I've just discovered your channel, great content I just subbed. I actually served with 3RAR for five years myself, we have a unit museum in Townsville if you ever find yourself in Australia. The P1907 bayonet was used initially during the Korean war however it was substituted for the shorter and handier Owen Mk1 bayonet later on. I'm a bit of a bayonet nut myself, I run a channel dedicated to them exclusively

3 RAR blunted the Chinese offensive at Kapyong. Absolute bastard of a battle.

Most of 3RAR were not issued heavy winter clothing (yet) and, during the big retreat, the entire battalion was able to outfit themselves with brand new US winter clothing from stores abandoned on the side of the road as they covered the retreat southwards with the Commonwealth Brigade. From memory, and I will look it up later tonight, that comes from an interview with a 3RAR Company Commander for the book: Korea, the Forgotten War.

That golden sand colour is a dead give away for Canadian web equipment.

Given the water bottle is in the middle, would it have been difficult to reach?

Not denting it so it leaks ( they dent easily and will leak as the seams split.... been there done that) is better than having to get a mate to get your Water bottle out of its carrier.

Spring 1951... specifically 24-25 Apr was the Battle of Kapyong. In which 3 RAR and 2 PPCLI (Canadian army) held off thousands upon thousands of Chinese in a heroic stand. This earned them both US Presidential Unit Citations. 2 PPCLI is the only unit in the CAF to ever be so honoured.

Great subject and clip, and well done ref your cold as stated. More of an observation, but I've only heard the hat here described as a 'Slouch Hat', and 'Hat Khaki Fur Felt" (Q-Store). I've only heard 'Bush Hat' being used for the smaller 'cotton' material (or similar) with a small brim depending on the uniform, being 'Jungle Green', DPCU (Disruptive Pattern Combat Uniform) and AMCU (Aust. Multicam Camouflage Uniform) - or more officially 'Hat Utility' (Q-Store). I've also heard the khaki 'wool jacket' being called a 'Bush Jacket'. I also believe the British 'Jungle Green' uniform worn in Burma was also called a 'Bush Jacket' as it was worn outside the trousers/not tucked in and it had a cloth belt. Recently I've started watching the comedy TV show 'It Aint Half Hot Mum' on KZbin set in India and Burma in 1945 and seeing the costume design for the uniforms with both Khaki Drill (light or sand colour) and 'Jungle Greens'. Great work. Kind regards from Australia.

Many Diggers also hat a Number 2 Slouch Hat, specifically a non-parade Slouch hat, puggaree mostly always removed, to wear out bush that was a bit battered and much loved but it was phased out in the late 80's when they brought out that absurd and short lived DPCU sombrero lol ;)

@@OldFellaDave Hi yes. I've also heard this 'bush' Slouch Hat being called a 'Grade 3' as when the Slouch Hat was reintroduced as Barracks Headress, brim down but with Puggaree and Corps/Unit Badge it was called a 'Grade 2' with the brim up for Ceremonial use being the 'Grade 1', of course this could also be the same literal Slouch Hat. Likely before then as you explained the 'bush' Grade 2 had the Puggaree and Badge removed for camouflage and no doubt it had that typical 'bush shape' that we see in the video, kind regards.
