An overtightened primary chain is known to cause premature failure of the engine, transmission and primary bearings as well as other complications. Usually, the factory automatic primary chain tensioner is the culprit.

Only downside is you have to remove the primary cover to adjust it. The older HD models that had manual adjustment, were able to go through the inspection cover. Much easier. But I guess that’s what I have to sacrifice to swap it over to manual.

Yeah, would be nice if there were a cover with an access hatch.
@richardbadish69902 жыл бұрын
I believe baker makes that very thing. At least that's what I was told. It's pricey tho. I'm referring to the primary cover with inspection/service plate.

Looks like a good product and easy adjustment. Thanks 👍

so basically... the 'fix' is simply to defeat the auto tension (which was supposed to be the 'modern' solution to premature chain and sprocket wear), install a manual override and then adjust the thing every 5K. progress ???????

Great video. I think my auto adjuster keeps chain too tight. Thanks for sharing.

i like this manual adjuster... i have a stock '02 Electra glide, with the stock factory manual adjuster.. this adjuster is way better than the stock manual adjuster b/c you get an exact adjustment.. the adjuster i have uses notches or 'teeth' & the chain is either just a little too loose or a little too tight.....

Hi Great vid... I just installed a Hayden auto tensioner... I'm also running a Baker compensator... My problem is that I'm getting clanking HOT startups .. HaYden is telling me to ride it for over 500 miles to break it in... Not sure what to do.. I'm thinking manual tensioner if that doesn't work

I've had the Hayden m6 for about 800 miles. I had zero issues at first. Now I'm getting chain slap. I have the biggest spring and both shims. I'm going to manual myself.

What does a failing primary inner bearing sound like? Mine sounds like a grinding dry bearing sound until the clutch is engaged and put into gear. Thanks

I put one of these on my 08 ultra and the starter gear hit on the side of it and cut a grove in it , making a rubbing noise wjile running . they dont tell you to use spacers
@lutherbryson11776 жыл бұрын
All that is is the old style Harley chain adjuster made with weak hardware.
@Qman39464 жыл бұрын
Wait were the spacers included with the tensioner or did you have to buy them separate?

I checked out your website, I am interested in your manual primary chain tensioner for my 2007 Harley Davidson Fatboy. I checked all of your dealers, not a one has your product, other than the cut down 3/8" wrench. I did an internet search, and didn't find your product anywhere, other than your website. Is this manual tensioner no longer available?

I also cannot find this product anywhere. Is it still manufactured?

Amazing... What is it about 07 & up's??? Nobody owns a bike any older??? I can personally say there are 0 vids out here showing an 89 XL primary w/ no derby cover or it's innards and its ancient manual tensioner with the _rear_ stator/clutch basket.

Bought one for my 2014 low rider twin cam at its lowest adjustment had a hard time installing it once installed there's no room to put play in the chain very tight didn't work. I do not recommend it.

Has anyone. Hanged just the shoe on a primary tensioner not the whole tensioner on a2007 up
@DrWhoRocks3336 жыл бұрын
People are concerned that the adjuster bolt in this Twin Power tensioner lacks support, and will bend over time. Anyone had this tensioner installed for 10K or 20K miles, that can report some long-term results?
@Dinoxt126 жыл бұрын
it's like a mystery nobody knows nothing about it for $200 bucks...checked out there web site this morning and they are not even listing the adjuster 4627 ???
@obfuscated30906 жыл бұрын
No obvious reason it should and the bar holding the shoe is as thick as the later (good) Evo Sporty chain adjusters. If in doubt, buy Baker. (If not in doubt, buy Baker.) The solid engine sprocket ( compensator eliminator does sound cooler) is a very good idea and has been done before. I despise auto adjusters and replace them on personal bikes.

The question should be at this point here in 2018 is: Why in the hell is Harley Davidson still using a chain primary drive ? A gear drive system is standard in just about every other manufacturer world wide and it’s smoother and less maintenance to boot. At some point this chain primary drive system must go sooner or later, and why the continued to use this system on a new engine design is beyond many of us harley owners. They will go to a gear drive very very soon.
@48retrop6 жыл бұрын
And people continue to buy these POS year after year. Even now with all the transmission migration and sumping going on in the "New" M8 engines. It absolutely amazes me that people never learn.
@obfuscated30906 жыл бұрын
Plenty of those chain drives hold up to MUCH larger engines including 145 C.I. If you add enough horsepower, expect to bend a few parts on any machine. There's hardly any maintenance to a chain primary, and the overall HD design is actually very easy to work on. (I'm a multibrand mechanic of many years.) If it bothers you, buy something different. You have zero personal obligation to buy HD unless you work for them or own a shitload of stock.

your fatboy has a manual adjuster from the factory that is faultless.

If you can get away with adjusting it every five thousand then I envy you - my engine is so 'augmented' with over 120ftlbs and 130 bhp that I play with the bike's capabilities too much...... at about 500 miles I need to look at the tension again. I suppose I could ride 'sensibly' but that is for old farts and I am only 61 !
@buthmaciej70735 жыл бұрын
That is very bad solution. Why is not a gear not installed in the place of plastic on which the chain grinds. Design flaw on purpose, wearing parts with the company earned money.
@richardbadish69902 жыл бұрын
You should probably refrain yourself from speaking on things u have zero to no knowledge of. If I was you, I'd ask questions and hold my opinions to myself. At least until I've gained enough experience in said field. To warrant giving an educated opinion. If the primary was a dry setup. I could see your point. But since it's a wet clutch/primary. The plastic/polymer will get very Lil wear whatsoever. At least any of concern. I urge you to do a little more research on said topic. It'll help you immensely. Ijs imo
@EarlGuyton4254 жыл бұрын
NO GOOD. Each time you need to adjust that tensioner it will require removing the entire primary cover. STUPID STUPID. Use the manual adjuster with the slide that can be adjusted anytime through the 4 screw inspection plate
