I believe that the Eru created melkor to have that unstoppable desire to change things. That is the only way real motion can be made . There was an endgame to the Eru plan. Melkor and Manwe was the two top agents to get to that endgame. This is why this lore is so good .

Sauron takes the form of a giant fist or something, maybe they didn't think they could translate it. But actually they didn't even count on getting the fall of Barad-dur properly included, but someone voluntarily made it over Christmas on his own, more or less (it was some story like that).

Manwë's greatest "flaw" was his inability to really understand evil and I think that explains a lot about some of the things the Valar did that seem terrible to us humans, who experience it regularly. I also think Manwë was limited in some ways about what he could do by Eru Ilúvatar's instructions. I can just imagine Manwë coming to a council of the Valar and telling the rest of them that Eru vetoed their plan.

Personally, i do like that Manwes one flaw is that he is not really able to understand evil. So he sees or wants to see the best in all people, and he does not punish unless people have fallen and basically doomed themselves before it. He does not even really punish Sauron and Saruman in itself by direct action, but once they fall and would want to return, he rejects their ways and leaves them be on the path they have chosen themselves. In my eyes, thats the definition that he thinks about mercy, but is not foolish that he gives mercy at all costs.

Love Manwe. I think there's some Catholic background here to Manwe being analogous to Saint Michael the Archangel and obviously Melkor to Lucifer. I heard once a tradition that while Lucifer was the greatest of the angels, Michael surprised him by being stronger than expected and thus was granted leadership of the armies of Heaven.

Regarding Melkor's escape from The Void, I believe that it will be brought about by worship of him and human sacrifice to him. I think that is what Sauron was trying to accomplish in Numenor. I would go further and say that all of Sauron's actions after Melkor's defeat were motivated by the desire to free Melkor, not by Sauron's lust for personal power. Sauron was chained to Melkor's will, and lived for the purpose of serving and reviving him. He seems to have know of, or suspected the existence of, some form of actions that could free him from his prison -- just as Babidi the Wizard freed Majin Buu in Dragon Ball.
@TheSilverOrn

There are two schools of thought for me, one is that Sauron was indeed doing that as a loyal follower, but the other is that he was being ironic and using the name Melkor as yet another alias to cover himself
@thetruemonarch9354
@thetruemonarch9354 2 жыл бұрын
I always had that same thought, that maybe these things function sort of like great old ones, the more people who know of them and focus worship on them, the more power they gain. I kind of like Sauron being in a word, pathetic, and his imitating Melkor as well as everything else is basically him going "Notice me senpai!" or in this case "Come back from the timeless void, senpai!". In keeping with needless DBZ references, it is similar to how Freeza is essentially an imitation of his father only far more chaotic.

@@paulrhome6164 Well, Christopher Tolkien originally removed The Second Prophecy of Mandos from the published version of the Silmarillion, thinking his father had abandoned the idea, but he later re-instated the prophecy on the grounds that he had mistaken his fathers intentions. The very last lines of The Fall of Gondolin re introduce the prophecy of Mandos into the canon. As for Feanor to return, I personally believe he is that stubborn and close minded, that it will take all of eternity for him to see his ways and be released from the lies of Morgoth and become again who he truly was in the beginning. Tokien didn't care much about these sizzly sounds at the end of words. Besides, it is Gand + Alf and I believe it was originally really pronounced as Alv, not as Alf. But this is really deep. Be as it may, Appendix E says it is Gandalv(similar to Nindalv or Fladriv - this has a really soft first "F"). What do you think?

The only issue i ever have in thses videos is how you pronounce Eru's name its IlluVata (if you were to pronounce it) look up how Tolkien accented those letters in the Elvish script. Also the first Silmarillion audiobook was by someone(forget his name) who was taught the pronunciations by Tolkien himself.
@joshualittle877
@joshualittle877 2 жыл бұрын
While your absolutely correct about your pronunciation the narrator your refer to Martin Shaw, while he is in my opinion one of the best narrators of such material that exists anywhere( love the guys work my personal opinion) it's doubtful he even met let alone studied under him. Shaws career began in 1967. The first Silmarillion audio book was released in 1983 and Tolkein died in 1973. Though he died in 1973 he retired completely from teaching in 1959 at least 8 years prior to that narrators career even beginning. Beyond all that the biggest piece of evidence to disprove your statement is that JRR Tolkein neither 100% wrote the Silmarillion nor did he publish it. His son Christoper assembled the Silmarillion from a pile of discombobulated notes his father left behind. JRR Tolkein himself would have rolled in his grave had he found out it was published and he would have danced like an angry cat on a hot tin roof after watching even 5 seconds of ROP. It is for that very reason the Tolkein family resisted selling the rights for so damn long. Christoper Tolkein sued New Line Cinema because he disliked the PJ films so much. I could believe, in the sense it would at least have been physically possible that Christoper Tolkein might have had involvement in picking a narrarator for the Audiobook and even training that narrator because he carried deeply about getting it right but I have never seen any evidence to support that theory.

