Nice collection of mango varieties. I was amazed you have Manila mango.

You are so right Naveed that beggars can't be choosers!.. in marginal climates, and Manila and the other small Asian Mango trees grow well in California where other types will not. But,I have heard that Glenn,Baileys Marvel,Valencia Pride all bear well and the tree's can take our long cold Med winter and spring. At least Arizona has warm and dry in spring.

Looks great! Need a couple of tortoises to take care of that Bermuda.

Great idea, I am sick of the grass, everytime I remove it , the grass comes back. I have no experience with tortoise habitats, so will read up and decide.

Have you had fruit more recently? Did the taste get better or is it still a bad mango?
@TheNaveed7874 ай бұрын
This Manilla mango tree is not the variety from Manilla, Philippines. This tree is grown from seed from some California nursery and then sold in Lowes and Home Depot stores. This is not a good quality mango at all. It does not taste good at all. No juice, no flavor and flesh is not soft. Currently I am grafting it with other good varieties. As of now I have Valencia Price, CAC mango and Sugar Loaf mango grafts successfully grafted on it.

Wow, that's nice. I think the one I bought from HomeDepot is the same as your, 24.95 in a 3gal, about 3ft tall, but the trunk is so thin, 3/8 of an inch so it's very leggy and need support. Was your the same, does it eventually balance out? seem like mine is only getting taller and not bigger.
@TheNaveed7875 жыл бұрын
Mine was not that thin of a trunk. I pruned mine so it can multi branch. Yours will keep getting taller if you do not prune. Prunning is a must for mangoes to establish a good multi branch canopy. You can email me a picture and I can suggest cut points for prunning. Good luck. Email: Naveed787@gmail.com

i just picked up one from Home Depot and mine is really thin trunk too but I'm going to take off half of it to encourage branching and to keep it from being tall and leggy

nam doc mai have u tasted...manila vs doc mai...sweet?
@TheNaveed7872 жыл бұрын
Nam Doc Mai is much sweeter. This variety of Manlia mango is not good at all. This is the tree I use for seeds to germinate. Manila Mango as a rootstock does very good in Arizona soil.
@rahiarman1232 жыл бұрын
but Naveed bhai manila mango is written as Carabao mango in google which is worlds sweetest by guinees book 1995...so i am in a confusion now

Rahi, there could be multiple varities named the same. I mean Manila Mango in Phillipine is not the same Manila Mango sold here in Phoenix. This particular Manila is not good at all. I am sure the one in Phillipine must be very good Manila mango.
@maggietawadrous73494 жыл бұрын
How was the taste? Is it different than the store Manila? Store Manila mango taste bad, but I think the one you grow will tastes better? Doesn’t it?
@TheNaveed7874 жыл бұрын
Yes definitely, the home grown Manilla mango taste better than the store bought Manilla mango. But when compared to other varieties in my garden, Manilla is rated very low in my opinion. I planted it as a host tree, so I can graft other varities on it. Another advantage is that this seed grown Manilla mango tree does very good in Phoenix soil. Growth rate and tree health is very good as compared to Florida mangoes when planted in Phoenix soil.
@maggietawadrous73494 жыл бұрын
Thank you for replying. I live in Southern California. Manila is doing good here. I tried Florida varieties with no success. I planted Manila. Glenn is doing good as well. Next spring I will plant some Indian varieties.
@TheNaveed7874 жыл бұрын
Hanna, my Phoenix soil is ultra compact and very hard with minimum water drainage, and mangoes struggle in such soil. May be your area soil is like that. If you have not seen this video, then please do, and try the raised bed planting method. Great success for me so far. kzbin.info/www/bejne/haTViJpvbMlmfdU

@@maggietawadrous7349 me too, Socal here. People buy Manila seedlings because they do well here, cold tolerant to 30 and they don't mind the salt and high pH in the soil as much. I'm probably going to graft another variety and use it for rootstock if it does well in ground. Going to plant mine in the spring!!

@@TheNaveed787 Florida rootstocks don't do so well in Socal either from what I read on the socal tropical fruit forums
