I'm Polish and it's also my favorite movie. I've watched it many times and I cried every time. In Poland we also have the Day of the Dead and our cemeteries are full of candles, but remembering our dead loved ones is rather sad and quiet. I think that your tradition is beautiful and amazing. I am Mexican as well and while I also had a Grandma that had Alzheimer's, what struck a bigger chord with me was to see literally ME on screen in a Disney movie. My name is Michael and my parents would call me Miguel sometimes. But I looked just like Miguel growing up - and what do you know....I learned to play guitar later on. The representation in this movie is so great. I am over 30 years old and love this movie and what it can mean for little Mexican/Latino children to see themselves on the big screen and how cool it is for other nationalities to get a glimpse into this culture.

One of the things I loved was Coco herself. She went thru life with her family trying to forget her Papa, seeing nothing but hate and resentment toward him, but she never forgot. She always remembered the love he showed her and the songs he sang.

My favorite details are at the end of the movie. But notice that when Hector finally walks across the bridge with the rest of them hand in hand, he's wearing shoes. They made him those to welcome him back in to the family. And his clothes are repaired and cleaner than before. Not only that, but because he's not being forgotten, he's walking straighter and less dangly like he was when he first met Miguel and Miguel was imitating his walk.

This movie literally means the world to me. Not long after my mum passed in 2018 I met my then girlfriend (now my wife) who is Mexican. This was the first movie that we watched together and it made me cry because all I could think of was my mum's passing. She was so sweet to me and cuddled me. Then she said if I had a picture of my mum so she could put it on her ofrenda so she could honour her on Día de Muertos (which was only a week away from when we watched the movie). I just melted that she would want to do that. Now that we are married, we always make up our own ofrenda every year and celebrate Día de Muertos. It's a beautiful tradition that we happily celebrate every year together and watch Coco In a way this movie brought us closer together in our early stages of our relationship and I don't know what I'd ever do without the live of my life by my side, and for all that, this movie will always have a special place in my heart.

This movie is a love letter to Mexico and its Day of the dead traditions. The movie is super respectful of them and has tons of easter eggs of Mexican culture. One of my favorite movies.

As someone of Mexican heritage, this movie always makes me cry. Especially because Coco looks and sounds just like my great grandma who passed away at 102 years old. She had the same wrinkles, hair, expressions, and smile. She was an incredible woman.

@@Freetown37 To me, it seems like once you live to be 80, then you'll live to be 100. My grandmother is 93 and only just recently had to go into assisted living. She's still perfectly lucid, but she's too physically frail to take care of her needs. Still as vibrant and full of life as she was in her prime, though.

I lost my grandma back in 2017 to Alzheimer’s. But one way that we were always able to connect with her was music. We used to sing silent night as a family, and she would sing with us. By far my favorite Pixar movie!

This movie hits harder now than it ever has for me before. Before the reverence and beauty it treats my mexican heritage with was enough to bring me to tears but now I have a new connection to it. My grandfather passed away a year ago from stomach cancer. He also had dementia at the same time. Mercifully, it did not get bad enough for him to permanently lose the ability to identify his family but we could see his memories and his mind starting to go and it was hard. My way of remembering him is by writing and making films. He is the reason I love movies in the first place. As long as I can hold a camera I can hold onto his memory. Mama Coco reminds me of my great grandmother. At the time of posting this comment she's 100 years old. Last time i visited, I poked my head into her room to check on her while my mom was chatting with her and she looked at me and gave me the most adorable smile. This woman hasn't had the easiest life and she's serious as the grave so getting that smile from her is going to be a memory that sticks long after she's gone.

Yea I lost my grandmother to Alzheimer's disease and she didn't know any of us by the time she passed. It was heartbreaking. This movie makes me think about my grandmother's who are no longer here. This movie and the Mexican culture is absolutely beautiful.

I watched this movie on a plane on the way to a funeral for my wife's amazing uncle. It made the trip easier. Great story, music...and the animation is stunning. This movie also helped me appreciate the beauty of dia de los muertos.

what gets me EVERY TIME is that throu the entire movie Hector is the only one without shoes and their entire family is shoemakers, in the end when you see them all walf hand in hand over the bridge Hector has brand new shoes T_T . signifying that he has truely been welcomed back in to the family T_T.

My grandfather was the same way with the song O Danny Boy. Even as the memory fades, music is forever. If you don't cry when Mama Coco sings and then recognizes her family members, something is wrong with you.

