Such an underrated style. I love the thought behind the movements as he explains them. The concepts are great for combat and can be seen in several styles, not just Chinese Kung Fu. Very interesting.

The Mantis is renown for its speed and explosive power. Master Zhou is really good, a true "Master".

I enjoyed this. As someone who once practiced 7* religiously, I’d never known of striking the eyes during the “catches cicada” movement. That seems way more dynamic, and you get a strike in rather than just giving up two hands for one limb (y)

Even so you see clearly his hooking hands, the characteristic of how he moves his arms reminds me more on monkey fist. But I think monkey fist is also a part of Tang Lang.

Monkey is indeed one of the 18 “ancestors” that Mantis is comprised of.
@BaritoneUkeBeast4Life4 жыл бұрын
In northern praying mantis styles the footwork used is based on the movement of the monkey. But I have to admit after seeing this amazing high level master in action that his arm movements do look and share a lot in common with the monkey-style hand techniques that are used in traditional monkey styles.

theres a hong kong documentary series that traced the origins of karate to the crane style... think the series was called kung fu oddysey or martial arts oddysey or somehing like that it was an awesome series.... i think its on youtube... theres also a great japanese channel on yt, obi kurobi or something thats sort of reverse and its the japanese masters tracing martial arts... and theres a japanese wushu or kung fu master who is awesome... i dont understand japanese but its fascinating how he shows his fellow country men how moves have evolved or different

Taiji Mantis is interesting, very different from Hong Kong's 7 star I learned. I feel a bit of Tongbei in your shenfa, do they have any connection?
@MonkeyStealsPeach4 жыл бұрын
As a style moves away from its place of origin its only natural it will undergo changes. Both Mantis and Tongbei are popular styles in the region, so its only natural they would have a similar flavour.

he looks like 70s 80s... its in the genes lol... if youve had the pleasure to meet masters then you will understand what a master means in the east... they are ancient and you know old man strength and speed.... the caricatures of little old yoda guy is all true... it makes sense in the east anyway that a master is wisened and ancient by definition... i would be sceptical if he master was a 20 yr old heck even 40yr old

Because they are part of what is called Intangible Cultural Treasures and because of that they need to be respected and understood for what they are. Fighting in a ring is of course another matter.
