The Airfix 1/48th Lightning is a great kit, and I had both a lot of fun building this and also rememberiing the times I shared with my father. I hope you enjoy the video as much!

This is a wonderful build, your father would be proud. I don't see late-90s-tooled Airfix kits get built much on KZbin, so this was a very fun watch indeed! Beautiful painting and nice little mods you made to add some extra detail to the kit. Very well done. :)

I really like this. A lot. I'm so glad you didn't go overboard with the weathering. No pre-shading, shading and not a ton of hogwash...I mean, pin washes. Some modelers just go to far. Your plane looks like the plane captain and crew did their jobs keeping it clean.

Great build and a lovely tribute! :) Ref PE pinging off.. Maybe a strip of masking tape behind it so that when a part is cut off it can't go anywhere because it's stuck to the tape? Yes please re a video on custom / DIY decals :)

Such an iconic British cold war jet. This makes me want to get back to doing some aircraft again after years of diverting into model railways with a friend and more recently getting back into miniature painting after over 25 years away (having recently moved it is much easier space wise).

Nicely understated finish there, especially for the Boss's jet. I've just dug my F1/2/3 out of the stash. Going to try and get it into the most typical Lightning pose ever: going vertical

Amazing work! My dad too got me into modelling. Our favourite was a Lancaster bomber we made together and hung from my bedroom ceiling with string. On a windy summers day, it sadly blew into the spinning blades of the rotary fan on the ceiling and exploded. Thankfully we were able to laugh about it but it was a sad day indeed.

I'm so glad I stumbled up this video. Not only was it lovely to watch, but it serves as a memorial/tribute to my dad, too, who passed nearly 20 years ago. He flew Lightnings during the late 60s/early 70s with 19 Sqn, sister squadron to 92 at RAF Gütersloh. I note your decal sheet had provision for a 19 Sqn model, which has convinced me to seek out this kit and make his exact aircraft. Wish me luck, and thank you for the video.

I was stationed at Gutersloh between early 1967 to February 1970 working as an armament fitter on 19 sqn Lightning 2As and Hunter FR10s of 2 and 4 sqns. 92sqn came to Gutersloh with their Lightnings in 1968 so much earlier than you say.

I think you've conflated what I was saying about John Mitchelll's tenure with when the squadron flew lightnings - I never said that 92 squadron only flew Lightnings during that period.
@Maxley.. Жыл бұрын
Forgive me for the random approach, but I've just seen your post. You wouldn't possibly remember Dick Leach? He flew Lightning D Delta for 19 Sqn during exactly this period. He always referred to the aeroplane as 'the Frightening' Thank you.

@@Maxley.. Sorry but can`t remember individuals now, it was so long ago. I do remember that Lightning pilots always likened their landings as controlled crashes. I went up in a T4 once and the ride was formidable, I believe the landing speed was something like 185knots. I became a member of the "Ten Ton Club" but some scroat pinched my club tie.

A really nice tribute to your dad . I built and dedicated my 1/48 Kinetic F104 Starfighter to the memory of my dad as he was Starfighter mad particularly the Belgian AF display duo ‘The Slivers’ . I managed to source some decals for a ‘Slivers’ Starfighter and was very happy with the result. Like you, my dad got me into airshows and models and unfortunately his last few years were blighted with dementia and the model build helped me to remember dad as he was in his heyday.

That is a gorgeous model and beautifully made, thank you for a great video. Just one very minor observation, and please tell me if I'm talking out of my backside but... the nav lights, shouldn't they be the other way round? Starboard is green and port is red so looking from tail to nose shouldn't it be green on the right wing and the red on the left?