As a mexican I can say, this movie shows perfectly and exactly what the day of the death means for us. The first time I saw this movie, when Remember me plays, I break, at first because I was reminded of an aunt I lpved when I was five, now, early this year, my grandma passed away and watching this video in that scene, I couldn't stop but think of her. There was a lot I wanted to tell her before she passed away, she was literally the sun in my darkest times, at least I know I was her favorite grandson untill the end and when she asked me to stop taking care of her I always told her she took care of me and now was time for me to take care of her. I knew her passing was for the best, but still, each time I pass by her old room, I look at the bed like she was still there. Sorry for this being so long, I had to vent a little, I even teared up a bit writing this.

Coco is my favorite Pixar movie! My grandmother had Alzheimer's in the last few years of her life, so Miguel singing "Remember Me" to Coco to help her remember Hector really touched me. I also loved the parts that did touch on Hector and Imelda rebuilding their relationship. It definitely was realistic that she couldn't bring herself to immediately forgive him even with the reveal that he had been murdered trying to come home. It didn't change the fact that he left in the first place and she likely had to endure a lot of hardships because of it. Thankfully Hector recognized that and apologized to Imelda for it. By the time they share that kiss and dance together in the epilogue, you can probably tell that they have had plenty of time to talk things out.

The part that broke me in this movie was when Hector sang to Coco to say goodbye. I feel like there's this hidden meaning that no one takes into account, but for many years people flocked from Mexico. I myself emigrated from Mexico twice (and came back twice, I love my motherland) and fathers leaving their sons and daughters to support them from the United States is a reality that a lot of Mexicans have gone through. I remember the day, when I was 4, when I saw my father walking away from home with luggage. I asked my mom where he was going, and she said "very far away, who knows when you'll see him again". In the end, one year later when I was already 6 my mom, my sister and I risked our lives crossing the Dead Desert to see my dad again. Soooooo many Mexicans have gone through this, and I can't help but feel that that scene where Hector sings to Coco is meant to represent migration. I just haven't seen a single person comment about this, so if anyone has felt the same, please tell me, otherwise I'll finally be convinced I've gone mad.

I always cry when I see the movie even though it has a perfect ending. It’s kinda feeling like that Miguel's family really get together, both the dead and the alive. But in the real world we never know if the dead can come back until we die. How I wish the land of the dead really exists 🥺and what I can do now is to keep the belief that they are always with me as long as I remember them 🥰

This movie came out the same year that I lost my dad, who was also a musician, so this movie hit me so hard. I love it so much, though. It's really beautiful. I'm not Mexican, but I love how it presented those traditions in such a real emotional way so that we can connect to the story and the characters even if it's not our culture.

I’m Mexican and I’m so proud of our traditions. Coco is probably my favorite Pixar movie (besides to Inside Out). The movie have a lot of references to this celebration, a Mexican and world culture around the dead (for example, the dog name Dante is a reference to the book “Inferno” of the Italian writer Dante Alighieri), and all the people that saw Coco cry a lot. In fact, you can find a lot of movies about Day of the dead but this is the best one. I love your reactions Maggy! When you cry my heart break. Fact: At the end of the credits, you can see a collage with the photos of the families of the cast who passed away and since Coco, every year Pixar studios make their own ofrenda to homage for the families of all the workers of the studio.

There is a part of Mexico, Oaxaca, that makes colourful, carved wooden animal figures just like the ones in the film. I have a hare figure from there that my late wife bought me and it is a treasured possession.

Mama Coco reminded me of my Great-grandma Elsa, she passed away at almost 101 years old. She used to remember song from her childhood that her dad sung to her, and also the ones people used to sing when Italy attempted to getting rid of f4scism (1943-1945). Great grandma was attacked to the photos of her family, to the song she could remember, and when she wasn't able to remember a lot anymore she still had memories of her dad. I still have the vivid memory of us sitting togheter in the kitchen singing old songs... After seeing Coco, I wanted to put a picture of me and Granny in my room💜to feel her closer to me

This movie hits me very hard every time. My wife is from Mexico and she taught me all about dia de los muertos and we always celebrate her holidays as well as my own together and it makes our family feel so special. I cry like a little baby at the ending every time. Funny fact I just got done watching this movie yesterday and then saw a notification that you had uploaded this 27 min prior to me watching and I laughed out loud how funny the coincidence was. You wouldn't believe the research the writers and animators did. They traveled to Guanajuato, Mexico and perfectly captured the beautiful culture. Also, many of the characters are based off famous Mexican artists from the past like Pedro Infante.

