So happy you guys did a video on Manizales, which is on our list of possible retirement cities ! We are currently in Nicaragua, then heading for Guatemala and Mexico…. Then Manizales, Cuenca Ecuador, Arequipa Peru, Buenas Aires, Bariloche….hoping we can pick our favorite by then maybe Thx !

It's a nice city. Smaller but still big and a bit more modern than small towns. - It's cooler than Medellin and a little warmer than Bogota. So, very comfortable considering there is no insulation.

Guys that was great. Congrats for such a beautiful video. And let me tell you, I don’t usually follow KZbinrs, because the majority are too superficial and shallow, but you are different: the way you talk, how you express yourselves. For example something that was surprising for me was when you said something about young people smoking, it says a lot about you guys. Considering the fact that you come from a country where everything seems to be normal. GUYS YOU ARE THE BEST! And I meant ❤that.

Jonny here... Zach, geography is a must. I actually taught high-school geography for 3 years right after graduating college. So my brain is quite attuned to looking at things in that lens. I'm happy to hear you're enjoying that.

(Jonny here) No quick answer here... We met 8 years ago while Widny was working as a stay at home nanny in the United States... We crossed paths and fell in love and decided to keep that love alive and got married a year later. We did not really consider moving to Colombia until about 2019. Then the pandemic made it even more possible with remote working options. Widny is originally from Bogota, so it made sense to make our home base in that city to spend more time with her family. - Out of all places to meet, we met on a dating site called Plenty of Fish.

I have 90 days in Colombia and was planning to go to Medellin next month, but don't really have anything booked, currently have an Airbnb, and I'm originally from British Columbia, Canada & enjoying the experience here, 1st time in South America. I love the Manizales culture !!! There are many activities tondo every day. Very interesting b!! I love the hot springs and Manizales has close 7 hot springs, people use tongo there at nights !!! Manizales has a Geriatric hospital !!!

We don't pay much attention to the hospitals, but we can see how that would be important. - The culture is nice, the people seem generally very content with everything and living.

Es cierto que en Manizales llueve mucho, casi todos los dias, la ventaja es que tan pronto como empieza la lluvia, también termina pronto, es raro que dure mas de 30 minutos u 1 hora, también tiene algo llamado microclimas por lo que mientras en algunas partes de la ciudad hace un dia soleado en otras llueve muy fuerte, pero tampoco es muy incómodo por lo que las lluvias duran pocom

I just absolutely love Medellin, especially Laureles. I'm looking for a smaller city though, but one that has as much greenery and as many parks everywhere, which Medellin has! Is Manizales "green," and what other city do you recommend if I love Laureles so much.

Hi James! - Manizales is very green and there are several hot springs just about 15-20 minutes away by car. - If more green and smaller is what you seek, I'd look at Armenia. - If you're looking for something similar to Laureles, I honestly think of several neighborhoods in Bogota like: Quinta Camacho, Cedritos, Santa Barbara, Parque 93, and generally Usaquen. There are lots of restaurants and several city parks that are much bigger than Primer Parque Laureles. These areas are also more developed versus the rest of the city making it way more walkable and friendly in general. - Overall, I encourage anyone to give more than one city or town a visit if time permits.

For a city... Manizales is better. However, if you like the warmer temperatures, you might enjoy Armenia more. The one plus about Armenia is that you can get to the Cocora Valley in about 30-40 minutes. This areas has a ton of outdoors activities if that's something you're into.

That’s Termales El Otoño. It didn’t take much to get there, maybe 20 minutes using Uber.
