Actually, the whole incident is a big deal because Subash is the ONLY person known to have survived the fall...and by luck his pants got caught on the rock which is why he was at a reachable depth. The cave goes waaaay deeper and has never been mapped. People have gone in on purpose as well...again...out of the 16 reported cases, this is the one and only case of survival.

The caves were originally called devil's kitchen ,also had different names but after Kamals movie "GUNA" which was exclusively shot there, the cave was famously called the Guna cave. The song in the beginning is from the movie Guna which is about a mentally disturbed person or mentally ill person writing a letter to his imaginary girl expressing his mad love. The song takes place in the cave, where guna actually abducted a girl believing it to his imaginary girlfriend. The song actually ends half way in the title card and resumes from where subash is rescued. The context of placing the song there is symbolise love even if its between friends. Also the director and crew were huge fans of Kamal Hasan as theyve mentioned throughout.Hope this gives some insight to jaby about the song placement 🤟

And the depth of the cave was also extended in CGI a lot. I can confirm that because I did those CGI environments inside the cave which bhasi is stuck on. @@miserablevfx yes there are some CGI VFX used in the inside cave shots, that has admitted by the director himself, but other than that all are made by the art team. they have built the whole cave and the inside cave as three parts 1. Upper part where all the friends and rescue team scenes were shot. 2. inside cave were builded as 2 sections ( each sections had a height of 45 feet each) cave entry and bottom where subhash found. The actors who are playing cops characters are from Tamil actors and two or three have been in the original guna caves, even they were stating in a interview that if they came to the set blindfolded they would have would have believed that they are in original guna caves. The Total budget of the movie was apr. 20 crores INR and out of which around 5- 6 Crores used for the setwork. So majority of the film have practical effects. Please go through some of the behind-the-scenes of the movie.

15:51 It's not CGI, they had created a replica of the Guna cave in an abandoned godown in Perumbavoor, located in Kerala, in order to shoot the scenes inside the cave and the pit that Subhash fell into. You guys should watch the making video of this film. This is a movie based on a true incident that happened in 2006 when a group of young people who had gone on an excursion from Kerala to Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu visited Guna Cave on their way back from the excursion. The romantic song in the beginning is the most important aspect of the movie, not only because the original song was shot in the cave and that's what made them go there in the first place, but mainly because of the lyrics "It is not mere mortal love that humans understand, it is beyond that, it is divine love." Fits in perfectly when his friend chooses to risk his own life to save his friend, that's the highest form of love and not everyone can experience that. I am more deeply moved by the movie because of the song and its lyrics, without that, I don't think it would have had the same impact on me.

The greatness of the epilogue is that after Subash's mom berated Siju (Soubin Shahir) for being responsible for Subash's injuries, Siju almost accepted that he would be hated for eternity, despite his selfless act. Hence, Subash's mother reconciling with Siju made way for a heart-touching moment. The term "unsung hero" couldn't be more apt.

@@user-oi8bc4gl9u I think you're a proud Tamilian. The movie could happen otherwise also. The song just amplifies the experience. To shoot in the cave is fine. But to shoot the rescue scene from that hole is not possible. The camera and camera man can't go inside. So hence the set. You can't simply blame the makers for their approach. The team is making a movie, an experience not a documentary to document the guna caves. The talk and collection is the result of that experience people got. They used the technology to the best. No doubt. I don't understand what you're saying. Kamal Hassan's coverage in the Guna movie is only in the guna cave. Not in the Devil's kitchen they are showing in this movie. And hence since it's a survival movie. The set is required. Otherwise the guna cave is not hard to show. The movie also shows how people can go to the caves. Come on dude. No disrespect to Kamal Hassan or anything. You're not understanding the larger scope of things. I also went to Kodaikanal. Not like other industries are bad or something, they have their own way to shine and we have our own, most probably we just scope on the regional life and stories of people, so we can add more details and creative features, cause we have enjoyed that life and that could also make the movie more relatable.... The fact that filmmakers had nerf down original story to make it realistic is mind-boggling. Like they didn't have the pulley. The police took all of their money just enough that they could reach home. They met with an accident on their way back home.

Most beautiful part of the ending was that it depicted rebirth of shubhash, he was covered with blood like new born babies n was naked original one was for the movie they added pants part, rope symbolised of umbilical cord and cave opening is like female part from where he comes out so,the whole scene symbolised of rebirth. that was very interesting concept, i like that, one more thing i liked about this movie was when shubhash ask what is god n his friend reply that God is light and light fell upon him during rescue that scene was really very good. Hats off to the direction and salute to original manjummel boys who rescued there friends without thinking about themselves.

The movie is about these bunch of village-town boys who grew up together in the interior areas of kerala. from what i understood as a north indian. they all are from lower income families.. working in plants, doing manual labour type work.. havent married yet and just drinking and partying. their life, given their setting, is perfect. they are faced with an unimaginable horror and they take time to realise the gravity of the situation, thats why they didnt get into "action mode" right away. But, it shows boys like these, the local town boys, the manjummel boys arent really local drunks wasting their lives (like how people around them used to view them). Theres value in living amongst a tribe of men like this. Thats the part most indians, most men here, would resonate with.

