The funny thing about Manny blaming his inability to tie his shoes is that Greg already knew the real reason why Manny almost killed everyone. In the paragraph just above the one in 0:57 or page 204, it says, “When things got bad, Manny must’ve figured it was every man for himself. I think he would’ve let the rest of us freeze to death as long as HE had enough to survive.” In other words, Manny was most likely making up an excuse when he got caught red handed.

Also, it’s shown that when manny watches a TV show with an ineligible language/code, HE LEARNS IT AND SPEAKS IT. This is something most prodigies are incapable of. And he’s 3. This shows manny may have an IQ close to 200 (I’m not joking) and uses it for manipulation and getting what he wants. With many other demonstrations of intelligence he has the IQ of a god. Frankly I don’t think it’s too far fetched that fear plays a role in some actions of the Heffly family. Edit: Him remembering Greg doing something worthy of punishment and telling his parents later shows of incredible memory and sense of right and wrong for manipulation, we don’t know how long many had to wait to tell the parents that but it shows that he might have (And I know this seems far fetched) A disease that causes vital nutrients vitamins and energy to go directly to his brain before anything else, this explains his odd appearance which may be a side effect of malnutrition, him knowing what to say before he learns how to talk (as his brain developed faster then his vocal cords) and knowing what manipulation is possibly from seeing it out the window. If you've read the book, "The Last Straw", Greg said that when he and his brother were little, they were never allowed to bring things to church to keep the entertained, but with Manny, he's allowed to bring WHATEVER he wants to entertain himself. This is shown further by the illuistration below the writing. In the same book, he threw a MASSIVE fit over his sandwich being cut in HALF not in QUARTERS, which resulted in the people working there to call his mom from her work just to make the extra slice. Also, if you've read "Rodrick Rules", Greg says that his parents are SUPER protective of him, regardless of what he does (i.e stuffing a chocolate chip cookie into Greg's console and using the excuse "I'm only 3 and drawing his self-portrait on Greg's door in Sharpie) and the parents don't punish the kid, but on the same page, there's a drawing of him being kicked by Rodrick, which I'm assuming they never fully stopped, they just gave Rodrick a slap on the wrist and told him to stop. In another book, the mom implemented something called the "Tattle Turtle", in which she told both Greg and Rodrick that if you needed to tell on each other, tell this stuffed turtle. Greg wrote down that it worked GREAT for Rodrick, but not for him because he would be made to tell this stupid thing Rodrick's more SERIOUS acts, like shown in a drawing bellow the statement, with a drawing of Greg saying, "Tattle Turtle! Rodrick stole all of my money from the piggy bank!", while off to the side of Greg, Rodrick was standing with a smile on his face. SO the little to no punishment goes for both Manny AND Rodrick. His mom is lazy and playing favorites, and his dad is absent from most of his life and doesn't like the fact that Greg isn't a more masculine and tries to man him up, like what hid did in the book, "The Last Straw" where he saw that the worst teenager on the block, which they ran into the movie theater, had become whipped into shape and a true "man" in HIS eyes, and he told Greg that he was going to sign him up for the program the teen at the theater had gone to, Spag Union. Greg got out of this but only by accidentally something stupid and some birthday party for a neighboor's baby where the adults take turns acting rediculous to try to make the baby laugh. This is a really great video, it's cool how you went into depth about Manny’s character! Although Manny is only a little kid and cannot be a psychopath at this age, it's likely that he could grow up and become one if he keeps going down this path. He is treated as a king and gets what he wants, so he expects everything to be handed to him. Let's go to Greg. Although it's possible Greg could grow up to become a sociopath, some parts of the story hint that he is growing out of it and getting better. It is a bit unlikely that he will grow up to become a sociopath(soviopaths and psychopaths can only be diagnosed as that way when they are at least 18 and have developed enough character). To go into depth, Greg’s memories and times he’s had with the family has instilled some of his values. For example, Greg was bullied by Rodrick and saw where he was. In addition, Manny only made things worse. With this, Greg thought that in order to be at the top of the totem pole, you have to “earn it” in this way. However, Greg does have some redeeming qualities, such as crying and being extremely sad when he has to leave his friend Rowley. This shows that although he was a bad friend to Rowley, deep down he did care a bit for his buddy. And the way Greg writes shows that he may be hiding emotions at times so he can seem cooler, but in reality he is a deeper character than we think. Greg has also done a few other good things when he had the choice to be bad instead, such as that incident with Meemaw’s ring. Also, let’s be honest. Greg is very talented and makes very good drawings for his age, especially considering the fact he's only in middle school. He just needs to get on the right track and learn to be better. If Jeff Kinney did it, Greg Heffley can as well. Greg makes as good drawings as Jeff Kinney(the author and illustrator), so imagine where his skills could get him later. On the other hand, Manny makes drawings that are...quite concerning. And he has little to none redeeming qualities in the story, making him the worst character of the family. But he's only 3 so he’ll grow out of it....right? Edit: So yeah, great video on the dissection of Manny’s character!

