The way the director stayed behind is interesting to me. It does not seem that he was sacrificing himself for anything in particular, like he did not seem to need to stay behind in order to protect anything or anyone else. Maybe he just could not bear to go on after watching the whole world devastated in such a way. I am reminded of a set of stories I read on Reddit. Someone asked for folks who were on Hawaii when the false ballistic missile warning went out to tell their stories about what that moment was like for them, what they did when they thought that there was a missile, and whether or not they regretted it later. One guy mentioned how he and his friend were both working at a hotel. On receiving the alarm, they scrambled as quickly as they could to get everyone that they could into a basement shelter. Then, they had a choice to make, whether or not to join them in the shelter. They thought about it, and decided that they would rather be vaporized and be remembered as heroes than to have to struggle in the wreckage of a post-apocalyptic world that had been thrown into the chaos and devastation of a global thermonuclear war, so they told everyone in the shelter that they were going to go out to look for other people to bring to shelter, and then they went out to a nice field to watch the ocean as they waited for the end. The director in this video reminds me of that. Perhaps he feels that he is old enough and accustomed enough to the pleasant life that he was lucky to have up to that point, that he could not see the point in struggling against such oppressive force. Youngsters are more resilient, more driven to survive no matter the cost. As focused and collected as he was in assessing the situation, perhaps he just gave up. Chilling.

I had never heard a song that gave me chills until I was watching the full musical, and this came on. Both the beginning chant of "Lavos", and close to the end the slowly building "we remain". SO good, one of the best songs in the entire musical. It has such a feeling of inevitable dread. It is not terror, but a sense of events unfolding before your eyes which you are unable to affect, and can do nothing but watch

Juno Son - Well, brilliant work then. I think the horror of this moment is lost in the actual game due to the limited graphical capabilities of the SNES and the Nintendo DS. But the artwork here, shows the terror and despair of each and every innocent person who died horribly. The image of the child dead in their mother's arms was a stroke of evil genius even before I realized who it was. Well played Juno, well played indeed. Keep up the good work!

When I saw the preview I was so hyped I could barely sleep. And woah. Just woah. When the auditions started, I was skeptical that the way you were planning on creating Lavos' voice wouldn't work all that well. But it DOES, it gives me so many chills! The artwork is heartbreaking, and that piece of Lavos... dang, good job capturing his likeness... the art perfectly fits the mood of the song... and the world ending as we know it. And all in all, this song really does give that perfect feeling of lost hope and inevitability. Also the fact that I can hear Uprising's Schala in there is so fitting and clever, it makes me want to cry so much, it's a nice little preview of her appearance to come x3

HOLY MOTHER OF LAVOS WHERE TO BEGIN ON THIS ONE Loved those voice lines from the workers at the beginning. They work really well to establish the scene before Lavos crashes the party (every party needs a pooper and that's why we invited you) AND HOLY JEEZ, LAVOS THOUGH The triple voice thing works phenomenally well, layering on thick the sense of the literal embodiment of chaos descending on Guardia. Again, the art is so brilliant in that it not only displays a scene, but conveys it's emotion so powerfully I want to leap into the screen and intervene for the second song in a row. That Frisk cameo is relatively well hidden and I love it XD Overall a chilling, dramatic, epic theme for such as deserving moment. KUDOSSSS

"There's no time" That statement always hit me hard, considering it's a game about time travel.

OH MY GOSH YOU WORKED IN THE LAVOS CRY I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!!! ...What? I feel it is easily the most unique vocalization ever coded into a video game. I'm kind of obsessed with that noise. The triple layered voice for Lavos also worked perfectly with it so YAY!!!! I...may have been eagerly hoping this would be one of the songs and it was SO MUCH BETTER than I could have ever anticipated!!! So much happy right now.... Wait... Does this mean....that the final battle will have Crono and company singing WITH Lavos?! .....I seriously hope so.... That would be awesome.... SONG BATTLE!!!! Now that I've got my massive geek out vented from my system I can try to be a bit more analytical. So....where to begin. That's a tough one. Hm...perhaps the artwork. Put simply, it's impressive. Starting with the pieces with the operators and the director, I like how calm the first one is. The two operators just chatting casually while the director is holding a cup of coffee and smiling at their conversation. It feels nice and peaceful. Like nothing could go wrong. Tone is completely different in the following one! You can tell they are scared and confused, but are still trying to be professional as they attempt to work out what the heck is happening. First drawing of Lavos.... In a word: terrifying. Neither its overworld sprite or battle sprite are all that frightening in the game. Weird looking, yes. Scary, not so much. But this drawing....holy hell that thing is CREEPY! I think its the red lighting that does it. Something about it just makes things more intimidating. Then we get images of all the destruction going on. The broken plane and train tracks kind of reminded me of parts of the Tower of Geddon from Chrono Cross.... That was a chilling location.... The still frames of devastation here have a similar effect. It really feels like I'm watching the end of the world, so great job there! You captured the moment perfectly! And, yes, I did catch the bit with the kid who looks like Frisk. Kind of hard to miss. Glad you're having fun slipping in these little Easter Eggs. And that last shot of Lavos with its beak gaping....yipe.... You scary, Lavos. You very scary. And finally, the last two shots of the operators and director. Much more emotional than what we got in the game, but I expect facial expressions have a lot to do with that. Also it's really hard to get a sense of panicked flight from sprites with a set movement speed. And the final collapse of the command center or whatever that place was.....wow..... The art provided a nice base for the tone of this segment! Now to the next bit....the music! If Lavos' picture was frightening, then the ensemble singing voice you stuck it with is the level of scary that makes me want to curl up in a corner of my closet and burrow into a pile of pillows and fuzzy blankets. Or drive across the state and cling to my mom. And the lyrics were just so....doomy. I can't say they were threatening, though there was a fair bit of menace, so much as they carried a weight of hopeless inevitability. "This is the end. There is no escape. Now die." That's the feeling I got from these lyrics. Finally, the dialogue. Calm and casual. Confused, a bit scared, yet still trying to be professional. Mounting horror. Mortal terror. I believe that sums up the presentation of the dialogue. It's been a while since I played the game, so I can't remember how much of this is from the game's script and how much is original. Not sure it matters, though, because the overall effect only heightens the sense of horror. It works in context. To me, that's the important thing. Putting all the bits back together as a whole, and the effect is - and I realize I am repeating words here - both chilling and horrifying. Certainly puts the reactions from both Lucca and Marle in the 'Chrono Trigger' song clip into context. That is going to be an interesting transition to watch when it is all put together. We go from this...to Crono's defiant and triumphant declaration that they will change fate in song form. .....I am looking forwards to the completion of this project even more now.... This was amazing. You all are amazing. I could seriously tackle Alex's legs and start crying 'thank you' over and over at this point. And, yes, this is a thing I would do because I have no shame.

