A Meitei woman and a Meitei Pangal man, both from Imphal Valley were safely rescued from Manipur’s Kangpokpi district by security forces on December 12. The two individuals were detained by members of the women's wing of the Committee on Tribal Unity in Gamgiphai area after the two crossed the buffer zone on Monday evening.
Soon after receiving the information, troops of Assam Rifles from Motbung rushed to the spot and safely rescued them. The two were identified as Mohammad Hussian, alias Ningthem from Kwakta Moirang Kendra and Lata Laishram of Sekmaijin from Langjing Bazar. As per sources, both of them were under the influence of alcohol and reached Gamgiphai after they lost their way.
According to a statement by the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), the two individuals from the valley district crossed the buffer zone at around midnight of December 11 and were handed over to Assam Rifles and Kangpokpi Police on Tuesday.
