood marble. The marble was quarried for the federal buildings in Lower Manhattan when NYC was the national capital in the 1780s. Despite being part of Manhattan, Marble Hill has a Bronx ZIP code and uses Bronx area codes (though they did fight to retain Manhattan's 212 but it would've been too expensive). Harlem-148th St is quite the interesting station because it's located underneath a parking structure for a school (Frederick Douglass Academy) and was created within the confines of the preexisting Lenox Yard. In 1940, the city's Board of Transportation proposed extending the IRT Lenox Avenue Line to the Bronx along the northern portion of the IRT Ninth Avenue Line, in turn connecting to the Jerome Avenue Line at 167th Street. However, the tunnel from Sedgwick Avenue to Anderson-Jerome Avenues was built to elevated-railway standards, whose "open" third rails, which did not have any protective covers on top, were shorter than the subway's "covered" third rails. Another issue was that the Ninth Avenue Line could not carry subway cars, as it was only strong enough to carry the lighter wooden elevated cars. So this didn't happen. Instead, in 1957, a station at 150th St within the Lenox Yard was proposed to serve the nearby Harlem River Houses (public housing complex), as the community wanted one since the 1940s due to unreliable bus and trolley service. The station was later moved to 149th Street due to Lenox Yard's downsizing in the 1960s, with the land sold to the developers that would build the Frederick Douglass Academy and the Esplanade Gardens apartment complex above the yard and station. The new station opened in 1968 and was meant to replace 145th Street, due to the proximity of switches that prevented that station's lengthening to accommodate ten-car trains, however people protested so the station didn't close. As 145th St is so close to 148th St and it's the second-to-last stop, entry is only available to the southbound platform.

Thanks! I left that that fun fact out precisely hoping you would write about in the comments.😃

I just love Roosevelt Island so much. It was designed as a master-planned transit-oriented community around the subway station, as the island's unique circumstance gave them a blank slate to build a car-free community (mostly; they allowed cars later on because the hospitals needed vehicular access), so Roosevelt Island station on the IND 63rd Street Line was a crucial part of the plan! Besides the TOD proposal, the American Institute of Architects' NY chapter proposed that the island instead become a park (eventually the southernmost point became a state park in 2012), while another plan called for the island to become housing for United Nations staff. The TOD plan called for two neighborhoods named Northtown and Southtown, separated by a common area. With services such as parks and schools (it was planned with up to 16 schools serving grades K-12 with each accommodating 180 to 300 students; it had five by the 1980s and they were combined into PS/IS 217 in 1992) near every residence, and a pneumatic trash collection system which was the second AVAC system in the US after Magic Kingdom's Utilidors. Their AVAC system is one of the largest in the world, and trash is collected from each tower to the Central Collections and Compaction Plant at up to 60 miles per hour. Until 1989, Main Street was the island's only road! Main Street, along with the island's parks, was intended to be a communal area for the island's various ethnic groups and socioeconomic classes. The Octagon designed by Alexander Jackson Davis (who worked on the former 1833 North Carolina State Capitol, Litchfield Villa in Brooklyn's Prospect Park, and the Lyndhurst mansion in Tarrytown), a remnant of a hospital made famous by Nellie Bly, has since been incorporated as part of a large apartment complex! Not to mention, there's the Cornell Tech graduate campus on the island now as well. The aerial tramway became a thing because the subway station was delayed and they wanted people to have transit to Manhattan, so they came up with the aerial tramway that opened in 1976. When the subway station finally opened in 1989, residents didn't want the tramway to close because it provided a wheelchair-accessible connection to more bus routes in Manhattan than the subway did, and the RIOC wanted to attract tourists as well, thus it stayed open and became a popular attraction! The tramway was actually the last in NYC to stop using tokens, as they still accepted them until March 2004, and during the NYC transit strike in 2005, it transported three times its passenger count! The island's free Red Bus does continuous loops around the island, as well as a Shopper's Bus for seniors and those with disabilities to Costco in Astoria. The Q102 bus serves the island as well, connecting the island with Astoria

That was a great video, Mr. SuprToe! I do have a few things to say about it, though. The delay on the B train is a perfect example of why you should NEVER pull the emergency brake on the Subway. I also know exactly why the Cortlandt and Rector stations on the 1 train and the Cortlandt station on the R train were closed down, but I don't discuss it on my channel. I also remember Hurricane Sandy, and it was definitely a pretty nasty and scary storm, but I'm glad my family and I survived it. It also makes perfect sense that you ended at 207th Street on the A train. I even had a feeling you might get an R211, and it turns out I was right! Those trains truly are amazing! Anyway, I hope you have a nice rest of the day!

11:07 - I think the lower level was built because of the fact that some trains might’ve terminated at City Hall instead of Whitehall St. There were plans carried out to build the lower level, but due to the fact that the R ran to Bay Ridge via Montague St and the N/Q ran along the bridge, this lower level was no longer needed. It is still there, but in the footage you took, it was blocked. Travel In New York has a pretty good video on the City Hall Lower Level. Also, Roosevelt Av has an abandoned upper level, and it’s planned to be reactivated for the IBX. I believe the ramp is still there, but in the future, the IBX (Inter-Borough Express) will run from Brooklyn to Queens like the G train. The line will follow the ROW of the LIRR Bay Ridge branch, which DOES exist, but is only used for freight.

Idea: (1) (7) (G) (L) - (1) small, (1) big. Basically, you ride subway trains that serve a small portion of one borough, and a big portion of the other borough. For example: The (1) Train serves 3 stations in the Bronx, the (7) Train serves 4 stations in Manhattan, the (G) Train serves 3 stations in Queens & the (L) Train serves 5 stations in Manhattan. To start the trip, take the (1) Train from 242nd all the way to Times Square. Transfer to the (7) Train. You're gonna ride it to Court Square to transfer to the (G) Train. Ride the (G) Train all the way to Lorimer Street to transfer to the (L) Train. To conclude the trip, you can ride the (L) Train all the way to 6th Avenue-14th Street and transfer back to the (1) Train. What do you think?
