One thing I kept forgetting at the start is that the clutch is kind of analogue input, like a trigger button on a gamepad. You can have variable levels of clutch while still giving it gas. It sounds obvious to anyone driving but understanding the clutch wasn't just 'off and on' was a breakthrough moment for me. I'm also on lesson 9 and have to remind myself of this at the start of every lesson. Someone needs to make a good car simulator that incorporates the clutch! Sell it as a learning tool.

As a driving instructor too this is how I teach my students as well. Keeping the gas up for power and using good clutch control to keep moving slowly, improve their views and avoid unnecessary stops. Definitely a good technique! Tend to find most of the time it’s not the clutch that causes them to stall after a while it’s the lack of gas/power. Revs/power is good! Enjoy your videos 👍

I'm all for mastering clutch control and learning keeping the car stationary on an incline using the clutch as long as everybody knows it wears out multiple parts in the clutch assembly. So learn it, just use your handbrake in real life. I learned this technique, just used it too much in traffic conditions and went through two clutch assembly replacements on two of my cars in the same year. Just the more you know. BTW, love what you're doing.

Does it still damage your clutch if you balance it with the clutch and gas?
@viksjolt1
@viksjolt1 Жыл бұрын
@@annoymous7052 in traffic conditions if you're using your clutch to stop your car from rolling back is what burns out both the clutch as well as pressure plates. Whenever the clutch is semi engaged it burns out. this is something every learner driver should learn. if you are driving an older car without hill start assist you have to do it this way and on low torque ones you have to give a little gas to prevent stalling. many starter drivers start with an older car without this feature so this is vital. generally i do it a little bit different in that i use the normal brake when waiting at an intersection, then release the clutch until just before the biting point and then quickly change between brake and accelerator to bring the revs up and get onto the biting point.

10:48 I’m glad it’s not just me who always ends up with someone parking bang opposite them whilst I’m teaching something 🤣 Great video Pin. I teach this method on the first lesson and talk about gravity & gradients. I find it really helps, especially when they get out on the main roads & we have a “ quick “ stop at uphill traffic lights. By that I mean as soon as we stop or nearly stop on Red, the lights change to Red / Amber. This can cause rushing but, if the learners have practiced like this, it gives them the confidence to handle it.

Last week I pasted the test. Guys listen here yahh everyone is saying stay calm and get rested that’s all true but you need to stay alert with everything. So the test is 2 parts, first part parking. If you mess up on the parking at all, hit a cone or make too many adjustments, it’s gg u failed already and you won’t even get to the second part. Second part is the road test they take you thru your local area and the freeway for a little bit and then parking again and ur done. Just listen to the person giving you directions and always stay alert and YOU WILL BE FINE.
@Kholaslittlespot1
@Kholaslittlespot1 Жыл бұрын
Bear in mind all test routes are different and will vary on location. There's at least 10 test routes just in the Salisbury area. The fact you said Freeway makes me think you're American, so your advice for the American test on a British driving channel may fall on deaf ears. In England, our parking exercises are usually carried out during the actual test route (I thought). 'Pull up in a safe place, reverse back two car lengths', 'park in a bay', 'reverse parallel park'. Not two separate sections like you mention. All the same, well done on your pass!

its only really bad for the car after years and years of doing it - most learners aren't going to stay in their first car for many years. By the time they've got a nice car they actually care about, they will be good enough at driving to use other techniques that are better for the car. I learned this way and it was really helpful for me, and in some situations it is the only way to do it.

@SimonBauer7
@SimonBauer7 Жыл бұрын
that highly depends on the car you drive and how you drive. if you drive agressively like rev it up higher and then shift, it will consume more fuel. if you shift early you can save fuel in exchange for less power. in terms of cars if you drive a small car without much displacement or horsepower you use less fuel (generally) and if you drive a big car with a big engine you use more (like a v8 truck).

(might differ based on a car) also... it depends on a intersection... unless you need to stop or drive at under 5km/h u shouldnt put the first gear in... also, why do british use the handbrake so much ? what we learn here is that you should only use handbrake when stopping for a longer period of time or parking on a hill

Handbrake holds the car in place so your foot can be ready to use clutch and accelerator its especially useful on hills but not needed as much elsewhere. @AIDANPEREIRA

yeah if you stay on it for long. 5-10 seconds at a junction when you can for example see that after an incoming car passes you can go in a couple seconds its fine. especially if you're not pressing the accelerator. the clutch mostly only wears when it starts heating up which at that low rpm and short duration it won't. It probably will a bit when youre learning this as you practice it continuously but thats with most things and when youre doing it IRL for few seconds it's fine

@m0n0t0n Жыл бұрын
Yes, this will most definetly wear out your clutch way faster. You should never do it for this long in your own car. If you have to wait at a uphill junction fo a longer period of time, its best to go into neutral and just keep your foot on the brakes or use the handbrake if you prefer that. This is how I learned it in Germany, but i have noticed that there are a lot of differences between how I learned stuff and how Pin teaches things. I think this mostly comes from the regulations you have to follow on a driving Test, like pulling the handbrake when you stop at a red light for example, I never did that.

Sorry for this comment, i know its your dialect and i have absolutely nothing against that, but when you say Clutch Control it truly sounds like you're saying "Clit Control" 🙈

Why are so many people going in to first while driving.

Well petrols need to because of less torque where as diesels can continue at slow speed in 2nd gear because it’s got torque

Why don't instructors teach this? I'm an instructor and I teach this early on

Right? so this is how people have been moving off so quickly in a manual instead of clutch down>first gear>break>move off. Although, I don't think it's safe at all because what if you miss the biting point? it's really for experienced drivers only IMO.

@@therealist2000 don't press the clutch too low then you're better off edging forwards a bit, stopping and pulling up your handbrake to get the biting point than rolling back into the car behind you

Most instructors including you can't drive. It's out of pure necessity that we need your car, and that's it.

Bit of a bold statement😂 Do you know how many tests they have to do to become a driving instructor? If they fail 1 they gotta resit them all, can’t just repeat that 1 test

It's not bold most of them are money grabbing ass holes and just want more money regardless of your level and ability to drive. Plus every driving instructor I had when learning was absolutely delusional. I took nothing they said to me about driving and still passed first time. Even tho they said I should take more lessons just to get more money from me. I got almost a flawless pass mark. Don't trust any of them it's a business for them that's all
