I think what separated manny from the rest of the elite boxers, was that his fundamentals where different.. the movements he does are what "boxing 101" coaches would tell you is wrong.. but manny dances to the beat of his own drum, and he made it work big time.

That's what make fighters...fighters, in my opinion. Learn the basics, learn all the techniques you can and do what is unique to your own musclskeletal build and what makes you feel confident. Just don't do backflips during a match

@@trcs3079 haha yeah man. i agree.. but i think manny has somewhat "unsafe" fundamentals as far as his lack of conventional defense.... but this was also the key to how he was able to throw multiple bombs at high speed because his hands are often sitting down low at an angle... its weird, but its also fun to watch and he proved it worked for him and his style of fighting

It's because exactly of this reason too, how he breaks the rules. Manny does what Lomachenko and Usyk became known for which is he throws a ton of arm punches off one foot while transitioning the difference is Manny is so freakish he is still able to get torque and snap on arm punches.

Added facts: 1. Pac is actually ambidexterous but chose the southpaw stance (probably, so he can have slight advantage against orthodox stances in terms of experience since majority of us are right-handed). 2. His wrist size is 8". Same wrist size to Mike Tyson's. Definitely the reason why he's still power-puncher even when stepping up above his natural weight class. (And probably the reason why he can still toe-to-toe and intimidate bigger boxers like Margarito & Mosley) 3. He's not good at swimming, probably the reason why he become "overtrained" and experienced "leg cramps" since when he fought Mosley. (Instead of running everyday. I think many boxers used swimming as a form of active recovery so the joints and muscles would recover faster, and also considered as "therapeutic").

The reason behind manny breaking all those rules is because he never had a formal boxing foundation, most boxers learn the basics from their boxer fathers on inside boxing gyms. Manny never had the luxury, so he relied on his skills and god given talent, curated by his skillful coach and became who he is now.

He does this looking like running to your direction covering the whole ring that's why when he starts with this and you choose to dodge backpedal you're dead. @@rodsonvale5933 Yeah you're right 2 steps or maybe even 3 steps back isn't enough the way he charges on you. Seems reckless at first but when you see the way he times the shots with his footwork plus shuffling between head and body targets it just looks ridiculous really I don't see any boxer past or present do this the way Pac does. I think this combo needs to be named after him lol. He achieved this because of his handspeed and the fact that he doesn't need to properly setup his torso and feet when throwing punches. Pacquiao boxing style is very awkward and uglies style in boxing, but it's very insane because that is unpredictable bro by your opponent, imagine bro you're throwing a left hand punch while your front is left too then jump to another good angle to throw alot of combinations. That boxing style is breaking the rule of boxing 101 😂 specially Manny Pacquiao fake punches and akward footwork, if you're a boxer you're alwaysly see your opponent foot, ordinary boxer that having a proper training is predictable bro like if they throw a punches if their front foot is right offcourse he throw left if he's front foot is left offcouse he throw right, but Manny Pacquiao is not you will be fool by he's footwork and fake punches very unpredictable.

if manny stayed at a more manageable weight class say 135, he would have remained undefeated on this weight class. Sure he fights at his walking weight now but other fighters are actually much heavier and bigger than him. Doing this for years actually was mind boggling not to say the least. He was barely 5'6 going against guys who were 5'9 or taller so you can expect as he grows older the speed, especially on those feet will be degraded. He lost to Ugas because he was not as agile as before, his footwork was stale tho he still has some hand speed. The combinations that you showed while moving laterally, he barely did on his last fight. Still kudos to him for a great career, I only wished that he stayed at 130-135.
@skilex3573
@skilex3573 Жыл бұрын
Been saying that. He don't rehydrate like his big welter opponents who goes 150-160 fight night. Even Tank at 135 rehydrates to 146 or more without clause, but he's fighting at 135. Pac is basically like Tank but in welter. If Pac fights at 135 and rehydrated to 148, it would be easier.

