Manila Travel Guide: Baywalk, Rajah Sulayman Park & Malate Church and Manila Bay Clean up drive
The Baywalk is a 2 km seside promenade beside Roxas blvd overlooking the Manila Bay. It stretches from the Manila yacht club to the US embassy near the Luneta park. Its a popular area for locals and tourist a like. The Baywalk is perfect for morning walks or run. and in the afternoon it is the perfect spot to catch the manila bay sunset
The beach consist of huge rocks scattered through out and it works as a breakwater but on the Us embassy side of the baywalk there is a small stretch of sand. Swimming here is prohibited because the water is dirty. Unlike the other cities of the Philippines Manila is not blessed with a beautiful beach. But the clean up is under way.
We got the chance to buy some street food at the Baywalk. We bought Kutsinta, a type of rice cake and Taho. a tofu based snack served with caramel and sago.

Those rocks on the water's edge need to be hit by high pressure detergent water. They still have oil residue from shipping on the bay. Resulting detergent oily water needs to be skimmed of by vacuum hoses going back into truck waste tanks. The results will be seagulls coming back to Manila bay. Check out remediation procedure in Alaska by Exxon barge spill.

the sand is dark like that coz no corals can live in that waters. brought by urbanized, industrialized cities around and busy shipping ports. but there’s still hope, if all the cities around work together and cooperate to bring back the glory of Manila Bay.

You can't really appreciate the Manila Bay with such an antiquated development so it's about time that they start redeveloping it as a tourist landmark with global appeal. Extend through reclamation the area of the place by at least 50 to 75 meters, greenery strip, promenade and a new boardwalk should be broad enough for everyday peak crowds. The beachfront should be at least be 25 meters wide and white sand. Introduce tour boats and colorful outriggers plus water sports. Make it like this either famous urban beachfronts like Rio or Goldcoast. All these within the proximity of urbanized Metro-Manila which due to its massive cityscape has it's own unique travelogue appeal. The opposite side of the boulevard would by default grow exponentially with Hospitality, F&B and commercial enterprises catering to the Bay improvement. This is a potential gold mine for Manila and another milestone for Philippine tourism. Hopefully they follow-up on the momentum.

Thanks for this idea. Its a good idea actually. I have always wondered the other side of the Manila bay looks like and how people go about their lives there. But sadly this is a huge undertaking and with my current situation (with my current office job and all) will not be able to acconllish this. i heard the stretch of sand used to be light or white in the early 1900s until pollution turned it black....we have a world class sunset or attraction but the venue is WA-CLASS (no class)...the sidewalk needs improvement, the landscaping/greenery looks cheap and the lamp posts appear very distasteful...the whole old manila need to be redesigned according to historical photographs....it’s really nothing to be proud of, IT LOOKS CHEAP