@@joshualittle877 " he would have danced like an angry cat on a hot tin roof after watching even 5 seconds of ROP. " Probably not. Tolkien was alive to have seen the 1966 animated version of the Hobbit. It is was a lot worse then ROP.
@joshualittle877
@joshualittle877 2 жыл бұрын
@@Novusod That tells neither me nor anyone else who reads your comment anything but a misinformed opinion. Tolkein was indeed alive in 1966 and though we don't know for sure and he never that I know of made a single public comment on that 1966 animated film he probably would have hated it far less than either the PJ projects and certainly would have despised the Amazon show. We can understand what JRR Tolkein would have disliked about any of these projects from his son Christoper who was the closest collaborator to Tokein Sr. when it came to his work. His son was his sounding board and chief critic. It is Christoper and everyone else in the family except Simon Tolkein that fought against selling the rights and prevented anyone from making such a film. This was based both on his father's wishes and his own. Specifically Christoper, who has also passed away now hated the PJ films because they were turned into what he viewed as a typical Hollywood action film that pondered to the masses and lacked the depth of his father's work. As much as I did like the PJ films all six, Christoper is correct on all counts. The PJ films at least were a very honest effort by people who truly appreciated and were fans of Tolkeins work. Christoper Lee met Tolkein in a pub( as I already said) and began reading LOTR and all Tolkeins work in 1950 and has famously read it at least once a year till the year he died and narrated one of Christofers later books "The Children of Hurin". There were things in those movies that Lee and Jackson fought over and Lee had to be coaxed back to do the Hobbit. So yes Tolkein would have 200% dispised the Amazon show because it not only lacks depth but is devoid of it. This says nothing about the total character assassination of Charaters like Galadrial. Tolkein published LOTR in 1950 and began writing it in 1945 completing it in 1949. He published the Hobbit earlier in 1937. He originally wrote it as a children's story for his son. As his son would have been about 13 in 1937 it's very likely that he wrote the story many years earlier and only published it in 1937. What would a few years after his death be published as the Silmarillion he began work on in the trenches of WWI specifically during the Battle of the Somme in 1916. He had several ideas for this project but at least one was that it was sort of a framework to draw other stories from. If we can think of LOTR as a contrived mythology for the Anglo Saxons that they lacked the Silmarillion can be looked at as a Mythology within the story for its charachters. It's not strictly supposed to be a strict cannon and Tolkein would probably not liked that people seem to treat it thus. The Hobbit was not originally when Tolkein published the story and certainly not when he told it to Christopher at all a part of either of those works it had originally no connection what so ever. It is for this reason even when done by PJ in a very similar style and with some of the same characters as in LOTR it still had a different feel to it. What I'm saying is that Tolkein re wrote and edited the Hobbit to fit better with LOTR prior to publishing it in 1950 and the 1966 movie was more than likely done to preserve that earlier version of the story written strictly for young children it's also why the later Animated films by Rankin Bass were much more child oriented. The first attempt to produce a more adult version was the 1978 Ralph Bakshi version produced at the same time as the Rankin Bass films The Hobbit and Return of the King as well as the release of the Silmarillion. The story was very popular in the 1970s even before any major Hollywood production. Because of the audience it was geared toward( it's original intended audience I don't think Tokein would have disliked that 1966 Cartoon as much as you might think even if we do.

@@joshualittle877 From what I know of Tolkien is that he really hated Walt Disney and didn't want his stories to be sugar coated. He ended up selling the rights to the Hobbit which how the 1966 version ended up being made. There was also a time when the Beatles where pursuing the rights to make a live action version of LOTR. Tolkien was open to the Beatles version but the project fell through for other reasons. From these events it can be inferred that Tolkien would not have minded a pop culture version of LOTR existing which is what ROP is. To me the idea that Tolkien would have been terribly upset over ROP is not likely. If he wasn't upset over the 1966 version of the Hobbit and entertained allowing the Beatles to make a live action version of LOTR then I don't think he would have cared about ROP either.

At one point Tolkien started writing the prophecy he called the Dagor Dagorath, which was similar to Ragnarok from Norse mythology. In it, Morgoth was able to escape from the Void where the Valar had imprisoned him and trigger the final battle. Once done, the 2nd Music of the Ainur would occur and the world would be renewed.
