I think the gunman might have a family member that was denied medical treatment because of the insurance company and that’s what happened. But the way he cleared that barrel jam was professional he’s not a newbie that’s for sure. He knows firearms.

United Healthcare has a reputation for weasling out of paying legitimate claims (by denying referrals, by labeling proven treatments experimental, and so on). I'm not surprised that this happened; I'm surprised that it took so long.

As a former executive assistant who worked for a CEO, the annual investors meetings last about 3 days with a lineup of speakers from different companies. They start with breakfast usually around 7ish. The shooter knew the schedule because these meetings are usually public. The guest speakers including the ones running the show get booked at the same venue where the investors meeting is held because of discounted block room rates. It’s puzzling to me why this CEO wasn’t staying at the Hilton. This could have saved his life😢. Very sad indeed.
@jw_FL10 сағат бұрын
It could be because it’s Christmas and the hotel didn’t have availability for these dates. A lot of plan plan their vacations way in advance so the event planners failed to consider that and missed out
@santafilipina902010 сағат бұрын
@ We planned events up to a year in advance as we are familiar with all the wrinkles that could occur. AIMs are big deal and host companies are veterans at this game. The host company (in this case the slain CEO) usually gets first dibs. My only conclusion is that he preferred to stay outside the venue 🤷♀️

I’ve attended many of these, and I agree with your comment. Most last longer. However I checked their investor relations site, and their news release reflects that they scheduled only one day for their investor meeting - today, Wednesday, 12/4/2024, starting at 8:00am. It matches what UNH did one year prior in 2023, on a Wednesday, 11/29/2023 starting at 8:00am.

I don’t think this has anything to do with an insurance claim. And for the wife to immediately throw that out, is suspicious to me. This points to an “inside job” - either the wife or corporate/political sure raises flags. This shooter knew his itinerary - the guy lived in MN, had to fly to NYC, had meetings at a specific time and at that location. Only a handful of people would know these details. I also believe the shooter has done this before - he was calm, had a plan, knew the area, and is long gone. NYC is the perfect place to commit a crime like this right now, with the number of gangs and illegal activities going in…..makes it easy to get rid of evidence.
@maddieray54066 сағат бұрын
He was going to a yearly investor conference. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the chief will be there and stand outside and wait for him to arrive.
@u.synlig5 сағат бұрын
"[W]ith the number of gangs and illegal activities going on, makes it easy to get rid of evidence." 😁 1) The river has always been there; 2) there were more gangs and illegal activities going on in the 1980s; and 3) it would have been easier to get rid of evidence then (in the '80s), because in addition to the greater incidence of illegal activity, there was less (and less sophisticated) surveillance -- both publicly organized, private business maintained and personal residence-related.
@Lynda-l4t5x4 сағат бұрын
@@maddieray5406 - obviously you know more than most, right?? So why wouldn’t Thompson be staying at the very hotel that the conference was held??? That would be normal and expected. So how would the shooter know that he stayed somewhere else and not at the Hilton? How would the shooter know that he would be arriving early at the Hilton?? Not rocket science….more like inside information!! Corporate itinerary information is not something that is given out publicly, even within their own offices.
@Lynda-l4t5x4 сағат бұрын
@ - guess you haven’t been there lately! The “sanctuary city” tents that house all the illegal immigrants including the Venezualan gangs, which have been off limits to law enforcement, either by law or by choice - no one is sure. Guns, drugs and stolen goods are rampant in those confined areas - easy to get rid of anything quickly!

I’m sure you all have learned several things: 1- Brian Thompson was the CEO of the United healthcare insurance arm, not of the entire company. It’s a huge job, but not the biggest job. 2- Insiders are controlled as to when they can trade their stock, and evidently he and 3 other execs sold stock during a period that they shouldn’t have. So the DOJ was investigating them, but it likely didn’t really impact anything. There hasn’t been a negative resolution. And Brian only sold $10-15MM, not the $150MM reported. 3- The UNH investor meeting info is public. He likely walked from the Hilton to his hotel and back a few times, as he arrived Monday. Clearly the police will look at video from Monday & Tuesday to see if this shooter watched him, or even if someone else watched him.

I thought the same thing. In our country there are so many people that are just overpaid for the job that they do. Athletes and actors are others that are way overpaid. I like being in a free country, but I don't like that.

There is a criteria to getting things done. Plus it's a free country people can get another insurance company if they aren't happy. Just blows my mind they are solely blaming him on how insurance operates.

In the arena of capitalism, the super-wealthy (not just "rich") are worth more -- not only in terms of their personal financial status, but in that they fuel the system's motion. (That is why the U.S. has now -- generally -- accepted that even their government is controlled by the super-wealthy. Having the power of money (access to it, control of it, influence on its movement) defeats the collective power of the democratic process, and the plurality are now okay with that reality.) So, greater resources flow to them. They are accepted as the key organs of this society; when the body's function is jeopardized, the lowly toes (at the extremity of the body's functions) can be sacrificed.

Sports stores, kind of military color, very neat, not a normal back pack. He didn’t want to be heard shooting. Thus, the silencer. He had been watching the CEO cross the street probably for 2 or 3 days. A pattern. Look at the hands. Coward shooting from behind. Dig into testimony. Maybe he was hired.
