Part of our Fuel Friday series, this video shows the process involved in the in-house manufacture of our motorcycle exhaust dB killers and removable baffles. This is for the Fuel Exhaust ranges as well as the Universal silencer options we manufacture to suit a variety of different outlet diameter, aftermarket motorcycle exhaust brands.
Making decibel killers is quite a lengthy process. Especially when it is an item that requires 'so much effort to make something everyone really wants to take out' as recently described by one of our customers.
There are many processes involved in the manufacture of decibel killers / removable baffles and most are shown in our video blog but for reference the tasks are as follows...
Expanding and reducing the stainless tube (for the dB killer baffle head)
Cutting and welding two stainless tube sections together using our welding rotator (to achieve the appropriate angle)
Punching a hole into the baffle head and inserting the rivnut insert
Welding the dB killer / baffle head to the stainless tube
Welding the riveted insert nut in place for additional stability
Grinding the proud section of the rivnut insert to form a flat surface
We also cut the tube to length and the appropriate angle in-house although this is not shown in the video.
We offer a range of DB killers to suit a variety of outlet diameters here - www.fuelexhausts.com/accessor...
We are UK manufacturers of aftermarket motorcycle exhausts and believe strongly in supporting British manufacture and buying in the UK.

I just got a set for my bike and am very satisfied with the build quality and customer service. The fit was spot on too. My only issue is that now the bike is almost quiet as stock. I was hoping for a Goldilocks zone. I have the straight tube ones. Is it advisable to start cutting off sections at the back end of the baffles or to start drilling holes in the lengthwise tube?
@FuelExhaustsLtd
@FuelExhaustsLtd 3 жыл бұрын
@FR240SX In order to make the sound louder, you could cut a short section off the bottom of the inner tube and try that. If still too quiet, repeat the process. You can continue to cut down until you get the appropriate noise level but just cut small sections at a time so not to go too far! Hope that helps.

Does the length of the DB killer tubes determine the overall volume of the DB killer? If the tube was longer would it make it quieter and vise versa?

@Garrett Weekly yes it does but so do many other variables. It is not as straightforward as a yes or no answer. :-)

Man, I really love your workshop ❤ I was wondering, I'd like to decat my current bike (Duke 390), it has no db killer in at the moment (Akra slipon). But past experiences with decatting bikes learned me it get's quite a lot louder. So the idea was to decat but to go use a db killer instead to mute the sound a little... Not sure if this is logical, if I undo the extra airflow created by removing the cat by adding a db killer. But after searching around a bit there's so many choice in types of db killers, what type would be a smart choice in means of good airflow without getting a too loud exhaust ?
@FuelExhaustsLtd
@FuelExhaustsLtd Жыл бұрын
Thank you. We love it too! 🙂 Removing the cat always makes the bike much louder and running it with an aftermarket exhaust adds to that. A decibel killer would take the edge off but I don't think it would make a massive difference. That said, it will vary from bike to bike and also depend on the exhaust fitted. There is no perfect combination, you would just have to buy one and try it. ;-)

@@FuelExhaustsLtd That's at least a really honest answer 🙏 And it's an Akrapovic slipon, really short. Personally I think it looks cool but it's not a really good silencer. Without db killer it's almost as loud as my ktm 250f mx bike with a HGS exhaust, the latter is quite a bit longer and seems to work a lot better. Think I'm going to try to find a better silencer for my little Duke, or just not decat ;)

Good morning Franck. Obviously the Midi 400mm is longer than the Mini 350mm by 50mm. This is for aesthetics and mainly for you to choose which you prefer. The Mini is the louder of the 2 sizes however the Midi has a deeper tone. Both sound deeper and a little louder than the OEM silencer whilst being UK road legal with the db killer fitted. There are many images here showing different options fitted to the CRF1100 models - www.fuelexhausts.com/gallery/honda/crf1100l-africa-twin-2020 Please note our exhausts are not EU Approved. Hope this helps. :-)

@Fuel Exhausts ltd ; Someone previously commented on whether these dB killers actually work, and you replied that they do, but what does this actually mean? I'm looking for a practical tried and tested way to dampen the exhaust on my custom bobber solely for the purposes of the MOT test. It's not overly loud, but it has been turned away by one MOT station due to their opinion. There is zero information on testing the sound killing effectiveness of decibel killers. I need to know by what degree these dB killers actually cut the decibels? This is really what people need to know.
@FuelExhaustsLtd
@FuelExhaustsLtd 3 жыл бұрын
@Ann6dr2om7ed4a it means what it says, they work for the type of exhausts we make them for! We manufacture these dB killers for exhausts which also use wadding in the silencer body. If you have small / short, straight through silencers with very little (or any) wadding, then they probably won't work. There isn't a set amount of decibels a dB killer will reduce noise by as it depends on lots of variables. Maybe you need to get yourself and decibel meter and carry out your own tests on your own machine. :-)

@@FuelExhaustsLtd Thanks bud, my pipes are 2" diameter slash cuts, they're fairly long "Dragon Pipes". They do have baffles somewhere in there, but they're still reasonably loud, and as such, are dependent on the discretion of the MOT tester. I'll probably be giving you a call soon! :)