I’m starting to think that after watched an animated version of the fanfic 25 Years Later where Susan has this exchange with Greg when he returns home on Fregley’s advice. This made me realize something else. (This isn't about Diary of a Wimpy Kid, or even books at all). So, I had this best friend that I'll call Beth. Beth started off nice, hanging out with my and my best friend (who I'll call El). Something I really should've noticed though was that most of my class found Beth annoying, and Beth said that 'all her past friends had been toxic or fake'. That should've been a red flag. Anyway, she was all nice but she started getting very different. First, we all made up a dance. And when I say 'we all' I mean Beth and El did most the dance and I would basically just watch. I felt a little left out and told them that. El (who I've been friends with for 6 years) agreed and asked Beth if either I could join, or we could change the dance to make it suitable for all 3 of us. Beth said no. I sometimes teased El, but I knew she didn't get offended. El knew that whenever I teased her, I was just joking and I wasn't being rude. El never asked me to stop, and she never showed any signs of being hurt by what I said. Beth decided to get all annoyed whenever I teased El. She got really angry and plain rude. We started arguing about it, and here's another red flag. Beth was a very aggressive, violent girl. After our arguments, I would stay far away from her because I was honestly frightened of what she might do. Eventually, our arguments happened every day. And every day, although I was keeping my distance, she would come over to me and always say (in a dumb baby voice): '-My name- I'm sowwy :c' And she would hug me while doing that. One time I shrugged her off after a really bad argument, and she said 'I feel like you don't wanna be my fwiend anymowe 🥺'. I was so tempted to say 'You're right' but I didn't. I wish I did. Then, we had yet another argument. (This all happened at school, at break / lunch). I was just walking around, keeping my distance and I glanced over at her. She was glaring at me, watching me walk around. I glared right back and kept walking. I looked over again, and she was still watching me. I got really freaked out. This happened again one more time, but after that, she stopped. At this point, I told my family and another close friend. Thank goodness I had that close friend, because soon enough, Beth just stopped acting like I existed. Whenever me, her, and El were chatting, me and El were trying our very hardest to include me. I felt replaced and super upset. But that close friend was always there for me. I stayed with her, as she was often alone too. She let me vent to her about Beth, and always helped cheer me up. She became my new best friend. When I spoke to another friend though, she said that 'El was allowed to have friends other than me' which made things worse. I knew that. I just don't want her to be stuck with a toxic, lying, fake friend. One day, things got so much harder. I was wearing one of those hats with the strings that you tie around your chin. I was joking around with El, and Beth decided that it was so offensive that she grabbed the strings of my hat, and pulled as hard as she could. She looked furious, she was shaking because of how hard she was pulling and her hands were right out to the sides. El saw it all. She stood there like a deer in headlights. I managed to pull the hat off, and I ran for my life. Later, (since I wouldn't let Beth come near me) El told me that Beth said it was 'just a joke'. As if. I told the school, and Beth wasn't allowed near me for a week. The next day, Beth came up to me and said 'Im sowwy, I was angwy..' But I ignored her. I stayed far away, and on the very rare occasions that Beth even wanted to talk to El, (which was often when her other friend was busy) I would go to my other close friend. Recently, we've all ended up hanging out again. Beth made the excuse of 'Oh yeah, I wasn't even trying to strangle you. I was trying to take your hat and my hands slipped.' As if. Beth's been fine since then, but one day I was speaking to El about her for whatever reason, and we started getting annoyed at each other. In El's words: 'It's more likely that she was trying to take your hat and her hands slipped than her trying to (uhh, how do I put this..) unalive you!' I told her 'Fine, believe the girl you've been friends with for about a year over your best friend of 6 years! Don't come crying when she ends up betraying you too!' but that was basically forgotten the next day. Anyways, a few weeks later (not even that long ago) I was making a joke about her crush (we were all doing a huge play, and in it he stole her character's wig) so me and El started calling him 'Margaret Thatcher the Weave Snatcher'. She didn't seem to mind when El said it, but when I said it, she turned to me with and said to me (while glaring at me) 'If you say that again, I'll punch you.' Yeah, no, I left. She's been all friendly since then, but I'm scared that she'll try the same thing again. Anyways, listening to the common traits of a psychopath, let me make a little list. 'Frequently faking emotions' - Yep, I'm pretty sure she was only pretending to be sorry. And it happened every day. 'Intelligent' - I think so. She claimed to have a lot going on at home, or to be really stressed out, or that me and El were her only friends. She always brought that up whenever we argued, and I think she was trying to guilt trip me. 'Lack of morality' - Yes, yes, yes. 'Manipulative' - Absolutely. She knew how passive El was, and I believe she took advantage of that. So I'm pretty sure my ex-best friend is a psychopath. (Yayy, fun..) Also that joke that made her strangle me? Easy. I was shipping El with the Duolingo bird. Also, some extra red flags: Her younger sister called her scary (alright, her little sister is very young to be fair.) I think her mum called her crazy (yep, makes sense). Another kid in my class called her a psychopath. (Probably not wrong). If anyone has advice, please tell me!
