Nice video angle showing that Manitowoc 4100W crane with full view of the boom. Those Manitowocs are true workhorses, whether on a erection job or as here, an "old fashioned" demolition job. Correct me if wrong, but I believe the operator in this video might be an apprentice, as another video of this same demo job seems to me to have a different operator. That operator in the other video seems to take less time between hoisting and dropping of the ball, and also in transitioning from dropping to swinging the ball. He also seems to take less time in positioning the ball prior to swinging. If this one is an apprentice and learning, I wish him a long, safe and successful career. In any event, it's always fun seeing this kind of crane and ball demolition!! Thanks for posting. Please post more as this job progresses.

Great find you don’t see the old ball and crane anymore let alone an old friction crawler like that

I would rather operate a 4100 any day over a hydraulic crane. Much more feeling of the machine. Plus the 4100 Vicon is one bas ass machine. Can't find operators for them anymore. The new generation is soft and have to have air condition.

Yep! Got his hand on the door frame hanging on for dear life and cant spot his drift on the ball when he swings. Using the back side of building to crutch the drift instead of grabbing it with boom and counter swing. When I was an apprentice oiler my operator slammed the door on my hand when I was hanging onto the door frame I only did that once and the habit was broke

Why use such a small wrecking ball?

That is very hard on a crane. Side loading the shiv at the boom point. Also working the swing clutch too much. Plus jaring the boom. Just not made for that.

Hard on the crane.lol they are not even close too being hard on that 4100.seems like a waste of diesel and a damn fine machine too me.

I don’t believe this is a very good technique Lot of side pull and torque. Also as soon as I see an operator with his hand on door frame tells me not that much experience

After retiring with 45 years operating, all I see is one damn boring job. 😅

I love a good demo video but this was not one. No major collapse. Boring.
