I went with a 55 lb Mantus anchor in 2018 after watching all of your test videos (Spade was a bit too pricey), and have never regretted the purchase. In Bahamian squalls where boats all around were dragging, mine was rock solid. I can't recommend the Mantus anchor highly enough. Thanks again for all of your anchor test videos!

Great video. I have been considering a mantus anchor for a long time, but now with your videos I think it's settled. Thanks for your efforts. Question: What would you base your anchor size off of? Is weight or windage a more important factor? The manufacturers have the length of the boat as a factor but that seems kind of irrelevant to me. There could be radical differences in weight and windage for a given hull size.

My 2020 Mantus M1 35 lb galvanized anchor is my primary and has been in daily use for almost a year and a half in a tidal zone with modest river current as well in a southwest Florida harbor with some fetch through all manner of weather. I am a single hand live aboard on a 1983 Hunter 31 hull #58. It is a far better anchor than any i have used in 30 plus years. Oh yeah I use 10 to 1 rode of 30 ft of 1/4 inch bbb chain and twisted 1/2 nylon which I much prefer to all chain.

Now I have got one M1 - 45 lb for my Prout Quest 31’ the combination is wonderful and makes anchoring very safe.

Cool boat. Intriguing rig, with the mast so far aft. I am finding that head sails are far more efficient upwind than sails with a spar along their lead edge. So, your boat must do quite well - upwind. Cheers.

Have a 2020 M1. Bent the shank in coral or rock somehow. Mantus air shipped a new shank to Australia. That's service.

I just received my 35 lb Mantus M1 for my 13,000 power boat (30'x10'). Its the new updated version. On my home digital bath scale, it weighs in at 33.5. Now maybe my scale is off, but is 1.5 lbs worth worrying about, 95.7% of advertised weight. My scale only does 1/2 lb increments.

I have a 25lb Mantus M1 on my 20ft 3500lb with 75ft 8mm chain and 300ft 8mm nylon in case I get caught in a storm. So far its been 100% perfect.

The thing that strikes me is the bolts sticking up and the irregular lumped area where the shank joins the blade. Is there any reason to suppose that this will pick up more mud to interfere with setting?

Yes, I believe the "graveyard" of bolts sticking up will cause some seabed adhesion. That said, in the case of the 45lb. Mantus M1, it does not seem to affect the performance. I have subjected the anchor to my brutal reset testing and it performed perfectly. However, in the case of the 13 lb. Mantus M1, seabed adhesion DID cause significant performance problems (see my test video #72).

I'm slowly changing to all Mantus. I have 3 now. 2 17lb and a 8. My boat is a MacGregor 26D. (3000lb ish) So the 17lb anchors are one size bigger than I need. I've never had a Mantus anchor fail or drag. They set right away and hold! I've taken 35knot winds on the beam for 2 day with a 17 on the bow and the 8 on the stern. both 5-1 scope in mud. Boat didn't move at all! Those anchors were tough to get out!

Good to hear. Is CURRENT a problem when anchoring on both ends at the same time?

Here in the Salish Sea, eelgrass exists from the low tide line down to about 20 ft depth. However, I do not want to encourage people to anchor there, as eelgrass is sensitive. I could argue that 'testing to find the anchors that do the LEAST damage' is an overall benefit. But, I fear that this might result in my becoming a local pariah.

Does the toll bar pose a problem? Especially in rock. I have heard things can get wedged in the loop and make anchor useless.

In my testing, I have not found any problems with the rollbar on a 45lb. Mantus Anchor.

@@flygoodwin Interesting. A smaller anchor could be more prone to picking up something in the roll bar. As if you didn't have enough to do, now you need to test multiple sizes of anchor.

I do not have access to a Mantus M2 anchor for testing, so I cannot make a comparison. I will test an M2 as soon as one becomes available.

Seeing the thumbnail I was disappointed, I wanted to see the M2. :) But after seeing the M1 improvements it was worth watching. I remember Beau and Brandy on KZbin bent the tip of the old design on a rock, in swell, without a snubber, and were sent a replacement blade section for free, another benefit of being a modular design. ps. What's the tip to weight ratio of that beard Steve? :)

Thanks Peter, Unfortunately, I have not yet got my hands on an equivalent sized Rollbar Rocna or Vulcan (I tested 33lb. and 55lb. versions). I should wait until I test a 45 pounder before comparing.