The romantic song was Kanmani Anbodu Kadhalan composed by Ilayaraja for the movie 'Guna'. The film portrays immortal love beyond differences between two lovers....and the lyrics in the song is the most beautiful part which you guys shldve focused on. The song was brilliantly placed by Director Chidambaram because he used the lines which showed the purity in love not for a man and a woman but also that it can be used to show the depth of friendship they had...hence the last line "This is not a love that mere mortals can understand, its immortal and more pure" Just great Director Brilliance❤

The song from the start of the movie is from Kamal Hassan's movie "Guna", which was shot in that cave and hence made it famous as "Guna Cave". Prior to the movie the cave was called Devil's kitchen as mentioned in the movie. The song also means a lot more than something that led to these events. In Guna, Kamal Hassan portrays a mentally ill person who believes a girl to be a goddess who will marry him, abducts her and hides her in this cave. Eventually she falls in love with him as well seeing how much he likes her and takes care of her (haven't watched the full movie but I beleive it to be based on Stockholm syndrome). The lyrics say "humans can't understand this love as it's above humanly love, it's divine. The same lyrics can be heard towards the end of the movie when they finally get Subhash out of the pit, suggesting this is not a normal friendship. There is no fear of death here, the friendship these guys have is something more, divine in fact, so much so that they will go to any lengths to rescue their friend.

Here is some director brilliance if you missed: 1. Subash asked the taxi driver that what is god? and he replied it is light coming from above at the time we need. Lated Kuttan (The saviour) came to Subash like a god with light from his headlight after fall 2. The belt subash took from his brother saved his life from falling all the way down. (The director told this in an interview)

wow, good that you managed to finally hint at a whole different layer to the movie that you completely missed, though as the "the part I liked the least"! That layer is part of the reason why the movie became such a big hit in Tamil Nadu as well. So it's a legendary song from the movie 'Guna' (the reason why the place is called Guna cave today). The song itself talks abt "love that's beyond understanding", the moment they play that part of the song when they come out of the cave is the absolute high of the movie. Add to that the connections they already established with them buying 'Kamal hits', and of course they decide to visit the cave after the song plays on the car and one friend suggests they should go there etc. The connections are important and integral to the movie is why the director starts the movie with that. You aren't expected to know all these but have some humility to at least wonder why a director does what he does, than just brushing it away as the, "part I liked the least" and "it visually doesn't tie into anything' etc!

32:13 The music video was the reason that they were intrigued to go the place. It's from an old film of kamal hassan named "guna" hence the name gunna cave since they shot the video song there(yes the actual guna cave where subash fell down but long ago). I seriously don't know how kamal hassan and the flim(approx 25+ people) went into that cave with heavy filming material(like lights, camera etc) and came out safely after filming a video song and also some more part of the movie near climax was in that cave.

The least connected part of the movie jaby said is the most connecting thing of whatever happened in the movie jaby.....because the song is featuring kamal hassan is from the movie GUNA which is the name of the caves they went to and the song and most of the film is shot inside the cave...The very reason majummel boys thought to explore guna is because of this song which was hit then...and which explored the guna caves beautifully....And at the climax of the movie the song is repeated when subash is rescued just like the movie...if you really notice the translation of the song you would get that.....and yes the song is a romantc song in GUNA movie...but in this movie we can also see it as a love song between friends...or FRIENDSHIP ANTHEM......And also I want you to react to the Guna song KANMANI ANBODU sepatately in your channel with subtitles so that you can clearly understand whats happening in the song and how itis connected to this movie.🙂

Now the point of the romantic song at the beginning is because the boys got the inspiration to travel to the guna caves from the same movie the song is in. Now, the song is from an old movie 'GUNA' which is primarily shot inside the guna caves and hence the name. It's actual name was 'Devil's Kitchen'.

The harrowing Guna Caves was first showcased in Kamal Hassan's movie with that very song. That movie is a very celebrated cult classic with its own fan following base. There are old interviews and new interviews of the crew lf that very movie explaining their personal experiences with the Guna caves. And the boys ventured the caves after it got popular from the cinema, but without much knowledge on what the caves are actually hiding..

The song was placed in the beginning of the movie as both a homage to the works of tamil cinema which is relevant to the story for a range of reasons. 1. Like Jaby said, its song that led the group to the cave. Its interesting because the group who approached the cave attributed that place to its romanticism and its lure. Not knowing that the cave is also a dangerous force of nature. 2. For those people who were introduced to this aspect of the cave, its assocation to the romanticism, as an ode for love, ( the music itself is iconic and speaks about the theme of a love that is beyond human comprehension and steps into teh realm of divine. ) it was also a layered deception. To relate to the events up until the cave disaster from a romantic and relaxed POV, contributing to how unprepared you were when the disaster happened. You just werent prepared for that. But its more than that. The depth of their friendship is what actually gets them out of the disaster at the end of the day. The story ultimately is about the resilience and depth and beauty of their friendship. And the song was an excellent way to both pay homage to tamil cinema, for its pop culture association of love and resilience that we asociate with that cave inspite of its terrifying sides. 3) Lastly, its true that jaby had no horse in the race. And that is totally understandeable. Just like i had no horse in the race when i watched Pulp fiction and Kill bill to its various references to American pop culture. Kill bill for example with its myriad of reference to hong kong action cinema was a source of big cluelessness to me. But it is there to make the movie better and richer. Whether we understand it or not at the moment. One can ofc make the choice to know more about that and that will definitely improve your experience each time you watch it. Like it did for me when i read up about these various references. So i hope this makes sense. Also please watch Bramayugam. Its a masterpiece.
