Congratulations on your lovely new/old house. The foyer, or hall d'entrée is just that. It's not a salon, but is used as an entertainment space. The double rooms with the archway (now closed) would be your grande salon. That wave motif on the archway is called guilloche. The two portrait rondels on the fireplace in the foyer are probably the owner-builders of that section of the chateau. That's terrazzo flooring in the entrance hall. The "chest of drawers" is Italian, not French. It serves as a sort of semainier, only it has 9 drawers instead of 7. Used for lingerie and socks. Before you take down the wallpaper in the hall d'entrée, please live with it for a while. It suits the space, and may be old and/or valuable. The whole house looks eminently livable, and lovely. Great kitchen, too. I'm so happy that you found such a great place to settle. I'm sort of an encyclopedia of French living, so please feel free to ask me anything that puzzles you. Thanks so much for the tour!

Steve and Sarah, your chateau is gorgeous!!! Thank you for the tour. While not turn key, it is certainly livable. As a historic home owner (1880 Folk Victoria), I had 3 observations. First, I believe your staircase may be considered a floating staircase. Second, I would tackle those vines as soon as I could. Those can quickly become problematic. Third, you can get a liquid product from Amazon called Wet and Forget. The concrete cleaner will take all the algae off your balcony’s and outside walls. 2 applications a year should do the job. And lastly, Bona (also from Amazon) is a great product to use on your hard wood floors. Again, congratulations and thanks for the tour.
