As a man of a certain age I've actually got tears running down my cheeks! Reni and Mani, the true beating heart of the Greatest Band Of All Time, even if it was only for short while.

I feel you bruv. As a musician from manchester who is of that 'certain' age i too hold the boys in a very special place in my increasingly crowded heart, right alongside Bowie, Jeff Buckley and of course Lemmy. The Stone Roses were/are a rare example of what happens when music and magic give mojo a call and then all get in bed with madame miraculous. Not sure why all the 'Ms' but lets go with it and call it the making of the Manchester Monarchy :-) Marvelous eh!

Cheers for this. Fools Gold is my favourite song of all time and probably always will while Reni will forever be our musical hero.

The beat is a mix between Bobby Bird's "Hot Pants bonus beats "12" and then Reni playing over the top and I am pretty sure the producer looped him as the beat remains steady all the way through. The bongo's are an overdub , not sure if Ian or Reni played those on the recording. The bass is a reinterpretation of Young MC' "Know How ". There is a book just about to come out dedicated solely to Reni.

I always assumed it was Ian playing congas, but there's video of Reni playing them.

If you've ever seen the Blackpool live video and watched Ian Brown playing Bongos you'd know he didn't play on Fools Gold - it was definitely Reni

Absolutely right, recently had the pleasure of recording with John Cornfield, i asked him how reni played this as i had been trying for years, he responded by saying "you'll never play it!" I was gutted, thinking john didn't rate my playing abilities, and then he explained it was a Sample and another track that Reni played against! Confidence Restored!!

Reni didn’t play was a machine(unless his playing was recorded/sequnced: most of what we think is bass was the guitar

Very tinny mix! Needs a LOT more bass, middle and way less treble!

except this drum loop wasn't reni. it was sampled off a south bronx hip hop record
