King Theoden is 1 of only 2 people who were compared to the majesty and bravery of Orome, or any of the Valar for that matter. The other was Fingolfin, as he rode to Angband to challenge Morgoth to single combat. It's hard to listen to the chapters describing Theoden and the Ride of the Rohirrim without being moved to tears.

The comparsion of Fingolfin riding to Angband with Orome is poetic in the Silmarillion. Fingolfin showed the wrath of the Noldor in a single combat against Morgoth.

In the LOTR books, aspects of the Valar become manifest-Manwe, when the winds change. Varda, when the stars appear. Ulmo, with the dreams/visions near water... I think the spirit of Orome is present when the Rohirrim/Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas are hunting the Orcs (holding Merry and Pippin) to the edge of Fangorn forest.

I must say, these videos focusing on the various races of Middle Earth are a lifesaver. For someone like me, who is relatively new to Tolkien's world, I get everybody mixed up all the time especially when it comes to first and second age characters and these videos are incredibly helpful. So, thanks, Matt! You're the best!

There is a video on YT of JRR Tolkien reading a portion of the Ride of the Rohirrim, including Theoden blowing the horn of Rohan with such force that it's broken asunder. Lots of people know this by heart but hearing Tolkien read it himself is just glorious.

"Arise, arise, Riders of Theoden! Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter! spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now! Ride ro Gondor!" Orome in his wrath could not have commanded better.

I suggest when you have epic ending or very sad/tragic one in your script to do a short fade away at the end so you don't jump immediately to Patreons. Sometimes it breaks the "feel" of the video's conclusion as the tone is totally different and it follows the last video scene immediately.

Me too I also love that part in Silmarillion where after the seeming defeat of the Noldor, Fingolfin charges to the Gates of Angband with wrath and with such speed like wind in through dust that those whom witnessed him mistook him as Oromë it just showed you how powerful Fingolfin was for him to be comparable to one of the most powerful Vala and even permanently wound Morgoth and put up a excellent memorable fight easily my favorite moments in Silmarillion along with The War Of Wrath, Turin vs Glaurung, Huan vs Carcharoth, Luthien’s song to Mandos.

One of my favorite Vala witu Aule and Manwë it took a minute for Oromë to grow on me what I like is his proactiveness in hunting for Morgoth’s servants and all evil creatures in Arda, one of my favorites parts in The Silmarillion is when Fingolfin witnesses the utmost defeat of the Noldor and is engulfed with despair and wrath that when he goes to charge to the Gates of Angband to challenge Morgoth 1 on 1 Combat that those whom witnessed him riding with such wrath and speed that he was mistook as Oromë and his eyes gleaming with determination like a Vala as even Morgoth appearing like a tower and clouds of thunder didn’t intimidate Fingolfin and hence how both he and Fëanor became my favorite characters and I see the relationship between my Brother and me like their’s but I digress this is about Oromë. I would like to see Eonwë my favorite Maia and Thorondor Lord of Eagles covered.

The series was brilliant in terms of setting quality but tbh it felt different to other Tolkien adaptations and not in a good way.I felt like it doesn't even try to tell the Tolkien story of the second age and is more some warped twisted abomination that has twisted character personalities from what they are and at points utterly wrecks the story Tolkien wanted to tell.I really did want the series to do well but I feel very disappointed with it as it doesn't live up to the potential and budget it had.I understand the second age is very vast to try tell in film but it really feels rushed and constrained and time line constraining was a terrible idea that has really left a sour tastes for me because it isn't a true reflection of what nations in Tolkien's universe or his story more generally

Excellent… I am very convinced that Prof. J. R. R. Tolkien knows Arabic (My mother tongue)… The name Oromë’s horse “Nahar” means in Arabic; Day… Many other names in his writings are Arabic names… Regards🇶🇦
@sophiejones3554
@sophiejones3554 Жыл бұрын
You're not entirely wrong, he studied a great variety of languages to at least a small degree. He was a professor of philology, which is called historical linguistics in non-British countries. While the character names are in languages that he constructed from scratch, he was fond of cross-linguistic puns so it is entirely possible that he did in fact know "Nahar" meant "day" in Arabic. Though this was far enough outside the area of his expertise (which was ancient Germanic languages) it's also possible he didn't know that. So far as has been published, there's no proof he chose this name for anything other than it's sound. If he did intend that meaning, it would certainly be appropriate for the character.

2:03 damn, so in Peter Jackson’s films, when the Rohirrim blow their horns before Theodin begins The Ride of the Rohirrim, it’s almost like a callback to Oromë blowing his horn. Because in the text, Theodin is compared to Oromë. Tolkien lore is so deep and so beautiful

Almost all the Valars and yes including Melkor are following the Music of the Ainur. The Ainulindalë is a weave of music that brought forth creation and the fate till the end of times. In a way, the Valars are driven by instinct only to act what was supposed to happened from the song of creation.

So the Great Horn of the House of Hurin was crafted during the reign of the last King of Gondor of the line of Anarion and was split in two right before the Return of the King. So the Horn of Gondor was the symbol of the Stewards' rule and was split in two during Denethor's reign, symbolically marking the end of the rule of stewards. Wow, Tolkien never ceases to amaze me
