Brooks is, amazingly, still alive...he moved to Israel several years ago, getting back to his Jewish roots, I guess!..He did jam with Hendrix a few times, back in 1968, Brooks was the bass guy in Electric Flag. That group was a real pioneer act back then, featuring horns before other groups tried that out. One of the horn players was a white guy named Marcus Doubleday--he was from Seattle, my home town, and I recently found out, that he was married for a few years to a girl I had a crush on in Jr. High School!...Marcus fell into heroin abuse for many years, but managed to live into his early 60s. Marcus had been an important guy back in Seattle, in the early 1960s, when he was in a great local group, the Dynamics-one of the very best "NW Rock" sound folks.

Great video !........I listened to it closely and it wasn't the bass player who got lost, it was Hendrix. When Hendrix stopped soloing and went into the chord vamping, it was Jimi who missed the changes. At that point, the bass player should have stuck to the structure and let Hendrix catch back on , but instead he tried following what Hendrix was doing instead. That's the mistake he made.

@ManlaySound11 ай бұрын
I don't have a deep knowlege about that but as far as I know their tours were not greatly organized, they could be playing one night in L.A., next day in Canada, next day in Hawaii, next day in NY. My assumption is that it was not possible to ship easily all the equipment from town to town so maybe he could not use his Marshalls and had to rent Fenders (Marshalls were not readily available in the US by 1968-69). On some pitures he was using Sunn amps.
@curbozerboomer177310 ай бұрын
Jimi simply used the equipment that was onstage that day...He and buddy Miles had impulsively decided to show up for this loosely organized gig, in order to sort of make up for his poor performance two nights previously. BTW, the guitar he is using here, was a hybrid--Strat body, with a Telecaster neck!...It was a last minute repair job.
