I had never heard of Manly, until this weekend. When I had the knife (Patriot) in my hands, I knew it was a good knife! (I am a metalurgist myself), so I bought one and I am suprised by the quality. The craftmanship shines of this knife. After this vid I it looks to me that this is in the quality range of Helle and the other scandi knives. Keep up the good work. Cheers Ronald

A u know I've been there and everything I saw looked pretty good to me for sure. Europe certainly has some of the best steel in the world, but unfortunately the dominant market is still the USA and this is bolstered by the large social media force. The care and serious nature of the knifemakers in this factory blew me away-and why wouldn't they care? They all took their jobs very seriously. That video was completely un-staged as you can see, there were no "retakes" etc LOL. I had to exercise my skills (LOL) as a filmmaker (my real job BTW). I think they make great products and it has to have been the quickest ever purchase of a knife I can remember, when i bought a DRUGAR. In my hands for 5 minutes or less, then out wit the cash LOL, I was so impressed. It's a rare thing for me when it comes to buying stuff. Thanks for watching my stuff!

Well after my time there it was easy to see why. Small company wanting to make good their products. Staff were knife lovers and also knife makers in their own right too, not just working there for a wage. One can employ lots of image processing cameras on a production line checking for quality but at the end of the day the human eye is still used as a final check.

I just watched this video and am sorry that I recently just heard of Manly knives. I am a fixed blade collector and have many nice knives that have fetched prices from $50 to $400. I have two of the Crafters, one in Walnut the other in Black micarta, both D2 steel. I can say that they are every bit as good as the Bark River knives and at 1/3rd to 1/4 of the price. They are the best knives I own due to craftsmanship, quality, price, and design. I paid $65 in US money for them from a shop in Europe. I am looking to add others to my collection as soon as possible. Do yourself a favor and buy one or two! No one touches a Manly at those pries!

I don't know personally however, I would say that like any very popular knives and they def are (eg being even sold by Böker in Germany!) people will make fakes. My own experience with the couple of model I have and even looking at ones the other day in the shops, no way would they release some poorly made product. Hi this is not good to hear and I hope you contacted them about this. From what I saw in the factory (I filmed over 2 weeks there-no scripting and somewhat impromptu from me LOL) I only saw serious workmanship being undertaken at every step. @@BushCampingTools Hey, didnt expect an Answer! I'm from Germany. I am in no way against Manly, but I would consider their Quality ,,rustical"... Hi, I'm not so sure I can see the humour here. I worked with machine vision once and even if for example we look at such amazing assembly techniques as employed by say for example: Casio Japan, assembling some of their state of the art limited addition watches, the human eye is still one of the best methods for QC, especially for low volume runs. I also worked for a world leader in optics manufacturing and part of QC was also simply checking things by eye (not just the eye of course but with highly specialized machines and other optics but we are talking knife manufacturing here, not optics) If you can tell me a good example of even German technology where the human eye is not required at any step of QC then I'll laugh along with you. Thanks for watching and commenting. BTW are you an owner of any of their knives? Their folders are very well made.

cutting with a laser destroys the core of the steel,only water jet
@BushCampingTools5 жыл бұрын
I'm sure that depends upon many factors. Such as Kw; time, beam diameter; material thickness; type of steel material; cooling rates etc etc. Without serious analysis and microscopy of random samples, I would not personally suggest this is the case here (or any where). Higher accuracy can be had with the laser.
