I think what separated manny from the rest of the elite boxers, was that his fundamentals where different.. the movements he does are what "boxing 101" coaches would tell you is wrong.. but manny dances to the beat of his own drum, and he made it work big time.

The reason behind manny breaking all those rules is because he never had a formal boxing foundation, most boxers learn the basics from their boxer fathers on inside boxing gyms. Added facts: 1. Pac is actually ambidexterous but chose the southpaw stance (probably, so he can have slight advantage against orthodox stances in terms of experience since majority of us are right-handed). 2. His wrist size is 8". Same wrist size to Mike Tyson's. Definitely the reason why he's still power-puncher even when stepping up above his natural weight class. (And probably the reason why he can still toe-to-toe and intimidate bigger boxers like Margarito & Mosley) 3. He's not good at swimming, probably the reason why he become "overtrained" and experienced "leg cramps" since when he fought Mosley. (Instead of running everyday. I think many boxers used swimming as a form of active recovery so the joints and muscles would recover faster, and also considered as "therapeutic").

That boxing style is breaking the rule of boxing 101 😂 specially Manny Pacquiao fake punches and akward footwork, if you're a boxer you're alwaysly see your opponent foot, ordinary boxer that having a proper training is predictable bro like if they throw a punches if their front foot is right offcourse he throw left if he's front foot is left offcouse he throw right, but Manny Pacquiao is not you will be fool by he's footwork and fake punches very unpredictable.

Pacquiao for me is not only the greatest boxer of a generation but one of the greatest of all time - he showed that adaptability evident in the greatest but combined it with a will to win rarely seen. Two moments in his career that stick out in my mind - 1. his loss to Morales showed everyone what he was made of. 2. When he started using his right hand when his left was still devastating. I remember first seeing him beat Barrera thinking Bruce Lee is alive!
@otokhan96793 жыл бұрын
if manny stayed at a more manageable weight class say 135, he would have remained undefeated on this weight class. Sure he fights at his walking weight now but other fighters are actually much heavier and bigger than him. Doing this for years actually was mind boggling not to say the least. He was barely 5'6 going against guys who were 5'9 or taller so you can expect as he grows older the speed, especially on those feet will be degraded. He lost to Ugas because he was not as agile as before, his footwork was stale tho he still has some hand speed. The combinations that you showed while moving laterally, he barely did on his last fight. Still kudos to him for a great career, I only wished that he stayed at 130-135.
@skilex3573 Жыл бұрын
Been saying that. He don't rehydrate like his big welter opponents who goes 150-160 fight night. Even Tank at 135 rehydrates to 146 or more without clause, but he's fighting at 135. Pac is basically like Tank but in welter. If Pac fights at 135 and rehydrated to 148, it would be easier.

@punypufferman1802 жыл бұрын
Don't forget about Manny's physicality as well; he got calves the size of thigh muscles which is probably how he manages to keep balanced and still have power throwing combinations on one foot
@TF_NowWithExtraCharacters3 жыл бұрын
Nice! I've noticed him punching off one leg in the past, but didn't notice the handcuff thing. The way I see it, the "rules" give you max power and stability in each punch (and therefore safety, you can defend well from that position). Manny's sacrificing that for the strategic advantage he gets in the new position. It's not as powerful, but that rear punch has a lot of bodyweight behind it, it's not like his opponents can just shrug it off like it's nothing. It's not as safe in a "I can block your counters" way, but it's essentially a distraction+timing+evasion kind of defensive maneuver built into the move.

Im glad you added the tap the gloves together before the combos, theyre essential to the effectiveness of the combo
@shaunpearce68463 жыл бұрын
I think famous boxer Ricardo Lopez also did the same thing, landing punches while on his front foot. It allowed him to shoot forward like an arrow and jab his opponent at a range that was further than a traditional jab. The unconventional range and speed of it would catch opponents off guard. It had to be set up though. And it also required defensive responsibility during and after the strike. In other words, the lack of form is not something beneficial for the average boxer but something an exceptional boxer could take advantage of.

They always tell u that u have to plant both feet to sit down on your punches. When PacMan shadow box, you’ll see that he moves his feet with every punch & is still able to generate a lot of power. His back foot would often lift off the ground also bc he was an in & out fighter. So he would often lunge into a lot of his punches
@brd48693 жыл бұрын
what makes manny special is his ability to do those moves but at high speed. anybody can study manny’s combo and incorporate it in their style, but only a few can actually move as quick. perfect example is mike tyson in his prime. so many emulate tyson’s movement but I have yet to see anyone actually deliver the shots with such speed and power.

Watch before every single combo during mitts. No one seems to talk about that

It's an old school way of practicing defence. Classic Boxers was taught to touch their nose with their gloves everytime. It is was reminder to "keep their hands up" and protect themselves at all times even on offensive attacks. Yet again, Manny modified this trick by touching his head instead. I reckon he was doing "touch your nose" frequently until he faced Morales. He was caught by El Terrible while doing that. There is a fraction of a second that you are vulnerable to an attack since it can block your vision while doing it. I noticed he began "touching his head" routine after that.

I think for the last part, some would say is bad foot work cause it opens up the person throwing the punch to be unbalanced making it like he's allowing his body to follow through with his punches without hitting the brakes, and what could be worse is when he'd have the tendency to drop his arms after throwing the punches leaving him open to counter punches. But hey, not everything is textbook right? Pacman is just the kind of guy to make this work to his advantage because of his speed and style. I'm proud of Manny and everything that he has done in his career as a boxer. Wishing him a happy and healthy retirement!
