No, Ralph! Don't use any paper from Joann's or Michael's! Invest in Neenah Classic Crest Solar White and it is great for alcohol marker coloring! You work so hard in making your cards, and paper is one of the things I have learned to invest in. It can be expensive but worth it, and you can just use Neenah for stamping and alcohol marker coloring to save it. PS: your warped plates, flip them everytime you run them through, it will help them stay flat longer. Congrats on teaching at Hero Arts, I am happy for you! 🎉

Beautiful card! The foxes were the perfect choice! I love your channel! You explain everything so well and you are so fun! I do have the magnetic board for my Sissix and love it! My plates are fairly new so i haven't had any issues with warping plates yet. The dies hold very well. You have to adjust placement of dies sometimes to get a good hold ( only if using a lot of dies at once) but it's worked very well for me. I haven't used tape since! Thank you for sharing and hoping you have much cooler weather soon! Happy Fall🍁🌻

I had the magnetic base for my Big Shot and hated it. It's great, in theory, but the magnets aren't all throughout the base so the dies tend to "jump" to where the magnets are and they shift around. I prefer using the purple tape from Crafter's Essentials (sometimes called highlighter tape) as it NEVER sticks or damages my projects and I can reuse it a few times before it dies. Spellbinder's yellow craft tape works really well, too, and I can reuse it.

Fall is my favorite time of year too! I have a big shot and the magnetic plate but I rarely use it because the dies will jump because of the magnet placement in the plate. Other machines might have a better one.

I do have a magnetic plate but I also always make sure I have a spare one on hand. Since in my experience they warp a little bit too. Not as much as regular plates but still enough to mess with my dies. Unlike regular plates the magnetic plate I use can not be used on both sides. Hence my preference for having a spare on hand at all times. I was wondering if you make cards for personal use only? Or do you sell them somehow?

I end up using tape with the magnetic plate anyway. The dies tend to jump to where the magnets are because the whole thing is not magnetic. I would invest in a good self healing mat. Always cut into that and keep one plate clean so you don’t get cut marks embossed into the die cuts.

Yes, Alberto is the G.O.A.T. of Copic coloring and he is so right that the cardstock does make a huge difference when using Copic markers. I've found some that are my favorites; Gina K. Designs layering or heavy weight (bleeds through the layering, doesn't bleed through on the heavy wt), and for the whitest of whites, and one that does NOT crack when scored and folded, is the Simon Hurley Stark White cardstock that I use for my card bases....you can also use it when watercoloring your images! I signed up for your newsletter emails, so I'm hoping that also includes links to your KZbin videos because KZbin is less that cooperative about sending notifications even though I'm subscribed!

I like your card very much! I have had a magnetic cutting platform (it replaces the regular platform) for years and love it. I use it the most. I will still sometimes tape a small die but if you keep it away from the edge of the platform it usually doesn't jump. Note: you do not cut directly on the platform...use the cutting plates on top of it. I recently found out that the Spellbinders Universal cutting plate system that some of the makers use can be also used in a Big Shot . I will buying new cutting plates as one is pretty warped. I've been using Neenah Classic Solar White 110 lb. I However, I may be ordering 100 lb Hammermill or 80 lb Neenah for die cutting. Happy Fall to you, Ralph.

Spectrum Noir Finesse Alcohol Proof Ink works great with alcohol markers, if you want to pursue it further. I got mine on Amazon. I've tried magnetic shims with a few die-cut machines; all warp. Then I tried the Anna Griffin Empress machine. The magnetic plates with the Empress (both regular and mini) are actual plates, much thicker than all the other magnetic shims. Game changer. Dies stay in place and the plates don't warp. The mini is amazing because its wider than most minis and can be used for most die-cutting. I think Cathy Z just started using an Empress so you could always reach out to her if interested further.

Another thing I thought of Ralph and you’re probably familiar with it and maybe just don’t have them or have them yet. For craft makers it’s always have them yet because it’s the next craft supply you’re going to buy because there is no stopping but anyway I digress. Tim Holtz, I believe, is the one I that has scissors that that you can use when cutting anything where it might get sticky or foam, tape or whatever. Just thought I’d mention it. Everyone gets tired of wiping off their scissors with alcohol at some point.

Ralph, I have found this to work the best. Hero Arts, Lawn Fawn, Pinkfresh and the Stamp market for copic with the black not running for the most part. Heffy Doodle makes the best paper for the money for working with copics. The only problem with that is the fact that, that paper is super white and most paper that we use for card bases are not. They do make a copic paper and it works great as well, but the for the money the heffy doodle. Yes, the magnetic plate works even with the clear plates being warped. The other companies have blacks that work well as well, but I find that the low numbers in the copics that have the most blending solution will still smear the black so be careful with that. I do not like momento as it just isnt crisp enough for me. I don't want to spend all the time to make a card to have a lack laster sentiment. Also Gina K's, MFT, Honey Bee, and CTMH Intense black also work well with copics or alcohol inks. The ones up above is who I gravitate to. Hope this helps.

Great video! For my die cutting machines I straighten my plates with boiling hot water and glass weights at each corner and in the middle. This method has worked for me for years. I’ve never purchased a replacement die cutting plate for any of my Platinum 6 or original Gemini. I’m still using all of my original plates. Also I started using self healing mats from Amazon as cutting plates for intricate dies. It’s been wonderful so far. Way more cost effective than the magic mats.

I have the magnetic plate. find it not fun to use and time consuming. it sits off by itself on the table unused after numerous times experimenting. Problem with it, I found that it moved the die. it does not hold in place like tape. It is like the magnet shifts the die and I spend more time trying to find the "sweet" spot to hold the die or shift the paper to make it fit where the die wants to sit still. My vote is NO. By the way, thank you for the video on Cricut Joy. I bought it because of you and love it! Love the hint about the green tape and running through die cut machine. By the way....love the card

Ralph - forget the mint tape. Get a roll of blue painters tape or the green Frog tape from the paint section of your favorite store. Much cheaper and you can use it many times. The magnetic plates are nice, but the dies can also "jump" , moving with the magnetic fields. Much safer to put a wee piece of tape on to hold the die in place

re: magnetic platform - it's a lovely idea but I find it isn't miraculous, as with magnets, there is polarity and this happens and displaces the die if you don't have it taped down

The answer for me when it comes to die cutting turned out to be magic mats. I personally did not think they'd actually work as advertised, but I haven't had to replace my clear cutting plates since I started using them. I have the magnetic plates and they did help a little, but the magic mat has been the best final answer.

Super cute card! You’ve inspired me to take out my dusty alcohol markers and be confident I’ll turn out a good image in spite of my inexperience. Thanks Ralph.
