Hello Heath. I am very impressed with this video. I have cleaned shafts and replaced tips on my own cues, but only a few times and by hand.... I don't have a lathe. But after watching you, I am inspired to try building a rig using my old dremel and a couple 2x4s. I subscribed and I'm sure I will learn a bunch. Thanks again for a great video.

22.55 left arm comes in contact with spinning headstock with long sleeves. I know this is not a powerful industral lathe but that is a big no no. I use the exactly same method when reconditioning a shaft and tip. That shaft sealer from cue components is some great stuff. Great video.

Thank You so much Heath! This is by far the best video of shaft maintenance I have ever seen. Maintaining a cue shaft is not for the timid especially on the higher end cues. I subbed to stay up to date. Randy

I'm impressed with your willingness to go into such detail about how you restore cues. I have to ask, though. I thought the container looked familiar and I saw your comment that it is available in automotive stores, so I would like to confirm directly: isn't that GOJO you're using?
@grahambambeck745211 жыл бұрын
Great video, thank you! I've been looking for cue lathes for a while but, they're pretty pricey. I just need something to re-tip and condition shafts... I've come up with an idea with Legos but, I need a stronger motor. This looks like a ton of fun to do! I'm falling in love with the idea of building and maintaining cues. Can't wait to have a setup of my own to at least help my team and some local folks out.

Great video Heath. I learned a lot! I'm back in the game and playing one handed pool mostly so I hope to minimize the blue stain! But I do need a new tip soon. JB Billiards of Bonney Lake WA will likely do that for me. They make some some excellent cues...I really like the way you do your video with the zoom and all. Keep up the great work!

Hi Daniel, This is not GOJO. I purchase my solution from Canadian Tire in Ontario Canada. The solution is made by Canadian Tire and not available in the USA. If your looking to purchase a cleaner I'd suggest going to you local automotive parts store and look for two main ingredients: Pumice and Lanolin. You want both and make sure its a none water base solution. Water is very bad for shafts. Hope this helps :)

Hi Heath, I want to thank you for taking your time to make this video. I am new in the business and this video has taught me more than the other videos I watched. Couple of questions please. 1. What kind of fish oil did you use to seal the ferrule and tip? Where can I purchase it? 2. You mentioned in the comments area that you are planning to do more videos; ferrules and phenolic tips. Do you still have plans for that?
@manningcues11 жыл бұрын
Morning Pete, The solution I use to seal the ferrule/Tip is called Speed Sealer 2 which is sold from cuecomponents . c o m. I still intend do create a video on replacing a ferrule and will try to do this in the future. To install a phenolic tip you would follow the same procedure as I completed in this video for the Moori Tip. Thanks for writing me and for your questions and comments. :)

Hi Minimizedtek, I appreciate your positive comment :) I wasn't aware that you seen all of my lathe work. I guess you feel that I only replace tips! I'd love to see you sand or taper a shaft by other means or replace a wrap or ferrule by hand. If you want a professional result you need professional equipment. I provide a professional service and receive equipment from players all over the USA and Canada each week. PS. My lathe was paid a long time ago. Stay positive and have fun :)

Great video, Heath. One of the best demonstrations out there! I have a question; I have a Predator 314/3 shaft that has the so-called V-Tec silencer pad on the end of the ferrule. Predator says the warranty will be void if this pad is worn away. That doesn't really concern me much, but I'd be interested to hear your opinion on whether it is really needed, other than to create an allegedly more pleasing sound when a ball is hit. Here is Predator's blurb: "Our proprietary blend creates a stronger and more tactile glueing surface, while creating an audibly pleasing sound upon contact with the ball." If this pad is eventually worn down/removed, do you think it will have any detrimental effect? I've been told that a good solution for a worn/missing silencer pad would be to put something like a Kamui clear tip on it, which as you know has a clear pad on the base. Is the V Tec silencer pad just advertising hype?
@manningcues8 жыл бұрын
Hi David, If we were to examine the construction of the 314-3 shaft we'd see the V-Tec Pad is not just for sound or looks. The v-tec pad caps off the tenon and runs inside the hollowed out front end of the shaft. This provides strength and security for the laminated spliced shaft pieces and achieves lower front end weight for even less deflection. If the Silencer pad wears away from changing tips it can and should be replaced. Have a great night David :)

Hi Health, You mention that you use shark oil to recondition the shaft. Can you elaborate on the shark oil and where to obtain it ?? Also, can you show & tell about the contraption up on the wall that looks like it holds ferrules and/or tips ?? Thanks, Lee
@manningcues10 жыл бұрын
Hi Lee, The shark oil is basically a cue shaft conditioner that can be purchased on my web site under accessories called Q-Glide. The contraption on my wall that is holding tips and ferrules and other items is basically an organizer for small items and can be purchased at Costco :) Thanks for the questions. Hope your enjoying my videos :)

what tool will you recommend to remove mushrooms there dont damage the ferrule, then you dont have a lathe.

Hi Tennezzee, The camera I use is called a Sony Handycam Model: HDR-CX110. I will soon be purchasing a Canon SLR Rebel T3i for a much better picture and clear audio. I have used super fine steal wool to smooth out a shaft as a temporary way to smooth the shaft out. However this will only smooth the shaft and will just push the oils and chalk dust into the poors of the wood. Thanks for the comment. Manning :)

Hi Aie, Thanks for your comment :) The machine is made by Joe Porper and sells for $4,295 USD. This price is just for the machine without all the tools & accessories needed to hold and work on the butt, shaft or tip. The total cost is closer to $5,000 USD by the time your done. If you would like your shafts re-tiped or cleaned you could always send me your shafts as many others have :) Manning.

Hi Heath, I can really say that this is the best video I've ever seen on the net about cue tip installation. Thank you a lot and Congratulations! I'm a rookie in this business and I have some questions. 1. Do you squeeze the white sponge or you just keep the alcohol on it? 2. I do not have Ultimate Tip Tool, is it okay if I use Shape side of the Cuetec Bow-Tie. 3. What is the content in the Orange Bottle? :) 4. I think you use both Tip Touch and Speed Sealer 2 for tip and ferrule but you use Speed Sealer 2 for shaft also, right? 5. I live in Turkey, so I can not provide those items you use. Last summer when I was in US, I had Q Glide, Q Clean, Q Slick and Cue Doctor Shaft Conditioner. Can I use any one of these instead of yours? 6. Can I polish the ferrule and the tip with leather conditioner cream and a piece of cloth ? Thanks.

The first solution is commonly used in the automotive industry. This cleaner is similar to the orange cleaner mechanics use to clean off their hands. The main reason why this works so well on cues is that the Cleaner contains no harsh chemicals, petroleum solvents, mineral oils that can harm your cue. The clean is Fortified with aloe, lanolin, jojoba and glycerin for added conditioning and protection. Waterless, petroleum solvent-free pumice cleaner. This will remove oils, chalk and other dirt..

Water is not good for wood :) You can find this product at any automotive store just read the label for the ingredients. You will love the results.