When I was little like Miguel I had a Mexican grandma who was… rough around the edges, just like her. When she yells “Apologize!” it hits home. She’d be the first to hit you with the chancla, then cover you in kisses. 😂 She ended up being as old as Mama Coco and passed in 2020 from Covid at 99.

The setups and payoffs in this film are second to none. The visuals, which you mentioned, are amazing. The depth of the world is so profound and relayed through showing events in-world (like Hector being unable to cross the bridge) rather than exposition. It's just a class act movie.

Although this movie is about remembering your love ones who passed away, it reminds me about my daughter who was alienated from me when she was five in 2005 by her mother. Seeing you get emotional with this movie and it reminding me of my daughter brought warm sad tears to my eyes. (Speaking slowly): -After all these years…..all my past phone unlock codes have been her birth date. And so, I too hope to see my daughter again in this life and the next before……..she forgets me.

I can't stand the thought that Coco was shown as the skeleton of an elderly person after she died. Which means all of Miguel's family died very young, as did Hector 💀😬 But anyway, I think "Coco" is one of the best fairy tales so far. If I could suggest, another amazing Pixar animation is "Luca" (this is basically my favorite of my favorite fairy tales I have ever seen). For me it is very moving and quite emotional (Maybe because I identify with one of the characters - Alberto. We have very similar problems and very similar way of thinking) 😅 I think it is really worth watching anyway. PIXAR make some visually stunning animation ,but with heartfelt animation. I also recommend "Brave", another Pixar animation with also has a touch of magic fantasy to the story.

I used to think these animated movies were just for kids, but after seeing Cars and Cloudy With A Chance Of meatballs, I discovered they were SO MUCH BETTER than just some kids movies! Animated features might actually have better entertainment value than any live action film. The stories are better, the humor is funnier, and the emotions are real. I highly recommend anyone that has been avoiding animated movies cos they're "just kid movies" to give them a chance - doesn't matter which one, cos they're ALL AMAZING! Once you do, you'll be hooked. The only caveat is that the Monsters Inc film has some sinister implications to it, but perhaps it's better to remain clueless about that, lest it ruin the experience.

Another movie that got unfairly compared to this movie was called The Book of Life. Definitely worth checking out too. Two different stories with similar looking visual styles.

Yeah. Love that movie as well! I feel like people who haven't seen both tend to call one a ripoff of the other solely because they're both about Diá de los Muertos. But that's like saying all Christmas movies are the same because they're about Christmas. Coco and Book of Life may have some similar themes, but they're VERY different; and I love them both!

This movie was Criminally under-promoted and under-rated. So, so good. It doesn't hurt that Miguel's family and I have the same last name. :-)

I predicted the twist of Hector being the real great-great-grandfather because 1-Miguel was SO sure that it was Ernesto, and they were SO careful not to have anyone else give the great-great-grandfather's name or show a picture, even after Miguel thought he found the truth, 2- Knowing #1, there was pretty much only 1 dead main major male character, and 3-He couldn't get over the bridge, and the Rivera family made such a point of not mentioning him. Did not see the murder bit coming, but I figured Delacruz for a pompous @$$ because of the tropes about meeting your heroes, and when Frida Khalo said he "didn't do rehearsals," as a musician who has been part of a group before, as well as a few plays, I pretty much knew he was gonna be the absolute WORST, because people who are too good for rehearsals always are.

I remember I cried, too, when I watched the film by first time. COCO is a song to the soul. Especially, for people who lost loved ones.

I was fortunate enough to see a screening of this film at Pixar animation studios in Emeryville California, there was not a dry eye in the whole theater. Such a beautiful masterpiece.

I'm not crying, you're crying 😭 Such a beautiful movie, great art, great messages - easily one of Pixar's best (which is saying something, they normally knock their movies out of the park) Animated movies are fantastic, and I find some people look over them thinking they're just for kids, when really they're for everyone! The Incredibles, Monster Inc, all the Toy Story's, Tangled, Zootropolis are some great ones My personal favourite Disney movie in a long time is Moana - it captures a great blend of classic Disney, with a modern almost Pixar feel, and also informs you of other cultures in a respectful way If you want something really unique in the animated field, you have to check out Kubo and The Two Strings. Fantastic story, it'll tug at your heart strings, great designs and visual language - the majority of the film is stop motion as well, giving it a really unique look at feel