Nice! I've noticed him punching off one leg in the past, but didn't notice the handcuff thing. The way I see it, the "rules" give you max power and stability in each punch (and therefore safety, you can defend well from that position). Manny's sacrificing that for the strategic advantage he gets in the new position. It's not as powerful, but that rear punch has a lot of bodyweight behind it, it's not like his opponents can just shrug it off like it's nothing. It's not as safe in a "I can block your counters" way, but it's essentially a distraction+timing+evasion kind of defensive maneuver built into the move.

They always tell u that u have to plant both feet to sit down on your punches. When PacMan shadow box, you’ll see that he moves his feet with every punch & is still able to generate a lot of power. I think famous boxer Ricardo Lopez also did the same thing, landing punches while on his front foot. It allowed him to shoot forward like an arrow and jab his opponent at a range that was further than a traditional jab. The unconventional range and speed of it would catch opponents off guard. It had to be set up though. And it also required defensive responsibility during and after the strike. In other words, the lack of form is not something beneficial for the average boxer but something an exceptional boxer could take advantage of.

It's an old school way of practicing defence. Classic Boxers was taught to touch their nose with their gloves everytime. It is was reminder to "keep their hands up" and protect themselves at all times even on offensive attacks. Yet again, Manny modified this trick by touching his head instead. I reckon he was doing "touch your nose" frequently until he faced Morales. He was caught by El Terrible while doing that. There is a fraction of a second that you are vulnerable to an attack since it can block your vision while doing it. I noticed he began "touching his head" routine after that.

what makes manny special is his ability to do those moves but at high speed. anybody can study manny’s combo and incorporate it in their style, but only a few can actually move as quick. perfect example is mike tyson in his prime. so many emulate tyson’s movement but I have yet to see anyone actually deliver the shots with such speed and power.

Pacquiao for me is not only the greatest boxer of a generation but one of the greatest of all time - he showed that adaptability evident in the greatest but combined it with a will to win rarely seen. Two moments in his career that stick out in my mind - 1. his loss to Morales showed everyone what he was made of. 2. When he started using his right hand when his left was still devastating. I remember first seeing him beat Barrera thinking Bruce Lee is alive!

Love this breakdown and after going through his fights both mentally and rewatching it rings true! The one time his style got him in trouble was against Marquez after 100 rematches lol. However, Manny was continuously stepping in with this lead jab and I'm not sure if Marquez read it perfectly or just had a lucky guess. The combos and style you're displaying here clearly seem much safer as you're not going forward directly towards your opponent. Do you think Manny just got cocky that he was pretty much dominating by the time he got KO'd? Either way, great analysis love your content!

Marquez figured out already how to time Manny with his jab feint 1 2 combo. It was at the feint when Marquez came in with a knockout punch. After that fight we never saw Manny do the same move again. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2rUdWmNpMqNgas

It was when Marquez step on pac's lead foot that makes that counter perfect. If Marquez didn't step on PACs lead foot it might not be KO, because he can slightly push back his body with that lead foot to lessen the impact of Marquez's counter.

@@ShefortheStre That tends to be Manny's problem, impatience. I love his style it's in my top5 faves but he keeps getting countered whenever he gets impatient. One of the reasons why Ugas won, Pac really wanted to fire it out. Still, I love Manny's style 🔥🔥🔥

On that third technique I think that one of the things that you're missing out of it (i'm no expert i'm just a fan so take this comment as you will). His defensive posture isn't typical in that his back hand isn't near his face and lead slightly elongated. Rather, they're both elongated, like from his shoulder to his elbow in front of his body and forearms slightly angled in a 30 degree down or straight up and down from toe to ceiling. What you're saying in that third technique makes sense to me now if you put that in with his arm posture so that it's also in a position where he can already shoot shots off and he doesn't have to cock his rear hand back. Unless he's fighting from a distance (which later on his career he typically did) and was trying to counter you, he usually had a normal defensive posture (rear to the face yada yada) and so when he closed the gap he could add more velocity onto the rear punch. When he sits down on his punches and flurries like in the margarito fight, or with keith, he definitely incorporated that in.