I'm am absolutely speechless at this. Honestly, wow! The deep, demonic voices of Lavos compared with the high and shrill voices of those in the chorus, and the contrast between the casual every day talk and then complete panic at a sudden earthquake, and then Tom's solemn acceptance while Emmy and Loke are practically begging him to come. This entire thing was perfect with how you all sounded and how it really did look like the end of the world, the art was perfect!!! Kudos to those who drew, haven't finished the credits yet, sorry. But wow!!! This is so good and I loved your voices, absolutely blown away by this. E: Juno!!! The art you drew was perfect, but so sad and I loved it!!! And how the heck did I forget Sym and Chi? Gosh, the way you guys were so curious and then bam! the end of the world. It was so wonderful!!! Chrono Trigger has been one of my favorite games of all time since I played it in middle school and anytime I see you guys upload a new part of this musical my heart fills with joy. There's so much raw passion and love put it into and it's made me go back and replay it. well from what i understood lynx killed all when they were kids, but its really weird since that lvl 99 cast pretty much defeated lavos, and the cast of chrono cross only can "defeat" the time devourer in a certain way.

Eh? I thought Dalton was sent through time to around 1005 AD and got possessed by the Masamune and lead and army to conquer Guardia. The Lynx killing children thing was around 1015 AD, so Lucca would've been an adult and raising Kid. Though, again, how all three of them could perish when they can defeat Lavos is a mystery.

Sans helped loan some ketchup and taught them how to look dead for the part. He wished that HE could have gotten that role and swapped places with Frisk, but Mettaton thought a bloody skeleton would look too goofy for the part, so Sans is wearing a suit and playing Robo instead. He's doing a darn good job of it, too. Mettaton, meanwhile, is having a blast as one of the three voices for Lavos, alongside some of the old chorus members.

When the "Lavos!" started, chills ran down my spine and didn't stop. That voice that was given to Lavos -- I can tell it's multiple voices, and that serves to make it much more eerie and unearthly, as it should be. The desperation that the people felt when they realized everything was being destroyed, the way everything burned, caught perfectly in both the voices and the artwork. Gods. This is one of my favorites of the Musical, now.

it sound the perfect amount of inhuman, like every everytime i listen the first word doesent feel like a real world before my brain settles into understanding the lyrics, so it makes it seem like a truly alien creatures attempt to mimic human speech

I am literally in tears right now. This theme is one of only two pieces from games that truly scared me as a kid, and from the first notes, I was a little kid again, struggling to defeat the most basic monsters when this shows up. The stakes seemed so dire, probably because you're in no way ready for that final boss fight. You guys really nailed this one out of the park. The triple voice setup for Lavos is completely genius, and the vocalists all brought something unique and ... necessary to the part. It was weird and alien and haunting, but almost ... relatable. The voice I hear inside my head that tells me I'm no good, or that I hear over top of mine when I'm scared and angry and just want people to leave me alone.

To be honest, after being really nervous about their lines in the last musical, Frisk really wanted a nice musical number, but Mettaton couldn't find a good spot for them, so they got a bit part. Sans helped with the practical application of ketchup and taught them how to look dead (he's a professional, he says). He wanted to trade roles, but everyone agreed that Alex cradling a bloody skeleton would ruin the mood, so he wound up wearing a costume and playing Robo. Mettaton, meanwhile, is loving his role as one of Lavos' voices. The inside of the prop is a little hot for the former chorus members he's partnered with, but he's enjoying his ability to steal the show!

This captures the feelings really well for what it does and how little we see in game. The dead Frisk was clever and I admittedly didn't catch for a few watches... And 10/10 to the screamy boi that was glorious. All around 10/10 great job. Edit: A friend brought to my attention that the individual holding Frisk looks like the art we always see of Alex.

I know suspension of disbelief is in play in a musical, but I have to wonder what was going through the minds of everyone when an eldritch abomination burst up through the ground to eat/burn them all.... and begins to sing about it.

One of the main conceits of a musical is that song does not only happen in joyous or happy moments--but people burst into song when words and actions alone can not express what needs to be said or done. If you think of it in this way, emotions and events that happen as the world ends would certainly qualify for the heightened emotions and reactions that leave there no other option than for song to occur. I know Alex talks about this and other song-writing information/mechanics in his recent "How do I write lyrics" video. You should check it out if you're interested!
