After some more practice I fixed some of my mistakes (and made some others) and brought my time down a little. I think I can bring it down below 4-40.

I loved this game when i was kid! I would rent it every weekend spending the entire time trying to get the chainsaw to work and putting the hamster in the microwave..

Haha! I decided to speedrun this game for similar reasons. I played this game many times during my childhood, so the nostalgia factor is high.

Since english is not my primary language, I couldn't play this game when I was a kid, but now that I remembered this game, I think I'll get back to it!

You should do a speedrun of Meteor Mess. My PB is just under 29 minutes, using Bernard and Dave and whoever else, with NO glitches. I don't know of any glitches in Meteor Mess, thats why I throw down the challenge at you! Edit (5 days later): My PB is now 17m40s.

I understand glitching past tentacles to get a record, but why would you include a door with passcode 1111? Seems like cheating.

0:50 How did you pass by Green Tentacle without feeding them?!
@non-slimjim98374 жыл бұрын
Through exploitation of a glitch. If you switch characters, or ESC out of a cutscence (like someone being put in the dungeon) you can get by the tentacles. The reason for switching while on the stairs is that there's only a small % chance of getting all the way up the stairs before the game corrects itself and forces you back down the stairs. Switching maintains it. This glitch is used again at the end to get by the purple tentacle.

@@non-slimjim9837 I read, that glitch works for NES Version only?! Is that right?! Nice run!!
@non-slimjim98373 жыл бұрын
@@ForstAdjunkt No, it works on DOS version, too. That's the version I'm running here, emulated through SVUMMVM.

Cool. Now do the same speedrun without cheating.

What do you mean?

@@non-slimjim9837 0:35 and 4:00 you didn't have to open the door and you could enter anything (1111). Normally you need to open the door on the first floor by typing anything and the door to the laboratory will only open when you type: 3301, 5858, 7572 or 8640. You are playing a badly broken MM version. PS. Sorry for translator.
@non-slimjim98375 жыл бұрын
@@3dhYT This is the Steam version of the game. In that version, there is no copy protection, so the door at the top of the stairs is disabled. Being able to enter any number on the lab door is (as far as I know), unique to either this version of the game, or SCUMMVM (which this version uses), and it's possible it is related to the disabling of copy protection. However, I have not done anything to the game. The game can be purchased like this from the Steam store. If the game is badly broken, it is the current owners of the copyright (Disney) that have done that, either by changing the game itself, or by releasing it with SCUMMVM (so that it can be played on modern PCs without having to install additional software).
@3dhYT5 жыл бұрын
@@non-slimjim9837 The GoG version is also badly broken. I have a correctly broken version. The only thing removed here is copy protection: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3uaoaScbcSqla8 The rest (lab code, Edna phone number, etc.) works as it should. The game only works properly in DOSBox. On SCUMMVM, all codes are broken.
@non-slimjim98375 жыл бұрын
@@3dhYT That's why there are two separate categories on Speedrun.com, one for SCUMMVM, and one for DOSBox. Most runners choose to use SCUMMVM, though.

cheating is not a WR

If you want glitchless, there’s different categories for that. In speedrunning, as long as you don’t modify the games code, taking advantage of bad/glitchy programming is usually fair game.
