My family grew up on the Hawkesbury, we live in Sackville North. We have no power, only our generators, no home phone line, we've lost two cars & farming equipment. This flood has devastated so many people around the Hawkesbury and NSW. I'd just like to thank everyone for their well wishes and time they've spent helping us all in such a difficult situation

That's because many residents in the Hawkesbury haven't lived in the Hawkesbury during a flood, because the last one was in 1990. AV Jennings, HomeWorld, Masterton, Long Homes, Landcom all didn't start building on that farmland until after 1996. Now, the HomeWorld jingle should be "There's nothing like swimming out of your 20 year-old home, from HomeWorld!"

@tan dan NO, just stop importing people into Sydney. The population has "grown" in Sydney because the Federal Government imports them & the "greatest Olympic Games ever" looked great on the TV & foreigners all wanted to move here. Building houses on farmland, that's farmland because it was floodplain was a money-making project of GREED. Now those people who built houses on the floodplain in Western Sydney want BILLIONS of dollars spent on raising Warragamba Dam wall, while the people of Bourke, Merriwa, Cobar, Cowra, Tamworth, Lismore & Tenterfield get NOTHING!

@tan dan People move to Sydney because the governments neglect the regions. They close down train lines, they don't maintain roads, they under-fund hospitals & water infrastructure is called "praying for rain".

The NSW state gov wants to settle another 200,000 people into the flood plain. Most of these people would buy into it as it's cheaper than most of the rest of Sydney. Maybe all of the new developments should be 'Queenslander' type elevated homes (?).

@@NeVs-cb1oc It is said that during the 869 Japan earthquake, large tsunami rushed from both banks and collided in the center of the island. A stone monument was erected at the place where it was allegedly hit (altitude of about 10 m), and it was considered dangerous below that. At the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake, about 1,000 islanders evacuated to the municipal Miyato Elementary School, which is higher than the stone monument, and the tsunami swallowed most of the beach villages, but it remained in front of the stone monument.

the authorities should not allow houses to be built in a flood plain - the fact that this area is designated a flood plain means some one could be legally liable for the flood damage especially since this is not the first time this area has been flooded

@Christopher Wallbank - in some civilized countries Govts have banned all development and building properties where they will be at risk from flooding - this is not the responsibility of builders, developers or public but is totally the govt/ council responsibility which has literally allowed planning for disaster, is ridiculous - these folk with flood damaged homes etc should file class action against their council authorities for reparation of damages and negligence - at very least their homes should be relocated to safe areas at Govt cost

I come from that area. Moved away years ago. The problem is. Developers are selling propertys for housing in places where knowone should build. All for a $$$. And its putting lives at risk in times like this. Before buying a property check with locals if you can find any? Where the water goes when it floods. We have lots of droughts and then they build on flood plains. They have lost touch with how to build within the Environment. Because money means more.

We should build our society into the mountains underground. Keep the coastal areas for food production. High speed rail network to the beaches. Fires go right over and we can look after the forests, no fire build up, blend into our environment. Everyone has a awesome view and we save on heating and cooling year round. This is our own fault because we are too stupid and mindless fools. This is the most ridiculous form of development in the world. Solar power and hydro power generation along the rivers. There is no logic in this system of society. Remember that this is Australia's unique geography.

Look up historical floods before you start screaming about weather control. We learnt about this in primary school out bush, the big floods devastated the farming communities. Maybe it just wasn't important enough for you to look into. The crops will be bumper after this because the west has not seen falls like this in decades so it will be a positive. Hopefully the feed will increase to enable a good spring for herd development after the drought and bushfires but with the loss of stock from the floods look forward to expensive beef and lamb.

It's called a solar minimum, (or could even just simply be probability/chance). Research John L Casey. The elites know all about it(the solar minimum). Global warming was a lie, the carbon being the problem is a lie, but the solar minimum is real(It's the sun driving climate fluctuations, it is cyclical). The solar minimum will also increase floods, droughts and earthquakes, and other things(like decrease worldwide agriculture production), they don't know why the solar minimums do this, but looking back on the records of history there is a substantial increase on these things when the solar minimum are Happening. So the evidence(for all these increases) is not in some hypothetical data or computer modeling, but rather in the historical record for past solar minimums. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmXNnnSCpZKgj8k
